Re: January transfer window rumours.
Surely it has to be permanent, can we even loan anyone else (r.e Obafemi).

If we have got Obafemi on loan does that mean the 4 million will go to paying for the midfielder we are after ?

Obafemi again... I think its fair to say its happening, and CT may just have to slightly edit the one he had ready in the summer maybe ?

Obafemi
Swansea Independent.
The coaching staff will breath a huge sigh of relief if the final knockings of this ridiculous saga can be brought to a conclusion today. Obafemi has been problematic since arriving at the club as Burnley will soon find out.
Let's hope he is not a pain but a good guy!

Alex James now reporting it as a loan with an option to buy of 3.5m. Quite a lot of differing in numbers with Foster and Obafemi lately.
Nixon still saying it’s a buy.

Not sure that's quite true, but many people (inc myself) did say that we needed an upgrade in midfield for the Premier League.
He's been outstanding this season, but bearing in mind how many bookings he's had, it does rather suggest that he would have struggled had we not been relegated. The difference in standard between PL and Championship has been clear to see.

Penny for Scott Twines thoughts right now. Gets his chance, scores a worldie... and then we sign two more strikers

Did we really need to sign Obafemi?

He could play in 3 or 4 positions; As a false 9, a 10, the advanced role Brownhill has been playing or even further out wide.

According to that Swans report, 'Burnley are prepared to pick up his 'Obafemi's', heavy wages'.
How much he is on, and how it compares to our wage structure, I have no idea.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think we need to remember it's 9 subs in the Premier League.
It goes without saying, some people are not going to be making the bench. If we assume that BPF will obviously be on there, and that Ekdal/Taylor are going to either be the starting defender or bench option whilst THB is injured, and that Vitinho will be on there with Roberts starting - we basically have to choose 3 starting and four subs out of:
Bastien, Brownhill, Gudmundsson, Tella, Churlinov, Benson, Zaroury, Twine, Rodriguez, Barnes, Obafemi and Foster.
Choosing seven out of that will leave some disappointed each week, but that becomes 9 if we go up. I think we're making moves to build the squad he wants for next season.
If Twine starts and does well at Ipswich, he is probably then in the box seat to start against Norwich whilst Cork is suspended. He could be well in the picture in that 10 position so I wouldn't worry.

Twine literally isnt a striker hes a left wing/ 10 hes competing with brownhill, Gudmonson and zaryoury. Obafemi has been bought to compete with Foster with Jay rod and Barnes not being up to snuff for next year

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think this is it. I would love Ash to stay, but if he can get, and wants regular football, he might just prefer to leave with his head held high. Whichever I'd leave the decision to Ash.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 9:16 amI think Barnes has had the perfect swansong of a season, and if he does leave, then having your last two goals and one of your best performances to be against Bastards isn't a bad way to do it
I think if an offer comes in for a chance of regular first team football he will take it, and good luck to him if and when that happens

While we are on parachute payments, our wages, although much reduced from last year will be quite a bit heavier than a lot of teams at this level. Well for a season or maybe even 2 at this level anyway.According to that Swans report, 'Burnley are prepared to pick up his 'Obafemi's', heavy wages'.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Rob Davies claiming its a loan...
https://planetswans.co.uk/2023/01/26/ob ... loan-deal/
I hope that doesn't include a clause saying he must play, considering he never played for the Swans.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
A loan with a view to buy makes more sense as we can assess if he is someone capable ******* into the Burnley tent, in which case we can move on this summer and look elsewhere

Re: January transfer window rumours.
The signings in this window are all in positions where we have loan players, so it looks like the Club anticipates that all of them will be recalled.
With these additions the squad is now top heavy and a clear-out is inevitable, so it’s likely that Barnes, Derv and maybe even Corky, Jay, Charlie and JBG will be off-loaded sooner or later.
I think that once promotion is achieved we will see a completely different defence, midfield and attack with no loanees involved.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Really can't imagine Chelsea seeing Maatsen as a regular starter, and if Southampton wanted Tella they would have surely recalled him by now given their league position.IWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:29 pmThe signings in this window are all in positions where we have loan players, so it looks like the Club anticipates that all of them will be recalled.
Dervisoglu won't be recalled, we'll simply return him since he will have been replaced by Foster and Obafemi.
Signing the 2 centre backs does however strengthen our hand when negotiating for Beyer and THB, since we can walk away.

Or the club accept the loans are unlikely to turn into permanent moves in the summer. Not seen any suggestions of recalls anywhere.IWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:29 pmThe signings in this window are all in positions where we have loan players, so it looks like the Club anticipates that all of them will be recalled.

Maybe we already know the prices to turn these loans into permanents and don't fancy paying that, (Or would rather wait until we are actually promoted 1st?)RicardoMontalban wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:37 pmOr the club accept the loans are unlikely to turn into permanent moves in the summer. Re: January transfer window rumours.
100% a no brainer. Almost no risk in signing him at that price. If he doesn't perform or becomes surplus to requirements we can almost certainly make the money back on him. Swans wanted £10M in summer.

Search the terms “resign cork” and “release cork” from June and you will see it was at best 60/40 to retain or replace him for this season.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:56 pmNot sure that's quite true, but many people (inc myself) did say that we needed an upgrade in midfield for the Premier League.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Not sure that that particularly contradicts what I wrote. Indeed I admitted to having reservations myself. Many thought that we should be seeking out a younger version to build for the future.
What we have discovered is that he is still a very good player at Championship level but the gulf between the 2 divisions is getting wider.
I also happen to believe that he should have played more games last season.

That’s not correct. They 100% do get given to you even if you go up. It’s highly likely we’ve already had a large portion of them paid.Selby Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 2:16 pmParachute payments don’t kick in for the first year and aren’t given to you at all if you go back up

To help you, here is a link to Fulham’s accounts:
https://twitter.com/swissramble/status/ ... l9rXMK3TOw
Check the 2020 (Championship) column and then ‘Central Awards’ which reads 42.5m, this was their year 1 parachute payment.
They got promoted that season.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
The club would have really struggled without its circa £44m 'parachute payment' (yes it is a nick name but still generally understood and used) this season - considering MSD will take around £3.6m interest payments in the current financial year on top of the £32.2m+ capital reduction last summer (not forgetting the early repayment penalty that went with that of anything between £3m - £7m given it was to make up for the lost interest payments between then and December 2025)AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 2:18 pmLaugh all you want but you need to get your facts right before you laugh
