Sander Berge
Fulham in talks with Sheff Utd for a £20m deal plus add ons for Sander Berge, will be a big blow for Sheff Utd to lose him.

Their bad luck continues. Think without the injuries and financial issues they'd have walked this league but as it is I can't see anyone stopping us from becoming championes

Good news for us, he’s their best player by a country mile.
Re: Sander Berge
Tell that to Sheffield fans and they’ll completely disagree. In fact they think Doyle and McAtee (on loan from City) have been better this season. Ndiaye is their best player.ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 2:45 pmGood news for us, he’s their best player by a country mile.

Re: Sander Berge
A decent player but comments about how good Sheffield United would be without injuries is pure nonsense
The gulf in class between us is huge as we have some seriously talented players .Blades have a team of journeymen.

I don’t watch them every week but whenever I’ve seen him play he looks a level above the Championship, it’d be a blow to lose him but they need the cash apparently.

Re: Sander Berge
Berge & Ndiaye their best players.
No coincidence that since Berge came back from injury they have been winning nearly every game.
Berge cost around £25m though so should be standing out in this league. He was previous to the injury linked with a couple of really big clubs - sure Arsenal was one of them.
Sheff United have some horrendous injuries though - if they lose Berge too then that’s a pretty big reliance on Ndiaye. We have far better options than them at them moment and we are not reliant on 1 or 2 players.
If / when Sheff United go up they have a massive rebuild on. I hope they do actually as that’s one team I’m pretty confident we will do better than.

And there has been big interest too in Ndiaye but he’s said he’s not going to leave until the end of the season.

Lucky for them that they'd walked the league in October otherwise this would be a significant loss for them.

Some player is SB. I'll be very happy to see him leave.
I agree with Big VK, I think we will finish above them next year, if we both do go up.

That’ll be a big blow for them, but make no mistake, they’re still a very good side.
This journeyman and workmanlike tag they’re picking up from some on here is inaccurate and arrogant.

The ”team of journeymen”, so called, are fairing better than us against lower league opposition. Also outclassed us 5-2.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 2:47 pmThe gulf in class between us is huge as we have some seriously talented players .Blades have a team of journeymen.

Mad how many football fans have no idea what a journeyman is.
Re: Sander Berge
According to Nixon, Sheff Utd want Lewis O'Brien (ex Hudds) from Forest as Berge's replacement.

Re: Sander Berge
No.
As I understand it, one of the reasons that they are under a transfer embargo is that they have failed to pay for him.
That - I think however- was indeed something like the fee agreed.

Guessing i’m watching the same games as most people on this board and the the same as the manager of the team in 7th place in premier league who wants to fork out £20m on him.
Each to his own and all that though.

Blades consensus appears to be that he has ability but is a bit of a shirker who hasn't produced his best this season on a regular basis.

1. They drew.
2. The team they played aren't even in the Football League, whereas Ipswich are aiming for promotion to the Championship.
Hardly fairing better!

Re: Sander Berge
We have a great team of watchable entertainers compared with us Sheffield United are miles away from our high standards
But they keep digging out results and will probably end up as runners up
Style wise we are superior and our failure to beat them won't be repeated.

We were very keen on Berge three years ago before S Utd nipped in. Couldn't get the finance together in the end.

Up to Forest I guess - not done until it's done. Just reporting what Nixon said re Sheff Utd, Berge & O'Brien.claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 8:33 pmO'Brien is already off to West Brom isn't he?
I saw that the other day on Sky Sports as I thought he'd be a good signing here with out limited CM options.
Re: Sander Berge
It looks like Sheff Utd are trying to sell him, not teams coming in for him. I think they are struggling to get the amount they want but probably need to sell him to get out of the embargo.

Again, he is someone that if he is available, should be on our radar
Clearly they need to sell to get out of the embargo, but he's probably out of our price range unfortunately

I've seen Sheffield United on TV with and without Berge and regardless they are still effective and have a number of real quality players.

Re: Sander Berge
I’ll be Very happy to not have him lining up against us at Turf Moor. Excellent player.
Re: Sander Berge
Comment about him from the Blades board
‘And anyone who thinks we will miss Berge or that todays outcome is because he is off to Fulham needs their bumps felt. Good luck to the lad. I just can't see a Sander Berge hole in their squad for a languid, inconsistent crock who adds little to a team performance than a few lighter moments in the odd game. Fulham must have cash falling out of their arseholes.’

Re: Sander Berge
Quite. I don't know where this idea we're head and shoulders better than them comes from. We're averaging just 0.18 more points per game and the only time we met, they absolutely walloped us.
Berge would be an amazing addition to our side and is Premier League ready but there's no way we're signing him for £20m, or paying his wages which are currently taking Sheff Utd right to the brink financially.

Re: Sander Berge
The issue here is that the Blades shouldn’t have signed Berge in the first place.
He was too expensive and now they will make a loss on him.
He helped keep them up in his first 5 months. After that they had a relegation and then a failure to go up. Maybe this season his contribution again will be decisive, but maybe not?
Our way is the best way - best balance of volume and price, giving many options to possibly sell high in the future. A single player costing €22m cannot make enough of a difference.

A false score. We totally outplayed them first half and led at HT. The Thursday night game got into our legs second half and they won. Don’t for one second think it was our best against their best it just wasn’t. Sky screwing the league table again.

We played on Wednesday 2nd, beating Rotherham 3-2. They played on Tuesday winning 1-0 at Bristol City. The Sheff Utd match was Saturday 1200. We were 2-1 up at half time but I never felt we were comfortable. They just blew us away second half and we had no answer. VK put it down to energy levels and that maybe so but the fact is we were well beaten over 90 minutes.
