Battle to finish our top scorer
4 now tied on 9 .
Benson, Rodriguez, Tella, Zaroury.
Benson has the edge with one more assist than Zaroury, however Zaroury has played a lot less minutes.
A little in house competition never hurts, just so long as the team ethic remains which I'm sure it will.

Hopefully our top scorer this season isn't even a Claret yet!

Well we now have 16 different names on the score sheet ... Exciting times
Looks like at least 4 names in double figures

Yes for all the pre-season talk of us needing a 20 goal striker we're coasting to promotion by spreading goals throughout the squad.

Re: Battle to finish our top scorer
Zaroury is the most clinical finisher. Two footed and rarely squanders a chance. He could play up front as an out-and-out striker.

Understandable though as that's normally what carries teams to promotion.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:15 pmWas going to make a similar point, the demands for a 20goal a season striker were amusing at the time.

Probably having 4 goal scorers in double figures ... this negates the requirement for a 20+ goal scorer ...GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:15 pmWas going to make a similar point, the demands for a 20goal a season striker were amusing at the time.
Yet the way we are going we could have 2 or 3 20+ goal scorers

Only seen a few minutes of him, but not sure he is going to cut it at this level.

I don't think people ignored it, they were just sceptical about his claims.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:31 pmKompany had made a point about spreading the goals around though, which people ignored

The calls for a reasonably prolific striker were merited, at the time they were being made.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:15 pmWas going to make a similar point, the demands for a 20goal a season striker were amusing at the time.
The only way it would have been amusing is if you’d either known the quality that we were bringing in (I’d argue most, if not all, had no idea) or had a crystal ball.

I’ve been proven wrong - I certainly wanted someone that I thought could bang in the goals.

He doesn't look up to speed yet but definitely looks to have something about him, I don't think we'll see the best of him for a few months but I think he'll be a big player for usLowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:26 pmOnly seen a few minutes of him, but not sure he is going to cut it at this level.

Nothing wrong whatsoever with some supporters wanting a striker who could score 20+ goals.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:15 pmWas going to make a similar point, the demands for a 20goal a season striker were amusing at the time.

Think in our last promotion season, Fulham had Ross McCormack finish the season with 21 league goals and Dembele bagged 15…GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:15 pmWas going to make a similar point, the demands for a 20goal a season striker were amusing at the time.
… they finished 20th
Now if we were playing a more direct system like we did under Dyche then fair enough but it’s chalk and cheese; for example in Dyche’s system our midfielders/wide men rarely bagged
Re: Battle to finish our top scorer
He looks quicker in his videos but I didn't see any of his goals one-on-one. More of a player who notches from inside the box when someone like Benson or Zaroury has cut in.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:26 pmOnly seen a few minutes of him, but not sure he is going to cut it at this level.

Re: Battle to finish our top scorer
This is one of the keys to our success. We are a mirror image (on a smaller scale) of City. They spread the goals around and when you can do that the opposition quite simply don’t know who to mark. The added bonus is you’re not relying on one man to score your goals thus being a disaster if said striker gets injured/ suspended/loses form. A regular scoring striker would now simply be a luxury.

Way too early for that. Only once did he get the ball other than with his back to goal today, and unsurprisingly given his background and the league he's come from, that's an area where he can improve. Let's see how he gets on when we can get him facing the other goal on the front foot.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:26 pmOnly seen a few minutes of him, but not sure he is going to cut it at this level.

There were a few occasions when he was well placed to receive a ball to run on to, but not picked out.

Re: Battle to finish our top scorer
A few years ago I posted that Penny our new keeper should go back to Peru at about 60 minutes into our game at Sheff Weds.
Think he played less than 90 minutes after the post.
Not convinced about Lyle, happy to be wrong .
Time will tell but looks a little to slow and not sharp enough.

Football is about opinions, and message boards are just for that.
It’s an opinion, in the exact opposite of my opinion of Ekdal who was brilliant.

Re: Battle to finish our top scorer
We’re averaging 2 goals/game, so with 17 more games to go it’s reasonable to expect another 34 goals.
With Ekdal’s effort we now have 17 different scorers and every one of today’s starting (outfield) lineup has registered. So I’m at a loss to think of a top scorer, but I don’t really care - I’m just enjoying the ride.
Exciting times - UTC

Looked bright with a good touch against Ipswich, barely got a ball into him today to judge so I’m amazed anyone could reach a conclusion one way or the other.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:54 pmA few years ago I posted that Penny our new keeper should go back to Peru at about 60 minutes into our game at Sheff Weds.

If you’d told me back in august/July that we’d still have nobody in our squad who’s netted double figures by February I’d have been very worried

Re: Battle to finish our top scorer
I find the seeming want to write a new signing off almost immediately utterly inexplicable. No doubt you ‘called’ Penny early - you probably said the same about Muric, Benson etc. throw enough ****, some sticks. Try supporting the players, especially brand new signings, rather than waiting for a **** up.

They have obviously seen something in Foster or they wouldn't have spent what they did on him. I think Bellamy might have some idea to what makes a good centre forward.

City did spread it around for a couple of seasons but that seemed mostly out of necessity. Before he got injury problems they had Aguero - and Sterling to some extent. This season they've got Haaland.houseboy wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 5:45 pmThis is one of the keys to our success. We are a mirror image (on a smaller scale) of City.
