the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
The contract on my season ticket clearly stipulates that I am paying to watch 90 mins of football per game - no more, no less (unless someone can show me a clause that states otherwise, I already know there is no Sanity Claus).
Therefore I am at the vomitory ready for departure at 89 mins 59 secs. If you wish to break the terms of your contract then I hope you can live with yourself, but my conscience is clear.

I saw a guy on crutches struggling down the stairs leaving today in the 88th minute. Shameful, absolute disgrace, he should be ashamed of himself!

Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
I agree. I have a solution for all these people who leave early with pathetic excuse like “I have a sore shoulder” or “I have kids with me” or “I don’t like the rush”. I could go on, so I have put it in numerical order to simplify things. And believe me it really is so simple.
1. Wait until the referee blows the final whistle. This could be 5-10 minutes later than you anticipated. Don’t leave your seat or try and sneak out before that. The benefits of this are that you will see all the game and not need to leave the ground early and then try to find a pathetic excuse.
2. Sit down after the final whistle for 5-10 minutes and take in the ambience and relax. Even applaud the team off if you like. Let most of the crowd leave the stadium. It might take 10 minutes. It won’t make that much difference to your journey. I appreciate you might have work in the morning, or you might have plans that night but it won’t matter that much and you get to see all the match and celebrate with all the proper fans and team.
3. Once it is safe for you to leave your seats make your way to the exits. The stewards will assist if you are not sure, still feel unsafe or are still a little bit wary of the dangers you face.
4. Hopefully you make you way out of the ground safely and there are no issues with your kids or illnesses. Now that most of the crowd as been dispersed you should be ok, safe and not face any issues.
5. You then have no need to make any more pathetic excuses on why you were leaving early whilst we were getting beat.
6. Finally, repeat again at the next home game.

Totally agree with everything you say but I have to add that I saw someone leave once after 89 mins (2001 I think it was) when we were winning 3-0, I booted him up the arse on the way past and he muttered something pathetic like "late for my mum's funeral", we went on to win that game 3-0!pushpinpussy wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 4:28 pm

I didn’t. A couple left but the massive majority stayed & clapped/sung them off.
And I got stuck in terrible traffic as a result

Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
There can be no excuse other than prioritising traffic delays to applauding your team efforts when certain supporters leave on the 85th minute consistently no matter the time of the kick off. I am on row nu5 and I see the same 2 blokes leave in the 85th minute no matter what time we kicked off. Frustrating is not the word

Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
I took my late son to watch Preston at the Turf. We were expected to win and soon went 1-0 up. Preston hit back and kept on and they got to 1-3 up after about 65 mins. I said to Ryan "lets go because I can't stand the thought of walking past these Tw**s having got drubbed". He said "lets stay until 75 mins, and if nothing changes we can go and beat the traffic". Shortly after they got a guy booked for time wasting and sent off for a second yellow. As you know, we won 4-3 and, I have to say, it was the best game I've ever seen. Ironically, staying to the end got my car locked in the car stack and I had to get the FiL to pick us up and then borrow his car as I was flying early next day. It turned into a right old dick-dance, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Stay or go, it's a personal choice.

Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
Even VK noticed it yesterday as per the quote in Burnley Express.
“One thing in England is that everyone has got to try and beat the traffic so the stadium can empty a little bit early. It's a very UK thing. You go to the cinema and somebody has got to beat traffic”.
"To see the stadium full from the first minute to the last minute, that's what I love. I enjoyed it afterwards with the supporters as well which, to me, added to the occasion!
Was good to see the majority of people stay and applaud the team off for their efforts. Please try and do it more often, that’s all I’m saying, especially if we are losing and not playing well. Thats when the team really need you.

Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
I just like to say well done to the fans who stayed for the full 96 minutes last night. I was with my young son and it was a cold and frustrating night but we stayed right until the end to support and push the team on. He was crying with joy when Burnley scored in the last minute and that’s one of the reasons we don’t leave early because you just never know with this team what is going to happen. However, it was very noticeable again that people were leaving a lot earlier than usual. Hope you got home early and safe though even if you did miss the goal.

Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
A few left around me. Have to say I did think of them as we were celebrating, knowing they’d have just been walking outside the ground. Penny for their thoughts hearing the huge roar and emotion of a last minute winner, not to mention missing a new signings first goal for the club.
Like VK says above, I don’t understand the whole traffic point and I like to clap the lads off at the end, but each to their own as they say.

What is annoying though is when they stand by the exits blocking the view. And the stewards do nothing to move them on. If you’re going - go.

You do what you need to especially with kids and rubbish public transport - I'm guessing you heard the turf moor roar as you left which is always good for keeping tabs!

I always stay until the end, but getting home at 12.30am with an exhausted 5 year old I can understand why some choose to nip off early. And to be honest, I would say it's probably worth doing so just to upset the saddos who care so much about when people choose to leave an event.

If you have a 250 mile drive home then leaving a minute or two early can save you half an hour. Obviously best done when we’re 3-0 up

Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
I like to leave around the 70th minute mark these days. Takes me a couple of minutes to squeeze past all the moaning codgers to get to the stair aisle (some of the more uncouth start shouting “sit down” at this point), a few minutes to empty the old bladder in the bogs (all that watered down ale), and then around 10 mins to walk back to the Beamer (always take a risk parking it in Burnley but I’d have to leave on the 40 minute mark if I parked in Barrowford).
I always like to be the first one at the Lyndhurst Road traffic lights to ensure a swift exit. Radio Lancashire keeps me updated if there is anything I need to know. I’m then home way before anyone else and I’m fresh enough the next morning get stuck in to the demanding business of a solicitor.

Re: the fans who were leaving after 89 minutes
I left about 3 minutes early, mainly because I felt like $hit and didn't want to be stuck in traffic for too long, like was on Saturday.
It's also now got to be a superstitious thing for me, I've left before 90 minutes three times and we've scored when I've left every time.
You can all thank me later.
