Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
People on there saying they won’t win another game all season. And I thought we were the masters of pessimistic over reacting.
Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
I thought Sheffield United were too far ahead to be caught.

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
Bizarre they are still 4 points clear of Boro with a game in hand, however their recent form is pretty poor.
Just shows how hard it is to maintain form week in week out in this league, and it's telling that Burnley have only lost 2, while Sheff Utd have lost 7 now.

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
These last few weeks i didnt think anyone would catch us or Blades.
You could be right about Boro chasing Sheff down.
On a real run at the mo
Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
Strange comment from their fans considering one nameless poster on here claimed they’d already run away with the league.
In all seriousness though, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they finished 3rd.

If Sheffield United can keep picking up a steady amount of points they are putting the pressure on Middlesbrough to keep this unbelievable run going. Just winning the game in hand puts the gap back to seven points.
Still massively in their favour.

True, but that’s back to back defeats and their manager had a meltdown the other night and they were getting bookings for fun late on today. The pressure is on, can they handle it?

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
You are right but mentally I think they are struggling. A friend of mine said 3 weeks ago how he was surprised how the Blades have kept in almost touching distance. They've been chasing us and keeping just in touch but I think thats been them believing ww could be caughtbif we lostvto them at home. In the 4 games up to Tuesday they dropped a bit further behind and ee stayed resolute. That gap starts to get too big and the belief dies a bit.
Now they've let 2 slip with no points and we are effectively gone. They're now the 2nd runner watching 1st kick on away and have to fafe 3rd coming up behind fast
Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
Are you speaking in jest??
They got beat 3 - 1at home to Boro on wednesday night!
Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
I have watched Sheff Utd quite a lot this season and they haven't actually been playing well. They have played the bottom half teams and have struggled against quite a few of them. Now they are playing top half teams who are finishing their chances they are struggling.

Boro have an incredible run of games for the next 5 or so, could easily pick up maximum points

West Brom away next? That’s a tricky one.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 5:29 pmBoro have an incredible run of games for the next 5 or so, could easily pick up maximum points

These runs don’t last forever. Sheff Utd are having a blip, but so will Boro and ourselves. Top two are still big favourites.

Because of their style (normal), they rely on overpowering their opponents. Sometimes they will come unstuck.
Our style, one of control and movement, is more consistent.
Middlesbrough look controlled. Luton/Millwall and the like are in the city mould. That's why they all depend on momentum to outdo their opponents on the day. Championship very fine margins!

He was replying to the quote about Boro's next five games.
Boro's next game is away at West Brom.

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
Boro are flying and could catch them
The problem United will have is that being top two all season if they find themselves in the play-offs it will come hard. There's likely to be at least one team in there who sneak in late on a good run with momentum
From what I've seen of United they have a way of playing that is usually very effective - but they don't have the squad depth to adapt if plan A doesn't work - if they find themselves up against the likes of Watford, Luton and Millwall in the play-offs there are no guarantees

Looking at things in a logical manner. Sheffield United prior to this mini blip had played 14, won 11, drawn 2 and lost 1. They lose two games and all of a sudden they won't pick up another point.
Who would they rather be, the team with a four point cushion and a game in hand away at a team completely out of form or the ones chasing? I know where I'd rather be.

I think you make a good point - I just don't see Vincent or similarly Carrick allowing themselves to get drawn in to the same extent. The passion is great to see but when the pressure is on there's a lot to be said for professional detachment

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
Strange team. They didn’t start playing today until they went behind, then looked decent, equalised, then went into their shell again. I thought today was very similar to their performance at QPR. They were second best until the 75th minute then sweat blood to get an 89th minute equaliser.
I still think they’ll sneak in and leave Boro in the lottery.

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
Would be such a shame if Boro passed them and Sheff Utd lost 1-0 in the play off final (again) Have any of the likely play off teams got a player called Elliot??

Can't have Boro finishing 2nd, the EFL will only take the league trophy there again...

Points on the board are what matter. Boro are doing well (though they were garbage when they came to the turf) but they’ve still a massive amount to do.

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
How they play now is a very different style from that adopted under Wilder in their first season back in the PL
The game has moved on - if they are still under similar financial constraints trying to recreate Pulis-era Stoke in the top tier is unlikely to end well

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
They are capable of having a bad run. They were top earlier in the season then drew 3 and lost 3 of their next six.
Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
I watched something on youtube with Wilder and he was saying Heckingbottom was taken on to learn their way of playing so he could hopefully take over after Wilder. He still uses the overlapping defenders from what I have read on their board.EarbyClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 7:28 pmHow they play now is a very different style from that adopted under Wilder in their first season back in the PL

Re: Sheff Utd forum in total meltdown
I would prefer Sheff Utd to come up auto in 2nd place. Boro are another side with a false rivalry with us. Always kick off when they come to Burnley. However Sheff's run is minging. Boro are flying, momentum with them. They will finish second.
