I would say that since Grezza started taking penalties, up until Barnes' on saturday, our percentage success rate would be the best in the country over that time period.

*edit, I got bored so had a look at the stats

year. | scored-missed | success rate

05/06 - 4-0 100%
06/07 -1-0 100%
07/08 - 4-0 100%
O8/09 - 10-0 100%
09/10 - 7-0 100%
10/11/ 9 -3 75%
11/12 6-1 85.7%

12/13 - 6-0 100%
13-14 - 5-1 83.3%
14-15 1-2 33.3%

15-16 7-1 87.5%
16-17 6-0 100%
17-18 1-0 100%
18-19 5-0 100%
19-20 3-0 100%
20-21 4-0 100%
21-22 1-1 50%
22-23 3-0 100%

91 penalties

9 missed

90.1 % success rate on average

12 seasons out of the last 18 we have scored all of our penalties

Cornet is the only player to miss a penalty for Burnley in the last 7 seasons

Notably the two figures below 60% we got relegated both times.

I don't think there is a better record over this time period.

Indeed. He drilled them, every time. I think he missed away at West Brom?

Apart from Man City who seem to be shocking at pens.

I bet no team has missed more than they have scored in a season (after scoring at least one)

Was it Arfield away at Palace and Taylor home against Leicester for us that gave us this unwanted fate?

He saved one too, didn't he? Went in goal and tipped it onto the post? Think Wayne Russell had been sent off.

I would say that Grezza is being economical with the truth there, he always used a straight run up, but then either hit it with his instep, outside of his foot or straight down the middle, impossible to read.
I’ve posted many times about a penalty takers standing foot pointing where they will shoot. With Grezzas straight run up this went out the window. Such a slight adjustment of the foot that was unreadable.

Grezza was the only player we've had where I've had absolute confidence he will score.

I'm sure I saw in an interview or podcast that he said the situation in the game or time of the penalty could also dictate where he would put the ball. For instance, in the 85th minute with the game tied he'd tend to put it down the middle as it'd take a brave keeper not to pick a side at that moment in time. Also think the straight run up and toe-bung like kick didn't give much keepers to go off in guessing where he was putting it.

A game which i think featured a very young Rio Ferdinand on loan from West Ham.

That was the season after (1996/97) when Ferdinand played.

Apparently missed one against Huddersfield 30 years ago when Warnock was manager. 1-1 draw of which I have no memory at all.
He did score a penalty later in the game.

He did. 1-1 draw and first home points we dropped in 93/94.

Did Eyres miss a penalty at home to Preston early in season when Waddle was manager? Game finished 1-1 and Nogan scored for Preston.

In fact looking at the list he also missed against Stockport, Peterborough, Swansea, WBA and Watford as well as the Huddersfield and Preston games mentioned.

Yes, you're right. Arfield's penalty at Palace was close to the end. Not sure who else was on the pitch who would also have been in the frame for taking one. Ings perhaps?

The WBA one was at the Hawthorns & it hit keeper in his face and bounced wide. West Brom were doing ground up & we were in a tiny section in corner of ground.

Vague memory Stockport miss was in one of those Auto Windscreen shield games.

Ings had pulled his hamstring & gone off injured.

Team at the time was: Heaton; Trippier, Duff, Shackell, Mee; Arfield, Marney, Jones, Boyd; Jutkiewicz, Sordell

Could have been Tripps or Jones instead I reckon, but looking at the strikers it could have been a lot worse than Arfield

As good as Grezza was it's got to be Noble for me all day long.
