Weather forecast not great. I’m just on my way to the airport. Will be there for the afternoon session. But more likely tomorrow.

Green track by the rumours so whoever wins the toss might well choose to bowl.

Quite possibly one of the greenest pitches I've seen. They might as well be playing on the outfield.
Obviously designed like that by New Zealand. They don't want to be bazballed again.

Shame for Pope he looked in good touch. Everyone else has struggled.

On this wicket I think this game is done in 3 days. Anderson and Broad are going to love it as much as the New Zealand bowlers are.

Re: NZ v Eng 2nd test 9.15 start
Root and Brook doing well after the 3 early wickets, 50 up at least, and despite the lively pitch England determined to still play their shots, probably the right approach really as if you just attempt to survive you'll likely get a ball with your name on it sooner or later.
Re: NZ v Eng 2nd test 9.15 start
You lot back home are missing something special. Time difference working in my favour this time, fun to watch.

I had the pleasure of watching Root & Brook Marmalize the NZ attack.
Brook looks like a special player.
ESPN+ now shows Cricket!......it's been years since i've seen anything but highlights.
NZ know they're toast already.

Incredible from England again. What an exciting talent Brook is. Buzzing Root is back at it too.

If Brook scores 93 in the rest of this innings and his next two he will be the fastest batsman to 1000 runs in Test history. What a player we have on our hands here.

Brook is making scoring Test match centuries away from home look easy.
He's already got 4 in 5 tests, equalling Mike Gatting's entire career record for centuries away.
He's so good we might even get a few yorkies coming back on and talking about the cricket.

And who would have thought the 2 darlings of English cricket would have been born just 20 miles away from each other.
Jimmy in Burnley and Harry Brook in Keighley.

Re: NZ v Eng 2nd test 9.15 start
Went to bed at 73-3 with England slowly recovering from the 3 quick wickets, I never expected to wake up to see us 315-3, with centuries for Brook and Root.
Brook is making test cricket look ridiculously easy, and Root follows up his 50 in the 1st test with his 1st ton in a while..
So much for it being a bowler friendly track, or maybe it still is and this pair have just batted brilliantly.

Re: NZ v Eng 2nd test 9.15 start
Same here as Tiger76.
Went to bed a bit later at c 100-3 with Brook already looking good but Root just hanging in there. I always like to make a prediction of the score Ill find on wakening. Assuming maybe 20 overs lost for weather, I went for c 265 for 6.
Great to see 315/3 in only 65 overs and two not-out tons.
I'll watch the first session tonight (21.30 here, 10.30 there start I believe) - hopefully a continuing onslaught but it's a new day and bowlers may get joy again in the mid morning conditions. Stage is set for a very decent first innings score having been put in though.
Well done to Harry Brook and also good to see JR back in some form.

Re: NZ v Eng 2nd test 9.15 start
Completely different cricket type of course but before the men's test in NZ recommences, England women are in action in the T20 WC being played in South Africa this afternoon. They're playing South Africa for the right to play Australia in the final (Oz having narrowly beaten India in yesterday's semi).
Good luck to them although Australia will be favourites in Sunday's final whoever gets through today.
I must confess, as a very longtime county/test cricket watcher, I also enjoy watching women's cricket nowadays.

Coming in at 21/3 on a green top with swing and seam, Brook played one the finest test innings ever. Hope he can pick up today where he left off when the rain came. Pity he is a Yorkie but being from Keighley he could be a Claret ? But no doubt he will support Dirty Leeds ( well until end of this season)

Watching yesterday, i noticed he was swinging and missing at bouncers.....he was quite lucky not to glove one or two, otherwise he looks an absolute talent.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 7:43 amBrook is making scoring Test match centuries away from home look easy.

The straight sixes back over the bowlers head being a highlight.

I only watched the first session but he obviously wants to put as much pressure back on the bowler as possible.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 7:33 pmWatching yesterday, i noticed he was swinging and missing at bouncers.....he was quite lucky not to glove one or two, otherwise he looks an absolute talent.

If you can pull that off then you get far more freebies off the bowler.

They will declare as soon as one of these gets out (providing Root has his 150).RammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 10:19 pmNot quite going to plan this morning.

Then a good chance NZ get bowled out for less than 150.

Curious innings, Brook and Root both hitting 150's, yet nobody else making 30.
Now let's see what Jimmy & co can produce with the ball.
