Re: Weghorst
United fans like him, apart from his shooting, they love how much work he puts in and it's vital to how they're playing at the moment. He isn't scoring goals but he doesn't need to be. Weird considering he had a good record in Germany but he seems to fire straight at the keeper with everything just now.
Can't see him wanting to play for us after he's won stuff with United and I think they'll want to keep him anyway as a squad man

Re: Weghorst
We can agree on hoping they sign him and the reasoning why, for sure. I think he'll end up elsewhere but it just wont be at Old Trafford.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 12:10 pmBeing serious for a sec Darthlaw, I hope WW is signed by United because it gets him off our wage books
But if his attitude is right, and he's happy to come back here under VK and playing our style, then I'm more than happy to see him back here next season where I'll think he brings all the attributes he is currently showing for United
Win/win for us
I'm not sure about wanting him back. His reasons for leaving were sound, so I don't have an issue there, but I still have nightmares about those chances he missed for us (particularly that criminal 1 on 1 against Liverpool). I've also had a look at the goals he scored for Besiktas which we're similar to Brereton Diaz in terms of stuffiness, which don't inspire me with confidence he'd get 5 goals in our side all season.
Ultimately as long as he's elsewhere and we have brass to spend on his replacement, I'm happy.
Re: Weghorst
But surely he's a better option than Barnes as he's technically far better.Darthlaw wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 12:25 pmWe can agree on hoping they sign him and the reasoning why, for sure. I think he'll end up elsewhere but it just wont be at Old Trafford.

Re: Weghorst
Aside from what Connor Roberts said to him on the pitch is there any evidence of him having a bad attitude whilst at Burnley?

Re: Weghorst
I rate Weghorst and think he has offered a lot more to Man Utd than some people on here give credit for. I also think he would fit perfectly into our system and is a step up from both Jay and Barnes.
That said we ain't getting any money for either Jay or Barnes so I would much rather VK get £10-15m to spend for Weghorst and we keep one of the other two as 4th choice back up as opposed to keeping Weghorst (plus one of Jay or Barnes) and getting no money
Thats not a dig at Weghorst but I just think VK could do better with the money

Re: Weghorst
I have never rated him. For such a tall player, he is poor in the air, he doesn't have much pace, and he is not a natural goalscorer. But he is good at close control and quick passing, and his size seems to be occupying defenders and allowing space for Rushford to exploit. It is difficult to argue, though, with the success they are having with him in their team.
I would be surprised if they take him on permanently. If they get the arab backers that have been mentioned, then I would expect them to buy Kane, who can do the same Job AND score goals.

Re: Weghorst
I am in complete agreement. Casimiro and Martinez instead of Ronaldo and Maguire, and an in form Rashford, have reinvigorated ManUre. Weghorst is obviously playing a role but it’s a minor one.Darthlaw wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 9:45 amWill have been nice yesterday to be on the pitch to celebrate a goal with his colleagues. They usually tend to score within minutes of him being substituted.
I would suggest that its Man Utd's success is more down to the solid defence of Martinez and Varane, the Makelele like presence of Casemero and unbelievable form of Rashford, rather than Weghorst tracking back and running round a lot.
If Man Utd arent looking to upgrade on him, I'd be astounded.

Notice how Newcastle have struggled without Chris Wood.

Re: Weghorst
Dont forget World Cup winner Pogba who had all the skills in the world but spent much of the time shrugging his shoulders and looking up into the sky if his team mates didnt pass to him and such like. He loved playing to the gallery but was unlikely to roll his sleeves up and tackle back if he wasn't in the mood. Dont think United fans called him "Pogsh*te" because they all loved him!Claretmisterg wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 2:41 pmI am in complete agreement. Wow! So the biggest club in the world (possibly) who are doing extremely well and really getting their act together on the pitch, have decided to use a player who is a bit crap in a key role, and to employ a halfwit manager who's way behind half this messageboard in his thinking.

Can’t understand the ‘tall, must be good in the air ’ argument. Peter Crouch wasn’t that good in the air but was a great link man. As is Weghorst.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 2:04 pmI have never rated him. For such a tall player, he is poor in the air, he doesn't have much pace, and he is not a natural goalscorer. He is doing exactly what ETH needs him to do, it wasn’t Weghorst’s fault that Dyche just assumed he could be a target man because he is 6’6.

Re: Weghorst
Interesting listening to Vincent Kompany responding to a question about Wout Weghorst in the Fleetwood press call. He praised him for his cup success. Moderated, a little, because WW has done it with ManU, while VK was a City player.

That's right. Exactly half of his Premier League goals were headers.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 8:19 pmCrouch holds the record for most headed goals in Premier League history.

There’s a difference between hearing ability towards goal vs winning 50/50s and long balls.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 8:19 pmCrouch holds the record for most headed goals in Premier League history.
Wout is terrible as a head on a stick but has scored some bloody good headers - same with Crouch

In heading ability **
Re: Weghorst
For me, only person who thought Weghorst was a head on a stick was Dyche, hence we saw very little of his true attributes
Maybe Weghorst was p!ssed off with that tactic hence his attitude was not at its best
Just an opinion

I really cannot think of any other Burnley player in the history of the club has been so villified by the club's fans.

Re: Weghorst
He's doing what most of us on here always thought he was good at, off the ball work rate and linking up play. The problem was that we needed him to get the goals too. Fingers crossed it works out well for all parties and he gets a big move and we make our money back, or even a profit.

Re: Weghorst
There’s no way Weghorst starts nearly every game for United and then ETH sends him back to us.
He’s also kissing United fans arses so hard it’s sickening. A move is lined up and most likely agreed, I’d say. Unfortunately he’s not done well enough to warrant a bigger fee than the €10m in the Besiktas contract. But United will pay that, we shouldn’t get greedy - take it & run.

Also, there’s no way Weghorst starts every game if other forwards are match fit. Strangely they could probably play Maguire up front and achieve the same output they’re getting from Weghorst, currently.NewClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 9:20 pmThere’s no way Weghorst starts nearly every game for United and then ETH sends him back to us.

I can’t see any PL clubs coming in for him as seemingly he can put the ball in the back of the net everywhere else but there.
