But do we really want to foster a spirit of "you're not good enough, these lot are better, we can't win so let's not try"?

If we rest the better players for City, there is every chance they'll be upset about not getting the chance which might affect their league form anyway.
Why would we rest anyone for either game, it’s two games in four days then two weeks off for most.

I'd start with;

Muric
Ekdal, Beyer, Taylor,
Roberts, Cullen, Cork, Zaroury,
Barnes,
Tella, Foster.

Plenty of options on the bench to switch it about.

Muric
Roberts Ekdal Beyer Maatsen
Cork Cullen
Tella JBG Zaroury
Barnes

Foster Obafemi and hopefully Benson waiting to come on
This ☝️

Tonight more important IMO. Don’t want to lose our unbeaten record and give Sheff U or Boro the faintest sniff of catching us. City is a free hit so to speak

tonight for me:
Muric
Roberts, Ekdal, Beyer(al -dakhil), Maatsen
Cullen, JBG
Vitinho, Tella, Zaroury
Foster
I think if Beyers a bit knackered or Ekdal we could see Al dakhil come in and it not negatively effect the team, Think Barnes has played a lot and could use a rest and Foster seems to be more similar to barnes than Obafemi plus now with his goal I think he'll have momentum and confidence.

So? Im referencing Fosters willingness to drop in and link up/ Hold up player as a false nine Obafemi is more of a run off the last man grey/ings type which for the minute isnt a striker of the profile we need with Tella carrying out that role.

It's a toss up between the league and the Cup. How likely are we to break records in the Championship vs how likely we are to make the final or win the Cup? The Championship is still our most likely avenue for this. However, I understand that the players will want to play this weekend. It's the QF and it's away at arguably one of the best teams in Europe. Who doesn't want to test themselves against the best?

My judgement is clouded by "ghosts of Man City past". My rational thinking doesn't apply. I feel like they could bring Shaun Goater out of retirement for Saturday and he'd bang in another hat-trick against us ha ha!!
