Re: England Squad
If you think of the likes of Ferdinand, Terry, Cole - our current defence is where we need much improvement. I actually think Pickford is much improved in the last couple of years and a little underrated

Re: England Squad
They must think he’s better off playing every game for U21s currently than sitting on bench for first team. I do understand that reasoning, Southgate has always been an advocate of young players getting international competing minutes.

Re: England Squad
Potentially but I think Ward Prowse has really dropped off this season.Elizabeth wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 8:54 pmWriting players like Ward Prowse off because Southampton are bottom of the league is short sighted( you haven’t I know)
I like this Harrison Reed at Fulham who are flying this season. Is he English , I think he is ?
Other alternatives to Phillips have been mentioned by others but if people are blinkered that’s their problem
I like Reed but not sure he’s good enough. I think there’s an argument for Loftus Cheek who has recently broke back into the Chelsea team, or maybe Yates from Forrest.
I would potentially have gone down the route of Skipp or Ramsey but the england set up must see them as more valuable getting minutes for the u21s.
But if I’m honest I’m not sure any of them would perform better than Phillips if called upon. He’s been consistent for England.

That’s a lazy opinion. Southampton would already be down if it wasn’t for Ward-ProwseNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 9:43 pmPotentially but I think Ward Prowse has really dropped off this season.

You’re potentially right and I know it’s not all down to ward prowse as his whole team is struggling this year but Ward Prowse stats have dropped this year.roperclaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 9:53 pmThat’s a lazy opinion. Southampton would already be down if it wasn’t for Ward-Prowse
His passing stats arnt as good and his goal and assist output has dropped also.

A little, but Mount’s stats have dropped off a cliff.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 17, 2023 10:10 pmYou’re potentially right and I know it’s not all down to ward prowse as his whole team is struggling this year but Ward Prowse stats have dropped this year.

Re: England Squad
Longstaff is not exactly a defensive midfielder.
Of course I'd pick will evans over dqrko as he's match fit and Welsh.
I don't think that its a case of any of them having experience of the particular situation the England find themselves in. Most of that squad weren't born when England last played a quality side in a qualifier.
Yes, I'd play skipp alongside declan rice.

Always look at the midfield in a side/squad and I agree, it's not very good.Cornwallclaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 9:50 pmBellingham aside that midfield is dreadful, all either not playing or well out of form…the England set up is a joke..Southgate is just an fa puppet,I’m personally sick of it

He's decided to represent the USA after being overlooked by England.

As Gareth is so fond of saying “Tomori is another Dier”claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 4:24 pmPicks Toney as he hasn't been found guilty, yet Toney has admitted most the charges... so he just left him out the World Cup squad
Doesn't pick Sterling as he hasn't played enough, previously hides behind players not letting him down
Picks Dier over Tomori
Welcome back Gareth, you squad picking has been missed

What is GS gonna do for a first choice keeper if T-Rex is relegated with Everton?
