Actually I was thinking Essex - Ian Drury but looking him up on Wiki it turns out he was born in Middlesex.

Deep Purple came out of an idea from Chris Curtis to form a kind of supergroup where people would jump in and out of the band. The first semblence of the band joined together in Deeves Hall in Herts where they all started to live, write and rehearse together hence Deep Purple the band is deemed to have originated at that point in time in Herts

When I first saw this I said he has to be West Yorkshire(born) or Suffolk(raised). He’s neither, which is another cock up. As is the Hollies, 3 members, not being Lancashires offering.

My favourite Iain Matthews/Matthews Southern Comfort hailed from Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. MSC had a number one but didn't trouble the charts after that so may be not high enough sales.

Candidates for Hertfordshire:

I suggested Harry Webb/Cliff Richard as he lived in Cheshunt but was born in India.

It could also be The Shadows/Hank Marvin as I think he lived/lives in Radlett.

Then there's Acker Bilk who lived in Potters Bar where I live.

Or Peters and Lee - she lived in Potters Bar whilst I think he was in Cockfosters.

Or even Spencer Davis who lived in Potters Bar at the time of the Spencer Davis Group.

They were. I was replying to the thought of Rafferty for Cumbria that then pointed out he was from Paisley.
