Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
VK is almost a certainty to win his.
I’m surprised Brownhill has been put forward. Not sure he’s even been in out top 3 players this season.
Beyer, Cullen and Tella could all have easily been nominated

Brownhill has had an excellent season but he hasn’t even been our best midfielder - that accolade goes to Cullen.
Any one of Cullen, Beyer or Tella could rightfully claim our player of the year.

Top 3 for me this season (no particular order) would be:
- Akpom
- Tella
- Gyökeres

Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
Brownhill has been consistently our best player when it comes to a neutral point of view. Not sure how to judge it really as clearly these are people who don’t see all our games etc but they are also people who don’t have pre conceived notions of how good or more importantly in this context how bad he is.
He is there for a reason though who has voted out of interest is it the PFA or some other body?

6 goals and 10 assists, played a number of different roles in midfield, captain in Cork's absence; Brownhill is well worthy of his place on the list.

I would edge Ndiaye ahead of Gyokeres. I think if Sheff Utd go up, as they will , he will become a very sought after striker for the big clubsCoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 12:33 pmTop 3 for me this season (no particular order) would be:

Think if Cov didn't have Gyökeres they'd probably be around 15th-16th though, don't think N'diaye (who I really rate) has the same impact for his teamwarksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 12:48 pmI would edge Ndiaye ahead of Gyokeres. I think it’s hard to justify putting him as the championship player of the season when he is likely not even going to be considered for our own player of the season.
It’s difficult to look past the three I mentioned fighting it out for the player of the season award.

Can't be arsed to look it up but, Tella aside, Brownhill has been involved in more goals than anyone else I think. It's difficult to justify any non-burnley player being named championship player of the season but Brownhill is as worthy as any of his teammates. All our players have had good and less good patches this season. He wouldn't be my choice either for our player of the season but then player of the season is a load of junk anyway, it's a team game.

In reality only Burnley players should be reviewed for championship player of the season.
I can think of only two others players that have genuinely had impressive seasons and that is Akpom and Ndiaye
Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
Makes me laugh when you see "Teams Of The Season" (usually WhoScored) and there's only two Burnley players in it. Burnley, Burnley are the team of the season. Gyokeres, Akpom and Ndiaye are the three who I can understand being in the conversation too but any "Team Of The Season" should have seven or eight Burnley players minimum.

Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
Brownhill has impressed in this league as many expected he would, however I'm surprised he's been nominated ahead of a few other Burnley players.
Beyer- Mr. consistency and it can't be a coincidence we've kept plenty of clean sheets since his debut, also his driving runs have sparked a lot of our best attacking play.
Cullen- he does a lot of the unseen graft, but he can also play if he needs to, and no surprise he's likely the 1st name on Vinny's team sheet, an absolutely vital cog in our system.
Tella- I wasn't convinced when he came on loan, but he's likely to bag 20 or more, and it's not just his goals it's his pace which troubles defenders, aptly demonstrated last night by the sending off.
Numerous others who have enjoyed decent seasons as well, but what marks us out is we aren't reliant on one individual it's as a collective where our strength is.
Kompany will surely win the manager's crown, although Carrick deserves a mention for the cracking job he's doing at Boro.

Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
I think we've had 7 players who've pretty much held down a first team place all season and avoided any lengthy injury's keeping them out of the team who could be in contention for player of the season. Brownhill is one of them but I'd probably have him down at #6 which shows how good we have been.
My list would be as follows with #1 and #2 position being extremely hard to call
7 Muric - key to the way we play and has undoubtedly improved as the season has gone on
6 Brownhill - started the season like a rocket but has ended up playing a much more balanced and consistent team role meaning he's never quite up there for MotM but always near by
5 Maatsen - Brilliant modern day full back who's only going to get better and better and could even reach the levels of Trippier if he continues progressing
4 Zaroury - At the peak of their game this is our star player and I can't believe ive ended up rating 3 better players than him considering how good he is
3 Tella - It wasn't that long a go when a fair few posters had Tella as the least important of the 4 loanee's to sign and then he started scoring goal after goal after goal. Benson's injury could have hurt us badly but Tella's goals and all round play meant we hardly missed him
2 Cullen - My favourite player and everything I like in a footballer. Went a bit unnoticed at first as Cork rightly got a lot of the midfield plaudits but over the season Cullen has shown he is definitely the player who makes this whole team tick
1 Beyer - He looked good from the very start although THB looked the better of the two but Beyer has just got better and better and for me he has just about stood out as our player of the season above Cullen, Tella and Zaroury

Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
We have been blessed with many good players throughout the season. Brownhill does, in my view, deserve a special mention as the energy he puts in, and his assists and goals, have been major contributions. He leads by example and is unfailingly positive.
But the person who knits it all together has to be Cullen. Outstanding.

They have no way of grading players based on team playstyle.
For example (and I do love Tarkowski) but they had him as the top or second highest rated centre half one season in the Prem/Europe, purely because he registered a silly amount of blocks and clearances.
Now of course he was great, especially for us, but top in Europe? No chance

Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
I think Gyokeres will win it with goals and assists. Unless they do the usual and just go for the most goals as it's easier than actually having to make a decision. Cullen isn't there because he just goes about quietly doing his job so isn't noticed as much as the others.

Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
The interesting one will be the PFA Team of the season as this is voted for by fellow pros.
How many of our team will make it into that?
Despite our dominance I reckon it will be 3 as an absolute maximum.

Doesn’t matter what a computer says. We are simply the best. By far.
Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
As a team we are the best but we don't rely on one or two players where other teams do so they stand out more.
Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
Brownhill has been superb this season and worthy of this nomination (as would the other names mentioned on here by others). When the club put out an end of year montage of all of our goals, just look at how much involvement he has in them, even if he might not be the final assister/scorer (6 goals 8 assists is already good for a midfielder).
Fb ref have metrics for this called shot and goal creating actions. Basically it looks at how close to the 'final' action the player was, I think you need to be involved in the sequence of the last two passes before the shot/goal. He currently ranks in the 93rd and 97th percentiles respectively vs other midfielders in the league.
(Here is a direct link to check out other metrics if you fancy: https://fbref.com/en/players/47369df8/s ... ing-Report )
Aside from that, his pressing and dynamism off the ball is no joke and helps us win the ball back so quickly but also helps provide that passing option, which makes it look like we have an extra man at times. The role he's suited the most this season, for me, has been this advanced 8 on the right, next to Cullen as a 6 and JBG as the left sided 8. While we definitely need to strengthen midfield in the summer, I'm quite confident VK will be using Brownhill quite frequently in the Prem and we'll see a different player to last time.

Lot of politics in the “league awards”. Always think the PFA & LMA awards are more representative of the season and carry more weight.

Brownhill has had an excellent season. But as a few have said or alluded to, I'd also have Beyer, Cullen and Tella ahead of him.

Akpom is probably the story of the season.
Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
Bizarre. Robins? Brownhill?
Re: Brownhill and VK nominated for player and manager of the season.
You could tell that with VK’s reaction when Brownhill got injured on Monday. Never seen him react in such a worried manner to another injury. Possibly he thought it was his knee though - I certainly did the way he crumpled.
Brownhill is an excellent player - really can do every part of the midfield role.
