But did you think Adams and Armstrong were PL level? I certainly didn’t. Gyokeres I think is ready for the PL.
Yeah I agree Trevor, do you think Andre Gray was a prem success ?

Based on what?

Their last seasons in the championship:
Adams got 22 goals in 46 matches.
Armstrong got 28 in 40 matches.
Gyökeres has 21 in 45 matches.

As they all have similar figures what makes you think they weren't good enough but Gyökeres is?

Gyokeres looks better than both of them and I also think he is a much better player than Akpom who scored almost 10 more league goals.

Maybe worth noting that Gyokeres has 10 assists to his name whilst Akpom has just 2.
General all round play and creating scoring opportunities for teammates is just as important as converting chances.

Gyokeres is the best striker, perhaps best player I've seen against us this season.

different kind of players, gyokeres fashions his own chances from nothing and is very technical adams and armstrong are very different kinds of players

Also worth noting the strikers that have stepped up recently have had absolutely exceptional records in the championship.

Toney last season - 33 goals
Mitrovic - 43 goals
Watkins - 28 goals
Wood - 28 goals

Makes you wonder why Armstrong in particular has been so poor.

Reminds me of another one of their past players Shane Long - certainly puts a shift in just not that level for regular goals which as a striker you are judged on.

The first two are more poachers. Gyokeres is a more rounded player. He carries the ball, he has plenty of assists, he can take the ball in with a CB all over him plus his goals.

The thing with Gyokeres is that I could see him playing in our system as a replacement for Barnes/Rodriguez because his all round game is also very good. Its the complete opposite of someone like Andre Gray who was undoubtedly a good goal scorer at Championship level but who didn't have much of an all-round game.

It depends how we are going to approach next season in terms of tactics but from what I've seen of him Gyokeres looks ready made for us.

His performances against us.
He played more out wide than through the middle, was fast, very strong in the tackle and holding onto the ball. He had quick feet, and a quick brain, he caused us a lot of problems for someone playing virtually up front on his own.
I could tell from that performance that he was a very talented player, who would suit any role VK used him in.

I also think he'll be out of our price bracket sadly.
We'd be better off buying 6 cheaper players from abroad, and if only 3 of them work out we'll have done well.

Gyokeres has 1 year left on his contract at the beginning of next season and he’s switched agents.

He knows that he holds the cards and Coventry cannot afford to let any sale drag on into January.

Assuming they don’t go up, nobody is paying 20m for him, doubtful even 15m.

If he wants to come to us then 10-15m + McNally gets him.

You are being very optimistic thinking Coventry won’t demand more.

Semenyo literally just got sold for 10m with 6 months left on his deal.

Semenyo had a year extension at Bristol so had 18 months left on his deal

There is no way Coventry would take any loans in return. They be getting far less money for the player and at the end of the loan period would have to hand players back.

Very little financial sense for them.
I wasn’t saying that they would take less for Gyokeres, just that having two very talented players on loan might mean they favour a deal with us, especially if we fund them.

If they don’t go up they’ll have to sell Gyokeres and they’ll need to replace his goals, which Twine might provide looking at his league one goal tally.

The key focus will be getting to the Prem & securing the £200m or so it guarantees you, they won’t care so much how it’s achieved. We didn’t, we took 5 loans!

But also I think we need to be really careful not to let go the solid squad we built in summer - McNally, Twine, CJER, etc as we don’t want another full rebuild job if we get relegated.

Well, they can demand what they like of course but I will hang my hat on him not going for more than 15m. (If they don’t go up)

I think Hes a very good player at this level but yet another example to throw on the pile of “too good for the championship, not good enough in the PL”

No doubt about it, all new signings come with risk and even more so with strikers in my opinion. There have certainly been plenty of top Championship strikers who have then struggled in the prem. Equally, there have been some really good ones as well such as Watkins, Toney, Mitrovic all being recent examples of players who have now stepped up.

Ideal world is when someone comes through the academy such as the Brighton lad. If that doesn’t happen, second best option is probably a bit of a punt from abroad for less than the extortionate price of many players in this country, Foster being the obvious example. Sadly, it might well be too early to expect much from him next season, but you never know!?

Personally, I would like us to sign Gyokeres, but with him only having 1 year left on his contract, I think £15-20 million is about the limit and we may not even be able to go that high. We also have to factor in the fact that Coventry may well win the play offs which probably ends any transfer speculation, at least from us anyway.

We can't hold on to players, on the grounds we might be relegated. We need players for the Premier league now, we can't clog the squad with players, for a scenario that might never happen.

A deal with add ons heavily linked to first team appearances would be the way, and a sell on clause to suit Coventry. If he does not appear regularly because he has not proved good enough that will cap our spending. Would work for both sides. I doubt whether an existing PL team is wanting to pay more than about £12m.

The benchmark for me is Adam Armstrong who played in the Championship scoring 64 goals in 160 appearances for Rovers. For Saints just four goals in the best part of two seasons, and he cost Saints £15m-hardly a good investment.

Another comparison is Che Adams who went from Birmingham to Saints, also for £15m, but he has at least scored 31 goals in 144 appearances

Our squad won’t be “clogged with players”, since they’d be in other teams squads.

Nearly every team in the Prem loans their fringe players, hence us having 5 on loan this year, so it’d be nothing unique to us.

VK has said quite clearly that he’s planning for two scenarios - being competitive in the Prem and relegation, so it’s obvious the club are very much considering both scenarios which may happen.

If we buy a load of Premier league ready players (which I hope we do) and then get relegated again, they’ll all move on like Cornet and Weghorst, and we’ll be left with a 16 man rebuild again, which we’d be lucky to get away with twice. I don’t think we can risk that and we need to build some depth.

We maybe have calls to make on the likes of Costelloe and Thomas, but the likes of McNally, Twine & CJER have all shown enough promise to keep & provide us depth imo.

Correct me if I’m wrong ,but are we only allowed 2 loans from English teams ,but several more from abroad ,if so then it may be an idea to use the foreign loan option,so if things do go wrong after a season they can return to their parent clubs ,and it doesn’t cost us an arm ,and a leg.

HITC don’t actually pluck stuff off thin air, they just repeat what has been found elsewhere. In this case Ivanusec has done an interview following some links to us by a Croatian media outlet last week. This link at the time was posted on here.

Ivanusec was linked ages ago and if you read the article its not from HITC its from a croatian newspaper the same that broke the Mislav Orsic to Southampton story the likelyhood is that Ivanusec is a goer

If THB stays with us then surely McAtee is likely to stay with Sheff United if Man City want to carry on loaning out the players.

THB and McAtee are both Citeh players.

If THB stays with us then surely McAtee is likely to stay with Sheff United if Man City want to carry on loaning out the players.
I was thinking more buy for a low fee with a buy back clause ! We all know we will more likely find someone from the Lithuanian 3rd division that nobody has heard of for 30 quid and he'll be quality ! :D

We need a genuine striker. Viktor Gyokores for me. He's the best striker I've seen in the championship this year.
I think he would get goals in the PL.
being heavily linked with Wolves, we won't be getting him

I met Darko Churlinov in arrivals at Manchester Airport this morning, he had just come back from Germany, asked him if he was leaving & he said “yes unfortunately”

Gyokeres is the best striker, perhaps best player I've seen against us this season.thought he was crap at the turf doesn’t make him a bad player but didn’t play well that day

Had high hopes for him ,unfortunately it hasn’t worked out ,VK seems to have a downer on him ,still plays Twine, and Vitinho ,and both have been relatively underwhelming.the guy seemed really low on confidence ,and can’t remember seeing him taking a man on.

Bit of a soft link but we’ve been mentioned as being keen on Charles de Ketelaere from AC Milan on loan.

Signed from Club Brugge last summer for a big fee and hasn’t lived up to it yet. Talented player though.

A player I’ve watched a ton of, including his start for a weakend Milan side the other night where he was incredibly poor and hooked off. Hasn’t score all season for Milan, he’s more an attacking midfielder than striker IMO but seems to play further forward for AC. Was really good in a fluid role alongside Noa Lang at Brugge, CDK got the move and surprisingly Lang didn’t, Lang had a slow start to this season, probably sulking at Brugge but he’s back in form recently.

If Watford have sold Joao Pedro for £30 million, then I suspect that those who're sure we can buy Gyokeres for £10-15 million are likely to be disappointed.

Joao Pedro is a 21 year old Brazilian who had 5 years left on his contact after this summer.

Viktor Gyokeres is a soon to be 25 year old Swede with 1 year left on his contract.

£15m feels about right.

Pedro has also performed pretty well in the PL already.

I’d be absolutely all over this… no brainer for me.
