It doesn't feel like that long ago that they were the club to admire with a very productive academy.

Poor managerial appointments, change of owners and a failure to spend their money wisely sees them relegated today, despite it being obvious they were gone a little while ago

When we were going up in 2009 they were on there way to league 1 via administration and points deductions.

I'll never forget the behaviour of hundreds of their fans after that game. Good riddance I say.

Can't see Tella wanting to play Championship football. Surely Southampton won't want to keep a player who wants away. The only problem, which has been mentioned before, is the price. Fingers crossed we can afford him.

Shame about Southampton. It just means that one out Leeds, Leicester and Everton will stay up. Although I don’t really like Leeds, I hope it’s Leicester and Everton that go down.
Leicester because of their administration that put loads of local tradesmen out of business when they built the crisp bowl then refused to pay their bills.
The preference for Everton to go needs no explanation
Following relegation I hope both clubs face the financial consequences that they deserve.
All that said I have no doubts that the PL will do all in their power to ensure that Forest are at least one of the ones to go. Watch out for dodgy VAR and reffing decisions in the final games.

Southampton’s relegation will probably make it harder for us to get Tella for a fair price. Southampton have him on a reasonable contract and have seen what he has done in the Championship this season. Unless they need to get his wages off their expenditure, or unless the player makes it difficult for them to keep him, I see them putting a daft fee on him, one that they could not refuse if someone offered it. Otherwise he stays.

Want Leicester to go - they have become absolutely endless and entitled since winning the league. And the administration thing.

Want Leeds to go - insert anything you want here...I would do it myself but I don't think i'd be able to stop once I started.

Want Everton to go - for completely ignoring FFP and getting away with it for so long. And because they are classless.

So as you can see, I'm going to be disappointed.

They are likely to be a bit flush too after the sale of JWP, amongst others.

they are not in the best FFP position either

then there is that £78.8m loan that they have with MSD - you would imagine that MSD are going to want to see at least £25m of that if our experience is anything to go by - the loan still has a little over 2 years to run I believe

Yeah I read they had a loan with the same people we had a loan with, also people saying they have other good players they can raise funds with, they need to find clubs willing to pay their wages

Didn’t they recently get charged by the Premier League? We haven’t heard the last of this.

Now, there is funny, and then there is really, really, funny.

What would be really really funny is if Everton go down, we bounce back up, yet still successfully sue them for huge amounts of money if this is linked to their FFP issues. The legal case won’t have changed much by this season’s events, just the size of financial impact we experienced.

I know its unlikely, but it is a nice warm feeling just imagining it and Everton’s reaction

Again, like us, Bolton, Blackburn, WBA and so on, a steady decline year on year with clubs unable or unwilling to spend enough, early enough, to arrest the decline.
Theres a certain inevitability about it all.
We, thankfully, have bucked the trend this season in spectacular fashion by having a complete overhaul.
I can't see Southampton, particularly, being able to be contenders next season.

James ward prowse - 25m
Lavia - 25-30m
Alcaraz - 20m
Kotchap - 25-30m
Walker Pieters - 15m
Bazanu - 20m

Best part of 140m worth of sellable talent and that still leaves them with a squad strong enough for promotion.

There front three could be Adams, Tella, Armstrong

Leeds and Everton would be my choice of what is left.

A bit of revenge for last season and it’d be really interesting to see how both coped in the division below: Leeds potentially missing out on 49ers investment and Everton having to deal with their money issues and stadium funding.

I suspect that it will be Leicester and one of Leeds or Forest. Forest seem to have a little momentum but it really wouldn’t surprise me is Leeds went and won their last two.

If there was a God, it would have been Forest, Leeds and Everton.

Whatever happens it’s going to be tight….

Not sure about that. We saw what a weaker position relegation left us in with regards to retaining players. Also if Soton stayed up they would be less inclined to sell players to a competing club. That said if they want to keep him then they can do regardless.

Not so sure with that one. He’s already linked to both newcastle and Liverpool.

The Orsic one is odd.

Played just 6 minutes, and is fit, for a club in desperate straits who preferred the useless at this level Armstrong over a player who has already scored against Chelsea and Milan in the Champions League this season.

He may be a bad un but more likely that manager, only in his 30s and in his first senior managerial job, is rubbish at selecting or getting the best out of him. Selles reminds me of Howe at Burnley, the job being too big for him at the time (not now obvs).

It's been on the cards for quite awhile but whilst they've still got Tella & a few decent acquisitions & retain a few & a half decent manager overseeing things it won't be long for them, Southampton are just a club making the numbers up like the majority & a odd 1 or 2 fall short & need a season to reset & regroup to go again, it's a setback but nothing too damaging long term I don't think.

He almost certainly would make it difficult. Few players wouldn't, if they were expected to play Championship football on reserve team wages when another club wants him to play in the Premier League on PL wages.

I reckon the wages Southampton offered to an untried reserve a couple of years ago will be substantially less than what Burnley or another PL club would offer now. But I'm only guessing.

I'm more concerned about him going to another PL club than him staying at Southampton.

I think what we want to happen is irrationally clouding the judgement of what will happen, a big deal has been made of how much he's enjoyed his time here which I don't doubt for 1 minute that that's true, but he'd hardly turn around & say no it's been a bag of sh1t here, he's a Southampton player & they'll cash in or logically realise he represents their best chance of getting out of the division & if you follow the smart money.

We also don't know if there are relegation clauses in the contracts at Southampton

I hadn’t realised how much money Southampton had spent this season alone until I watched MOTD.

There’s £110m+ spent between the windows last summer and January.

Huge sums.
