Musicians in their eighties
I’ve just bought an album that comes across to me as the best that this particular artist has made. It’s called Defiance Part 1 and it’s by Ian Hunter. He’s 83 years old. The album is full of guest stars - Ringo Starr, Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck, amongst others - and it’s remarkable.
I’ve also, fairly recently, bought current albums by other octogenarians - Bob Weir (and the Wolf Brothers), Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder - which are equally as good and amongst their best works ever.
It just goes to show. Time knows no bounds.

I went to see Roxy Music in Manchester in September. One or two in their eighties on stage. Great performance

As long as their voice is still intact they have hope.
Robert Plant wasn't in his 80s (he was 60) but his work with Alison Krauss shows he still has it - good singing voice and great harmonies.
Jagger (80 this year) still seems to manage it too and includes a fair bit of leaping about as well. Amazing! I think he said that one of his advantages was that he never sang that well so he can still do his stuff!

I saw Paul Jones at the end of last year, still an amazing voice - range and power. Outstanding.
Don't know how old he is but got to be 80 at least.

Listened to much of his music with Mott the Hoople when I was a teenager. Some great stuff. I’ve never seen them live and regret that I didn’t hear that he’d once performed at Burnley Mechanics until afterwards.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 9:41 pmI’ve just bought an album that comes across to me as the best that this particular artist has made. Musicians very rarely lose it, if they are able. The voice goes first.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 9:47 amMany jazz musicians are just hitting their stride in their eighties
I’m amazed that they still want to put the hard miles in at that age.
The roar of the crowd must be some magnet.

The words of Bread's Guitar Man sum it up. I dare say there are other songs that describe the lot of a musician - Eris Burdon has been mentioned:Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 2:46 pmMusicians very rarely lose it, if they are able. The voice goes first.
