The favourite Burnley 11 thread got me also thinking about those players that for whatever reason I just never took to or did something to make me dislike them.
Not necessarily bad players or worst players as that has been done, but who would make your least favourite 11?
Not sure I could get a workable 11 but some names that would definitely feature would be
Mears
Shackell (just never took to him at all)
Howey
Nogan
Paul Stewart
Weghorst
Coyle would be manager
There was a time when Robbie Blake would have featured on here as I loathed him the 1st time he left and refused to applaud him when he came back and swore I never would. He quickly won me over again though

Some Burnley fans aren't happy unless they are having a go at one of their own. They like to single someone out for abuse. Ray Deakin got dogs abuse before he came out the other side and became a cult hero. Branchy was similar. More down to their own good character and perseverance than any help at all from the crowd.

Same here. I was much younger and more emotional when Blake left (older than I should have been to be acting like that though) but like I said he won me back over and made me realise the error of my ways.
I would still support Wout in the unlikely event he stays next year too even though he has conducted himself poorly IMO.

Difficult one but there have been players at all levels who I've just not taken to. It's too easy to go for the worst players (for me most of those would be in the 1980s) but in more recent years I just couldn't get excited about such as David Edgar, Brian Stock and Wout Weghorst, and unlike many, I did think that for most of the time Chris Eagles flattered to deceive.
I couldn't include players who have played just a handful of games, they didn't get enough chance to get into the list.

Never started a game in the Premier League did he - given his build up by the manager I could potentially add him to a list of biggest disappointments but because of his lack of minutes I could hardly consider him a least favourite.

Liam Robinson. Well I just thought he was crap
Neil Whatmore. Replaced Billy Hamilton.
Phil Malley. Came good with guts and determination tbf.
Danny Drinkwater. Insert Alan Partridge 'shrug' gif.
Not too bad at 4.
Coyle for manager.

Don’t quite see the point of this thread given some Clarets pre-disposition to criticising and a seemingly illogical tendency toward hating some individuals/clubs.
It seems obvious that Weghorst is going to be mentioned a lot but given that VK has said he is going to have talks with him (good) to see if we can bring him back to the fold that criticism should be held back somewhat. VK knows best.
For what it’s worth I think he would be brilliant in our current set up, Dyches style was never going to work for him. Still we shall see.
For what it’s worth I don’t ‘dislike’ any of our players, past or present.

I don't think any Burnley player has ever wound me up so much I'd say I disliked them but there have been a few that I've never thought of as being a "Burnley player" whether loaned to us or actually signed for us.
There were some complete wastes of time who didn't give a ****, namely Drinkwater, Hart, Weghorst and probably a few others recently

I might be in the minority here but I liked Hart. Didn’t do much wrong for us and felt he was unfairly treated by a large portion of fans.

Well it was Paul Stewart, but since being made aware of the horrors he went through, he gets a free pass so to speak, and I wish him nothing but the best as he continues to deal with it.
I think probably Danny drinkwater.

I don't dislike anyone wearing our shirt but amongst those who didn't do much to warrant respect were Drinkwater, Gascoigne and Treacey.
All 3 with obvious drink problems and that doesn't bode well for sportsmen, the Clubs and the fans.
Someone within the Staff knew these 3 had problems but still allowed them to draw a hefty paypacket without much coming back.

Likewise it was Paul Stewart but with hindsight he gets a pass.
Gout Weghorst
Manager - Waddle or Bond
Cult hero for me that others seemed to dislike was Branchy. The talent and adaptability that that boy had were matched only by his perm!

When anyone signs for Burnley I think we all like them and want them to do well.
Obviously for some players it doesn’t work out as planned and I personally hate it when some of these become “boo boys” for elements of our crowd (Bob Lord stand seem to be the biggest culprits here). This does nothing to help the individual or the team - it makes it worse for the individual as they lose any confidence and often stop trying to take their men on or go backwards with passing etc.
Some players we have signed just end up not being good enough but if they were given a fair chance by the manager and the crowd and you can see that they were putting in the required effort then personally I don’t see any reason to dislike them.
There are some players down the years where it looks to me like they have not been as professional as they should have been off the pitch and not fit enough to play. Gascoigne was definitely one of them - he took a lot of money from the club (£200k for 8 weeks of football) and he was clearly not fit and by all accounts drinking. I don’t dislike Gazza but I do dislike his time at the club. Whether it was his fault or Stan’s for signing him who knows ? Compare Gazza to Andy Cole and Ian Wright and their brief period at the clubs and you can see why fans appreciated Cole and Wright more because not only did they have fantastic quality but they both put in the effort you would expect.
Invariably if you’ve paid out a lot of money for a player who turns out to be poor then it’s likely they will get more criticism. Same if they are a big name like Gazza, Paul Stewart, etc.
Unfortunately with the likes of Danny Drinkwater you sign them hoping they will find a glimpse of their previous form but the truth is that they never will. It’s looking a similar story now for Deli All. Many players have 2 or 3 good seasons where they look superstars but they then go to a club where they are not as happy or pick up a few injuries and their loss of form is as meteoric as their rise but very few ever get it back again. Coutinho also seeing that to a degree now at Villa. If you sign one of these types of players as they are on their downward spiral then they can quickly become boo boys for the fans as the expectations are a lot higher.

Someone above mentioned Shackell, and I agree, which is odd for a player who scored twice at Ewood.
Lee Grant for me, too. Thought he was decent but couldn't take to him.

The main factor for me is if they are disrespectful of the club or fans, are reportedly a disruptive influence on the squad or lack application on the pitch. Playing badly is only a small factor unless it is clearly combined with a lack of application.
I've limited myself to five that jump straight to mind:
1. Kurt Nogan
2. Gazza
3. Mark Winstanley
4. Wout Weghorst
5. Jason Shackell

Kevin Long… 10 years of bland crapness.
Fair play to him though for taking us for a couple of million in wages whilst playing about 400 minutes per season.

I guess posters may have their own personal reasons but some of the choices are a bit odd - just players who were a bit crap but, not as far as I can tell, particularly dislikeable.

There many reasons why a player might fall out of favour.
However, there can only be one. His transfer summed up the sorry state we were in at the time.
His loan signing in feb 1987 from Hibs where as forward he had 14 appearances with no goals, allowed him to get eight appearances with no goals for us.
He was without doubt, by a country mile, the most unfit footballer ive ever seen. He could not even run back to get onside.
His signing was a complete mystery to me and his appearance at Stockport County was shocking.
Ladies and gentlemen i give you Mark Caughey!

I struggled with Roberts until part way through this season. I remain to be convinced that he will be good enough at the level above, but he’s definitely earned his chance.
From signing and until after the World Cup, he just didn’t seem up for it or happy. Since then he seems to have really settled into the team and I don’t just mean from a performance perspective.
