They burnt themselves out chasing us and Sheff Utd.

Just been thinking the same - not so sure that he has what it takes to step up a level and be effective

That'll be us getting spanked at City next year - have to remember we are in good company when it happens!

That's as good a team performance as I've seen from city.

In the end it turned out Boro weren’t anywhere near as good as their fans thought for a while.

Good to see it will be the resurgence of an old top flight team winning the playoffs. I grew up with Luton and Coventry in the top flight.

He’s obviously a good player at this level however the games I have seen him in this season (both our games and tonight) he hasn’t impressed me one bit. Twice he has gone through one on one with the GK and he made a pigs ear of it both times (tonight and in the game at Turf Moor)

Boro have been found wanting almost every time they had a chance of getting closer to promotion. They bottled it every time they got close to Sheff United.

Both Luton and Coventry are ecstatic at the moment but one of them will be distraught a week on Saturday.

Fantastic result, pleased for Coventry and even more pleased for us. I simply cannot see us getting relegated next season. Too many weak sides, the play off winner will of course drop. I know that is peeing on their parade a bit but that is life at the top level.

Great for Luke too. Somebody I would keep unless the offer is large. By large I mean £15m+.

Agree on Gyokeres. I think we can do better for the money he would cost.

With the other being relegation fodder next season.

After what both of those clubs fans have had to put up with, I’m delighted for them. Edit:- Luton and Coventry obviously.

I predicted Cov winning on the grounds that Boro have always been bottlers.

If Coventry win the final McNally will have been promoted to the PL with two clubs in the same season.

Marvellous late 80s vibe for a Coventry v Luton final. Feels
like it should be played at the old Wembley.

Coventry deserved it tonight. They played very well but tough end to the season for Middlesbrough. Luton and Boro were the 3rd and 4th best teams and the table doesn’t lie but you need to hit form at the end. Nice to see 2 teams at Wembley who have been at the top and then dropped to the depths like we did.

I think we will be fine next season, and I’m sure we will be making several attacking signings.

Coventry and Luton were both promoted the same season that Accy Stanley won Division 2. Coventry City via the play offs.

Why do some people some people think Luton going up would be better for us than Boro? They finished third, 5 points ahead of Boro, with far better recent form. They might struggle in the PL, but so would Boro, and so might we. Take Akpom out of that Boro team and they are ordinary at best.

Agreed. Luton are the new Wimbledon. They’ll rough house teams but they can get results.

What a player Rodri is. Whilst the plaudits go to the attacking MFs and strikers he is the glue that holds it all together. He appears never to give the ball away. One of those outstanding talents that can tell all the team,”if you are in bother give it to me”.

I think that’s becoming increasingly difficult with VAR. There were a couple of challenges in their semi that would have attracted close VAR attention.

same as Dave Thomas (Clarets + QPR) 1973

he got both a Division 2 (Championship) winners and runner-up medal!

Boro:
Tidy stadium
Famous manager
History of being in the top flight
Pay better wages than Luton
Will attract better players than Luton (this is the big one)

Luton:
the opposite of the above

I was pleased to see Coventry win. The only Burnley game I got my father to attend with me as he was a Villa fan, was the Coventry City v Burnly game where Leighton James scored. It turned out this was Match of the Day on TV that day (in the days when only one match was shown) which we did not know beforehand, but we got to see it again. Ever since I have had a bit of a soft spot for Coventry. If they win we could emulate the result next season, but not of course at Highfield Road.
