If last summer is anything to go by, there’ll be at least one signing that will make posters say “Who?”.

I’m not convinced he’s even third choice at the moment. Casper made the bench more times this season than Franchi. Perhaps he’s not quite what they were expecting.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 5:48 pmi imagine they will continue with Franchi as 3rd choice.

Be pretty surprised if a 22 year old who has been on loan in league 1 gets anywhere near the first team next season.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 9:19 pmI’m pretty sure he was watching Thomas if he was there with Charlie Adam.
Not sure when Thomas’ contract is up with us but he always looked very good to me in the Prem and a constant goal threat too. If possible I’d like to see him get a loan to the Championship team next season.
As an aside, I’m hugely impressed with how hard Kompany is STILL working. He could be getting well deserved break on a beach but he’s still scouting out loanees and potential targets. Reminds me a lot of Ferguson in how he does that personally. Hope he gets a break before pre-season starts though!

Bobby Thomas played well v Bolton. He could be a good back up to Connor Roberts

So we’ve got Newclaret mixing Thomas up with Dunne and Woodley suggesting we play a league one centre half at right back.
Good start to the the UTC day.

I think Bobby Thomas has really grown into men’s football and has made himself an asset for the club. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the 1st team squad, wouldn’t be surprised to see him on loan again, wouldn’t be surprised if we sold him to Barnsley.
If I’m betting, I think he will be in the 1st team squad.

End of the day he could have been watching Trafford but it could very simply be that as Kompany was with Adam that he was watching Bobby Thomas, doesn’t really matter who’s right on the matter

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Nothing was ever confirmed re: Michael Obafemi’s loan as to whether it would be permanent and we’ve still not announced our retained list.
However, Swansea have released theirs and of Obafemi they have said: “While Michael Obafemi is listed as a retained player, the striker will complete a permanent transfer to Burnley following the conclusion of his loan spell at Turf Moor.”

I imagine the loan won't end until after the play off final will it?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 8:57 pmNothing was ever confirmed re: Michael Obafemi’s loan as to whether it would be permanent and we’ve still not announced our retained list.

I would be delighted if we coukd grab Chukwuemeka. He was a real eye catcher at Villa and Chelsea would have made Haaland look poor this season.

The interesting thing about that article, is in the very positive way the club is now being talked about. We are seen as a good fit for a player to develop.what_no_pies wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 5:56 amhttps://footballleagueworld.co.uk/excel ... e-verdict/

I'll be amazed if Twine features for us next season. Personally think a loan to the Championship like McNally would be best for his development.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 10:30 amScott twine was league 1 2 seasons ago and looks like he could be premier league next season,

I think he’ll stay with us. I think VK likes him. If you think about it, he was being picked ahead of Dervisoglu, Churlinov, Bastien, Cork, JBG, Foster and Obafemi in games towards the end of last season (appreciate they don’t all play in his position, but could’ve been accommodated in the team ahead of him, had Vinny not fancied him).
So I’ll be shocked if we let him go but a loan to a top Championship team mightn’t be the worst thing for his development either.

As others have said, he was getting in the side towards the end of the season, and was beggining to show why we signed him. He was one of our best players against Cardiff. He struggled at first for various reasons but I can really see him pushing on now.
McNally has done extremely well on loan, and should be one of our 4 CBs next season.

Achouri has similarities to Zaroury looking at that video
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
All down to the manager and the way we now play the game. The ‘big’ teams all play this type of football nowadays, so I guess it makes perfect sense to loan young talent to clubs like ours to aid their development at a ‘smaller’ club.eastcoastclaret wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 7:38 amThe interesting thing about that article, is in the very positive way the club is now being talked about. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We need another option on the kept flank (Tella is the only natural alternative to Zaroury in our current formation, and he does his best work off the right) but we also need to layer up the squad with a view to departures. If everything goes to plan Zaroury is sold for big money next summer and we'd ideally have his replacement in the building. That layering up is something Brentford and Brighton do very well, and which we did very poorly for whatever reason in the Dyche/Garlick era.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 9:03 amAchouri has similarities to Zaroury looking at that video
It wouldn't be a surprise if the first XI only featured a couple of upgrades next season, but we had a number of new players providing that depth for the future.

Scotty hardly featured last season, due to whatever his injury was, but when he did start playing last season he got better, and better. He starred against Cardiff, despite missing a couple of good chances. He's got quick feet, and a clever football brain, the only doubt I'd have is his physicality. Going on loan to the championship isn't going to improve that. I'd definitely keep him, and if he's up to the rigours, can see him being a regular starter.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 7:58 amI think he’ll stay with us. I think VK likes him. In other news at the Chicken farm down the road, JDT is being heavily linked with Feyenoord by Nixon in the papers this morning. Would like to see him jump ship, he's far too good for them.

Those are 5 key positions we are looking to strengthen in but in reality we could well sign any position.
We’ve been linked with quite a few attacking midfield/wide players already.

That sounds a strange way of thinking if true. Surely if he's so good he's Premier League ready would you not play him in the side in order to get promotion? Experiments are good but not at the expense of results. Was he not fit perhaps?quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 1:31 pmWe got him on loan this season with a practically guaranteed permanent transfer related to promotion. Kompany said a couple of times he didn't feature a lot because he knew what he could do. Highly doubtful we'd be doing any of that if we were going to get rid.

He doesn't need to acclimatise Obafemi to English football. He did need to give Foster games for that reason.
I suspect Obafemi's pace on the counter attack will be a big feature of our strategy next season.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Twine has been given a fitness plan for over the summer that includes increasing his strength. Adding a bit more physicality to his game would serve him well, next season.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 9:54 amScotty hardly featured last season, due to whatever his injury was, but when he did start playing last season he got better, and better. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Early in the season players would sign and be thrown in right away - this was out of necessity. My take is that as the squad settled and Kompany's ideas took hold, those players signed in January were afforded the luxury of time in bedding in, getting used to style of play etc. Certainly the case with the forwards, less so the defence where injuries did have more impact. It's not like we were struggling to pick up results, Foster and Obafemi could be used sparingly while they settled.
