Nixon on Clarke:

Burnley are making a new £7 million plus extras bid for Sunderland winger Jack Clarke.

The Clarets have had one offer rejected as too low but are now at a higher number that may tempt the Black Cats.

Sunderland are looking for £10 million guaranteed for the former Tottenham and Leeds wide man who was outstanding in the Championship last season.

Burnley already have Anass Zaroury so Clarke would have to fight for a start when he comes to consider the move.

Brentford and Crystal Palace are also interested in Clarke but neither have come up with the cash yet.

Palace are unable to bid while they do not know what Wilfried Zaha is planning.

Not out of it yet, we'll be in a difficult position if we miss out as clubs will know we need a keeper and Muric, who looks every bit of a confidence man, knows we want to replace him. Do we now overpay for plans b or c or stick with Muric. Think we'll have a final go at getting him.

It's all subjective, but what we are reported to have paid for our incomings, and what we are reported to have offered for Mikautadze, takes some balancing.
He appears just the type of player we need, for now, not as some resalable asset for the future. I would hate to miss out because we called Metz bluff, and someone else gazumped us.
