There's talk about Origi and De Ketelaere from AC Milan. Sounds pretty good. Foster needs some time to adjust to the higher level. He's promising as well.

I would like Vinnie to work with Nmecha or Zirkzee again. They did amazing at Anderlecht.
Don’t think there’s a striker that Turkish fella hasn’t linked us to

Usually at the end of a season fans want managers to throw on the youngsters to blood them. In our case Kompany has, he’s chucked on Forster and Twine even when you could argue they don’t warrant a spot, if you think or hope either of these are leaving on loan or permanently you are mistaken.

He’s signed them for serious money and he’s going to use them

I think McNally and Twine could potentially used as make ways in deals for better players.

Brownhill I could see leaving, he’s got one year left in his contract and unless VK sees him as a certain starter in the next few seasons then I reckon he will sell him. As he will surely be one of the highest earners in the prem.

I think Taylor and Jay are potentially certs for leaving.
I’d be very surprised if Jay left given the way Kompany has spoken about him.

I think (hope) that J Rod will be playing a big part for us in the coming season, his experience will be more than handy in nurturing our young players.
And he's still a decent player when fit.

I don't think Twine will be going anywhere. Kompany really rates him and some of the players say he is unbelievable in training.

I doubt Brownhill or Twine will be leaving. Brownhill was a regular and Twine shown what he is capable of towards the end of the season and I think VK likes both of them.

The most important area we need to improve is a striker. We can't depend on our wingers to score enough goals to keep us up. Hopefully we'll get tella and another proven goalscorer.
In my opinion midfield is still the position that needs strengthing the most.

None of them are proven at prem level apart from an aging cork.

I don’t think VK will be looking to ship out our most experienced defender, even if he isn’t a starter him being around is worth his wage.
I’d also think it made more sense for Charlie to give it six months and be able to negotiate a free transfer from a Premier League position. Other than an offer he can’t resist coming out of the blue of course.

If we need an experienced defender around the players who isn't going to play then I can think of a slightly more experienced and higher quality defender than CT who can guide the lads....

You think VK is successful because he does it all on his own, I don’t… I think he brings the best out of those around him and encourages their input.

I’ll trust Sacha over Nixon (or anyone else for that matter) when it comes to a potential Belgian league player joining Burnley. The pull of his ex-manager and GK coach could well be the decider here.

R.e Muric, he was fabulous second half of last season, largely faultless (bar Watford at home). The reality is that Kompany is a winner and if he can improve upon ANYONE in this team with the budget he has, then he will do. We should also take massive excitement at the fact that we clearly have £15m+ in our budget to spend on a position that was not really seen as anything approaching a priority. Something very interesting (and exciting) afoot with our transfer budget this summer.
Should we really take massive excitement from spending 15 million on a “position that was not really seen as anything approaching priority”?

Exciting as it may be, as much of a prospect he may be, there’s a part of me that’s a little apprehensive about our approach (if these targets and the figures involved are true).

I’m conflicted to a degree - I’ve long thought that our approach should be to buy well and sell well, it’s just that I’m becoming a little wary about the risks that we may be taking. Hopefully a calculated gamble, that’s not that risky even if we are relegated next season.

Tbf DC a portion of the fan base didn’t think GK was a priority but a large portion thought it was the most critical.

Clearly VK is off the same opinion.

That’s as maybe, I’m not going to question who or what position VK sees as priority - that would be foolish.

I just hope that all the money that we spend is spent wisely and can be recouped in one way or another.

Some of the numbers being bandied about and the names being mentioned are surprising (and yes, perhaps an in exciting if not slightly concerning way).

Is it goalkeeper or midfield that is most critical ?

It’s not going to be another season of your brownhill agenda is it ? If VK picks Brownhill will that be enough for you to accept him as a midfielder seen as VK is of that opinion ?

You’d imagine the people who thought a goalkeeper was critical didn’t have a 20 year old in their mind. If we get verbruggen, whoever starts as number 1 him or muric will probably be the youngest starting keeper in the league

I think the money is almost irrelevant. We are playing a game of moneyball. A keeper who is already at the 15m mark and is interesting Utd and Chelsea but wants a year in the Prem to show he is a no 1 is the sort of banker that this approach targets. It is almost certain we can double our money with a half way decent prem league season under his belt. Even if we’ve had to pay interest on the money we borrow to buy him it still turns a good profit.

Agree with the above, the team is a balance sheet. Last years investments have matured as expected so the money men will now feel more confident in upping their stake. At some point we will have to start flipping some investments to allow us further invest as capital will eventually run out if we don’t

Thing is, if we bring in verbruggen for the amount mentioned, that’s gotta be VK’s decision, and he’s made it for a reason. He sees Muric day in day out on the training pitch, which means he sees him making saves (or not making saves). He actually knows what his keeping abilities are better than any of us. We've only seen one aspect of his game, but granted that aspect is excellent.

No doubt he looked better as the season went on, but in the second half of the season he hardly had a significant save to make such was our possession based game.

I suppose my point is, although I feel Muric has earned a look at it next season, if VK thinks it’s too much for him and Bart’s the answer, then I’m with him. No room for sentiment…. If there was, Dean Marney would still be starting for me….

It does seem we are taking a bit of a risk in the casino.

I thought moneyball was all about taking on "undervalued " players, not ones who were interesting teams such as Chelsea or Man u.

Verbruggen is really good though if there's a slight chance to get a goalkeeper who has the potential to become one of the best I think Burnley should go for it. 15 really isn't that much for him.

A good striker should be the next priority. Burnley got some decent strikers but so far none stood out as good enough even for championship level. They need a PL striker that can score 20+ goals to become a lethal team. Some wingers too so far I only like Benson.

Burnley are planning to look at Arsenal’s Nigerian midfield starlet Joel Ideho after he was released.

Ideho was rated a top prospect but had an injury-hit season and was eventually surprisingly allowed to leave at the end of his contract.

The Clarets are keen to have Ideho for their under-21 side and expect to have him in for pre season training.

I don’t think it’s so much taking “undervalued” players as players who you are likely to turn a tidy profit on…. For me, Verbruggen fits the model. Yes it’s a big (for us) initial outlay, but the signs are already there with interest from Utd and Chelsea that returns would be well worth it.

The purpose of signing a proven youth coach as the guy from Gent is, is to bring on young talent through to first team level. We have sadly lacked this previously

Not with all of them - we've picked up fees for players such as Josh Benson & Jimmy Dunne who came from Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.

gerry Peyton was 19 or 20 when he started playing for us in the top flight in the mid-'70s. A great goalkeeper who we shouldn't have sold.

The Nixon story saying opened by saying Brighton were winning the race, then the next paragraph said “they are planning to offer more [than us]” and the “hope to convince the player in to joining them”.

Not sure how he concludes they are winning the race if they are yet to bid or convince him to join them

Is it goalkeeper or midfield that is most critical ?

It’s not going to be another season of your brownhill agenda is it ? If VK picks Brownhill will that be enough for you to accept him as a midfielder seen as VK is of that opinion ?
I personally think midfield is the most critical.
Lokonga should dramatically help there

If we can get some of the players mentioned over the line, this club is going to shock a lot of people next season. It will also be a young side than can develop and improve together. Let's hope some of the stories are true, we may even get deals done this week with the window opening.

Not with all of them - we've picked up fees for players such as Josh Benson & Jimmy Dunne who came from Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
Adam Phillips too.

We seem to keep hoovering up these sorts of players to then release them 2 years further down the line. Don’t seem to have had any success with them yet.
I think this will improve under this ownership

The Nixon story saying opened by saying Brighton were winning the race, then the next paragraph said “they are planning to offer more [than us]” and the “hope to convince the player in to joining them”.

Not sure how he concludes they are winning the race if they are yet to bid or convince him to join them
They could accept any bid from BHA, but if he really wants to come here he could refuse the contract offered

Have we got some sort of secret investor? Some of the figures being bandied around are crazy…exciting but crazy!
In general are two ways for an investor to put money into the club

- one is a share issue in Burnley FC Holdings Limited - given there are still hundreds of shareholders that would require giving them the option of maintaining their percentage holding - just selling a large number of shares to an exiting or new investor would dilute other holdings and is not allowed by law without opening up the offer to exiting shareholders. That has categorically not happened

- the second is to provide a loan to the club so that it increases the cash balance

there are Profit and sustainability rules around both such practices

However our club is in a rather unique position - it is owed £114.8m by the owners, if all or a substantial proportion of that was repaid then the club would have much more cash and no issue in regards to Profit and Sustainability. Such an instance would provide a huge head start on transfers, and with a return to the Premier League their should be headroom in the additional revenues to help with the associated wage inflation.

It should be remembered that we are also headed for a new generation of FFP type rules - UEFA's new Financial Sustainability regulations being the the marker of the kind of approach that is likely to be taken. It is likely to mean that a combined football cost of around 80% - 85% of revenues will be the limit in the Premier League within a couple of years. - our previous 4 seasons in that league saw us running at over 90%

the easy way to combat this is by growing revenues - under the new ownership the only areas of growth on that from has been directly from the fans and local community (matchday, retail and catering) and following last summers fire sale. player trading. Our return to the Premier League will see some TV revenue growth (each position is up by 10% or so but the club simply must do better commercially with the figures in the last accounts proving very disappointing, being down on the previous year even though fans had returned. It was even further behind the last couple of years of the Garlick reign

I'd think so. It wouldn't be a big fee at all but these young players will leave with sell on clauses and the likes so if any of them do really well there will be more money to come. That's how we got Ben Mee & Kieran Tripper from Man City and at a guess I'd suggest it might have been similar with Aro Muric & CJ Egan-Riley.

I wouldn't include Dwight McNeil - he was just 14 when he joined our centre of excellence. Still two years away from winning a scholarship.

Is this true CP?

Presumably the other route is to invest in ten HoldCo that owns BFC and the money is then used as a cash injection in the club and the corresponding debt owed reduces?

And that’s the route that recent investors like the Watt’s have used to become investors?
