You’d imagine signing Larsen if true would probs spell the end in the interest in Jack Clarke

Would also correlate with what Sacha posted the other day. We have up to 60 targets at any one time and will just move on if one doesn’t progress.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 8:45 amYou’d imagine signing Larsen if true would probs spell the end in the interest in Jack Clarke
I suppose it’s a fine line between getting deals done and compromising on quality - not that you could really say that for the signings we’ve managed to bring through the door since Kompany has come in!

Is Larsen the third of the three you mentioned CT? (Orient keeper being the other)

Isn't Tella starting the final year of his contract? If Burnley don't meet this £15 million demanded and Tella declines any other club's approaches one would suspect that by the end of July or into August Soton may well be prepared to accept significantly less. While Tella is a player who we could integrate into the side without his being fully involved in our pre-season, so not vital to get him signed this week/monthjedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 4:56 pmIf Tella really is available and at £15m I am stunned we're seemingly not pursuing it.

Clearly a talented player who has suffered injury problems (albeit, he played 19 games on loan at Anderlecht after signing in the January window, so had a good spell of fitness there seemingly). I like that we are still a club that takes a calculated punt. I imagine he will be very cheap and it provides us more depth. Still only 24 and has top level experience in Germany and Belgium and 6 caps for Denmark. Why not?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
If the fee is correct then I’d much prefer this to say Nathan Redmond. Both can cover left/right/no.10 but if Larsen can get fit and have a good season with us he will be worth considerably more , therefore fitting the model.
Forgetting the money side of it , he was clearly rated quite highly but injuries have hindered him.
Let’s hope it works out

I think it was last week, Newcastle claret made a great point that maybe we don’t see the value in tella at 15mil, if we want sell on value in 2 years time for example tella will be 25/26 are we going to be able to sell for profit or will clubs be looking at someone younger by then

We don’t have to sell every player and getting Tella and seeing continual improvement with him would be valuable also. With the pace he has he will always be a danger
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'm always a little wary when we sign players who've been highly rated in their youth, but for whatever reason haven't realised their potential. A little like Bastien last year, those players need a run in the team to begin to show what they're capable of, yet they're often brought in as squad players meaning their game time is limited.
Then again, I don't know anything about this Larsen other than what I've just read so I may well have the wrong impression of him.
Let's hope he can make an impact.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
With all the rumours flying about on the media I'm amazed there aren't any rumours about Larsen outside of this forum, they're normally all over even the slightest hint of a signing. Maybe it's another under the radar like O'Shea.

Then again, targeting once-highly rated players who didn’t quite make for whatever reason is how you end up with players like Defour. It’s a gamble but we’re mitigating it by targeting players who are still young enough to have room to grow despite not living up to their potential yet.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 10:55 amI'm always a little wary when we sign players who've been highly rated in their youth, but for whatever reason haven't realised their potential. Even ManU fans have picked up on the fact that Sancho looked a completely different player in that league.
I do wonder whether the pace and intensity of the PL is what causes this rather than anything else?
As you say, let's home he can make a better impact than our more recent signings from that league.

My point is that players like that need game time, and not be brought in a squad player because then it often doesn't work, like Bastien.davideyresleftear wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 11:29 amThen again, targeting once-highly rated players who didn’t quite make for whatever reason is how you end up with players like Defour. If this Scandinavian player does come in and gets the chances Bastien got in the early stages of last season he might grab a regularly first team place

I know nothing of this lad, but I would argue that players of real talent who have lost their way but are still young are amongst the most likely category to make us a return in an era where its otherwusd very hard to find undervalued players who are of the calibre to play I'm the Premier League.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 10:55 amI'm always a little wary when we sign players who've been highly rated in their youth, but for whatever reason haven't realised their potential. I don't disagree. All down to how game time they get though isn't it. They still need to be better than what we've got.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 11:51 amI know nothing of this lad, but I would argue that players of real talent who have lost their way but are still young are amongst the most likely category to make us a return in an era where its otherwusd very hard to find undervalued players who are of the calibre to play I'm the Premier League.

Yes very fair point, although Bastien was getting his minutes in out wide early on the season whilst we concluded the deals for Tella, Benson, and Zaroury. I'm not sure he ever got the chance to play much in his position (not that I'm saying he should have done, we had better options there).

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Don't mind taking a 'punt' on Bruun Larsen for the kind of money being mentioned. Sounds like he has had his injury issues but you would expect the medical tests to show whether he's clear of these before competing any deal.
We probably need 8 or 9 players and they can't all be £15m signings. If by signing the likes of Vigouroux, O'Shea and Bruun Larsen (solid if not spectacular) allows us to then get a Tresor, Tella, Gomez etc then I'm all for it.
We need to strengthen the squad as a whole as well as the starting XI.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
JBG had issues with injuries and staying fit. Kompany and Co appears to have sorted that out … so if Larsen has been injured in past I’m confident we can get him fit and get best out him

If the players who were highly rated at youth level had reached their full potential then they wouldn’t be available for Burnley. It’s a bit like you sign someone and someone says ‘he’s got a mistake in him’ if he didn’t again he would be available for us, muric for example if he was flawless he would still be at cityksrclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2023 10:55 amI'm always a little wary when we sign players who've been highly rated in their youth, but for whatever reason haven't realised their potential. As someone has alluded to already, a cheap deal like this leaves more in the coffers for the big signings we are targeting.

VK has to take a large amount of praise for the way he has taken JBG in and out of the side when necessary.
He can't play three times a week on a regular basis.

Bit of both to be fair. But there is a tendency to credit VK with absolutely everything. It might just be that JBG has had terrible luck with injuries and is now having a decent run. Maybe his luck has turned. I'm sure someone will be along blaming Dyche for JBGs record! I'm not anti VK far from it but it does make me chuckle how he gets credit for absolutely everything because things are going well.

While it’s quiet this weekend might as well express real happiness at JBG’s fitness levels last season.
It would be fantastic if that was the end of his injury problems because this player can be our ‘Milner’

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I would not credit VK for everything. As he has a very good group around him. But def where JBG is concerned … maybe understanding his injuries as a ex player … better conditioning … and playing him and resting him at right time as I think the key to getting more game time from him.
