Complaint from the Aussies
Australia’s management has requested the MCC investigates the incidents in the Long Room at lunch.
“ It is alleged players and staff from the Australian team were verbally abused, with some being physically contacted, as they made their way to lunch through the members area,” a statement says.

This attacking cricket, is making a very good bowling attack look very ordinary.

Aussies invented sledging but clearly don’t like it when it’s aimed at them. I didn’t see any physical contact in the long room but I did see 2 Aussie players square up to members of the crowd. Pitiful

You would think so. It’s the first test though, we should have won that one.

Great to watch Stokes but the likes of Pope Anderson Bairstow and others must be questioning there roles in the team

Re: Ashes Second Test
We certainly should have. Have to say the dismissal.of Bairstow was very much against the spirit of the game and goes a long way to maintaining the 'darker' image people have of Australian cricket. Not healthy for the game but healthy for their bank balanceClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 3:23 pmYou would think so. It’s the first test though, we should have won that one.
And perhaps that is where the problems begin.

Re: Ashes Second Test
Some changes needed for the third test.
We may as well have a few more all rounders in to extend our batting seen as our bowlers haven’t done much

Re: Ashes Second Test
Bairstow wicket was the turning point. Maybe within the laws but hugely controversial and against the spirit of game but Aussies don’t worry about that. I guess it’s in their genes

Would have won first test other than a silly declaration on day one and now losing this one and the Ashes, but that's sport .

Re: Ashes Second Test
We wouldn’t. Had we not declared we would have run out of time so would have drawn it at best. We lost it because their 9th wicket pair scored 54 to win it.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 3:36 pmWould have won first test other than a silly declaration on day one and now losing this one and the Ashes, but that's sport .

Re: Ashes Second Test
Choose the best two batmen, two best fast bowlers, one all rounder, one spinner and the best keeper. Fill in around them. Not sure why the selectors need so many meetings and lunches to select the team.

Sad when Tongue & Jimmy are playing some of the bowling better than Crawley and Pope. Like the first test this was there for us to win

Re: Ashes Second Test
It’s tough - just think that with Jimmy seemingly dropping off a cliff we may as well have someone that will average around 25-30 with the bat…
I’d probably bring Moeen back in and either Sam Curran or Woakes for Anderson.
I like Curran because he’s a left armer and has a different style - brings some variation to our attack
You could argue Wood back in but who for or even Potts? Tongue actually bowled quite well…
Crawley
Duckett
Brook
Pope
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Curran/Woakes
Broad/Robbo/Potts
Tongue
Good batting to 9 there
Not sure what else could be done
