Saints after Diallo too which could be good as it might pave the way for Tella joining us, with them being fairly similar style of players

I’d personally rather signing Diallo, Clarke and Flemming for the around the cost of Tella.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 12:30 pmSaints after Diallo too which could be good as it might pave the way for Tella joining us, with them being fairly similar style of players

Didn't Diallo cost like 40 million, doubt United are looking to sell for anything less than half of that, they will be looking to loan hoping he realises his potential
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Exactly, there’s a suggestion of a Prem / top 5 league loan.Cleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 12:45 pmDidn't Diallo cost like 40 million, doubt United are looking to sell for anything less than half of that, they will be looking to loan hoping he realises his potential

Don't they want more than 10m a piece for Flemming and Clarke?
Clarke 12m, Flemming 10-12m, Diallo loan
Tella 15-20m all in
As I said not exact and merely speculating based on prices alluded to so far in the press.

I’d be very surprised if you could get them 3 for the cost of Tella but personally I’d rather sign Tella based on him looking a far better player than the other 3 last season.
The way I think we will be playing also means we need someone who is super fit and can press with the intensity levels that Tella can. Not sure there was anyone in the championship last year as good as he was at doing this.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Think there’s a balance between signing loads of youngsters that may (or may not) 2-4x the initial outlay VS signing players tray can do a job for a few seasons.
I have every faith in the recruitment team but I do feel like we’re trying to be a bit to clever with some of the links/signings.
For example, this Coulibaly chap might turn into a star - but is he right now providing an impact the same as signing Tella up would do?
Leeds & Southampton tried to be a bit to clever with their signings and it bit them on the arse.
With 4/5 weeks to go till the start of the season, our midfield and forward/winger area is looking quite threadbare, if honest.
I’m not saying that signing a Trafford or Coulibaly would necessarily make us miss out on a Tella or another winger/forward/midfielder - but if given the option of signing Trafford/Coulibaly and Tella + winger + midfielder I know what I’d be choosing.
Remember- staying in the PL gives a far better return than selling a 20 mill outlay for 40-50

Then 3 salaries to fund. They would cost a minimum of double Tella.

Just been doing some reading on Coulibaly - turned down a whole host of clubs including Man U, Barcelona and PSG to go to Dortumund. Let's hope he clicks here - could be a fantastic signing.

If they were each valued at 15 Mill, I'd still want Tella.
Fleming would be useful, but I'm not bothered about the other 2.
Clarke seems to be over priced imo, and Diallo has as many average games as good.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Fair enough. I think Clarke having more goal contributions than Zaroury last season is interesting, while Diallo was bought by United for £37m and Mackems know he’s a level above them this season. From what I’ve seen of them both last season I think they’d be two excellent additions to our squad.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 3:18 pmIf they were each valued at 15 Mill, I'd still want Tella.

Last season he scored some brilliant goals imo he would be a steal at £15m
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don’t see a thread but we have signed Soumaïla Coulibaly on loan with option to buy if 15 million euro
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Not disagreeing with that
But I am also wondering why we are prepared to pay similar monies for two inexperienced young kids
Beginning to wonder how much is left in the kitty for a LB, CM and at least one front man
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Coulibaly is £15m total package and isn’t until next summer.
The clever thing about this deal is that it doesn’t affect this summers budget at all.

Don't worry too much about our kitty. VK and Alan will be in sync about our transfer dealings. We'll all know the answers when the window closes. Just get your feet up and watch our new keeper. Kick off in one hour.

Did you watch the games ?
I don’t understand why you would raise points like this about a player who has had just a great season for Burnley. It’s the first time in his career he has been given any real chance to start games consistently. You can tell from the start of the season when VK was substituting him after 60 / 65 minutes that he was managing his minutes because he had played so little at Southampton. He developed and grew stronger and fitter during the season and I don’t think there was a burnley player as fit as him in the second half of the year. None of this happened at Southampton where for whatever reason he was only ever a bit part player.

Totally get your argument that he hasn’t done it in the past, was he playing in more of a 4-4-2 at saints so not able to get in behind as much? Also coming off his best season full of confidence. But I still wouldn’t pay £15mil for tella, if we could sign Clarke and flemming for £20mil I’d have those 2Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 3:41 pmI like tella but I don’t get that argument. It's a narrow margin, but I agree. I'm still hopeful we can get him for 15m. If there were other interested parties we should have heard by now. Saints might have been hoping for a bidding war. Nothing is guaranteed but you never know.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2023 3:43 pmFair enough. BURNLEY REACH AGREEMENT WITH BORUSSIA DORTMUND TO SIGN SOUMAÏLA COULIBALY
L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi reports this morning that newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Soumaïla Coulibaly on loan with a purchase option of €15m.
Coulibaly joined Borussia Dortmund from PSG in 2021, signing his first professional contract but has played just 61 minutes across two games for Die Schwarzgelben, one in the Champions League and the other in the Bundesliga. A prominent figure in BVB’s second team, the Frenchman played 25 games, and also played four games in the UEFA Youth League.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
whilst his previous unsuccessful spell in the PL should affect his price a little it’s pretty obvious why a young kid who barely started a game wasn’t a roaring successful goal machine in the odd 10 minutes here and there.
I think £12-15m is a fair price and hopefully we’re working on that deal in the background. Id love him back for slight sentimental reasons but also I think he could be a good player for us at a higher level. Credit to the club he was, young kid never stopped smiling, gave his absolute all and remained professional in the media. There’s a reason the fans loved him.

Purchase OPTION is in that wording.
Much better for us if that’s the case. If hes class, sign him up, if he’s crap, say goodbye. If we get relegated but he’s still class, sign him then sell him.

Tella’s previous experience in this league is largely irrelevant. What system were they playing? What role did he play? How many times did he start? We know he suits us and the way we play - it feels about as risk free as you could hope for a transfer (as the absolute bare minimum, we know that if we get relegated he is a game changer in that league).
