Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
Flights to Frankfurt are more expensive than i thought they would be.
Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
Only flights from Manchester are with Lufthansa so generally pretty expensive. You could try Cologne which is 90 minutes or so by train1989_claret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 12:04 pmFlights to Frankfurt are more expensive than i thought they would be.

Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
Will have to sit this one out with Genk and Betis booked unfortunately although this and Benfica would have probably been the better ones too which is a shame.
Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
40 minutes train journey for me, so I'm very happy about this1989_claret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 12:12 pmWill have to sit this one out with Genk and Betis booked unfortunately although this and Benfica would have probably been the better ones too which is a shame.

Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Germany pre-season games.... a far cry from the old days of the Isle of Man Tournament...

Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
Interesting wording on the Mainz website regarding the format of the game:
The game will kick off at 3:30pm and will be played over 2 halves of 45 minutes each and another 30 minutes.

Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
Lads if you do travel to this game and need public transport we found that the €49 deal for a month traveling within Germany on 2nd class transport was very good . We came back from Germany yesterday and it only took us a day and a half to use up the whole value of the deal .

I have one of these "Deutschland Ticket", it's very good.Tribesmen wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 12:35 pmLads if you do travel to this game and need public transport we found that the €49 deal for a month traveling within Germany on 2nd class transport was very good . How did you find cancelling the subscription? I've heard varying success stories depending on who you use to set it up.

Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
This last game has rubbed salt into my wounds
. Couldn't make other games with working, so decided to watch my German team, Union Berlin. I'm flying to Berlin Saturday 5th August to watch them v Atalanta, back on the Sunday afternoon.
It's about 5 hours on train from Berlin to Mainz, does anyone know if there's a late entry turnstile

Gone for a hotel by the Haptbahnhof. Should be out and about by lunchtime so hope to meet up with some other clarets and head to the ground

Yer Mrs Tribes was in charge of things and she had to cancel before the 10th of the month so we bought it on the 2nd of July and cancelled on the 10th no problem as long as you follow their instructions . Now we could use it until the end of the month .

Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
Loving the quality of these final pre season games.
I know results are meaningless at this time, but it will be a good examination of our qualities for the new season.

In Mainz or Frankfurt?ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 1:48 pmGone for a hotel by the Haptbahnhof. Should be out and about by lunchtime so hope to meet up with some other clarets and head to the ground
Mainz is quite a hip city, has a big student population. There's a load of bars near the cathedral, they will be buzzing on a Saturday afternoon. There is also a bit going on by the Rhein with pop up bars and food stalls.
The only downside is the ground is out of town, but you can get the tram up there from the Hauptbahnhof.

Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
We went to Frankfurt at the 2006 World Cup.We stayed in Amsterdam and hired a car to Frankfurt and back so there should be loads of options I'd think.
Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
Aye was going to say the area round the Hbf in Frankfurt is, erm interesting to say the least!ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 4:54 pmMainz. Makes the most sense with it being direct link from the airport too
Mainz is about 20 mins on the S Bahn from the airport and they are very frequent.

Lufthansa PRG-FRA then S Bahn to MainzCallumCalrets wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 7:18 pmWhoever is going to the game what mode of transport will you be using i at unsure on best and cheapest way to travel there
(Admittedly, probably not much help, but you asked)
Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
Most direct route is flight from MAN to FRA, then an S-Bahn from the airport to Mainz. Looking at £330 return on Skyscanner with Lufthansa.CallumCalrets wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 7:18 pmWhoever is going to the game what mode of transport will you be using i at unsure on best and cheapest way to travel there
Might be cheaper looking at a flight to Cologne, then a train from there to Mainz.
If you do go to Frankfurt, make sure you go to Frankfurt International Airport and not Frankfurt Hahn which is about 2 hours away
Re: ARTICLE: Pre-season to end at Mainz
I'm mostly a lurker here but I just grabbed 3 tickets myself too to drag the wife and a mate from work along, used to live in Frankfurt but I'm now out in the Riedstadt area so it'd be rude not to!
See you lot there!
