Charlie Austin scored 28 in 2012-2013
I suspect you mean in the top flight though

Re: Tella
What impressed me most about Tella last season was how clinical he was in front of goal. When he got chances, he stayed calm and finished. We currently don't have a better finisher at the club. He's not irreplaceable, but he's technically better than a few are giving him credit for. His physicality is lacking a bit, but hes a lot more than a pacey wide man

Re: Tella
I'd love to sign him, but the fact he looked so good for us does rather suggest that Southampton have gone "Crikey, we never realised he was so good" and slapped a big transfer price on himwillsclarets wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 8:35 pmWhat impressed me most about Tella last season was how clinical he was in front of goal. Southamptons chairman has put a big transfer price on all their saleable assets saying they don’t need the money , we’ll see.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 8:45 pmI'd love to sign him, but the fact he looked so good for us does rather suggest that Southampton have gone "Crikey, we never realised he was so good" and slapped a big transfer price on him

Re: Tella
Yeah can't blame them tbh! There's also the premier league club premium now, so all in all getting players in is a tougher ask. Lots of excellent names being banded about, just hope we get a few over the line this week.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 8:45 pmI'd love to sign him, but the fact he looked so good for us does rather suggest that Southampton have gone "Crikey, we never realised he was so good" and slapped a big transfer price on him

Re: Tella
I feel sorry for Tella, a victim of his own success last season. MIght end up playing for a crap team in the Championship instead of in the Premier League with us where he deserves to be. When I see what we are prepared to pay for Trafford and Coulibaly I'm surprised that we aren't prepared to pay similar money for two players who were massive for us last season. I could be wrong and there might be more to it than just money and neither of their managers want to lose them, only time will tell.

Or could be simply that the club feel like they could double or triple their money in future due to the age of TraffordFirthy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 7:35 amI feel sorry for Tella, a victim of his own success last season. Re: Tella
Maybe agent talk but Mirrors Daniel Witcoop says we’re being priced out of Tella so Burnley are now looking at cheaper alternatives and view Nathan Redmond, out of contract this summer, as a good option.
Redmond spent last term at Turkish giants Besiktas, but his deal has expired and he is considering his options.

Re: Tella
It's not beyond the imagination that Tella arrives at Turf Moor in a month's time for a far more realistic fee than is being quoted.
Can't blame Southampton for casting the net...we'd do the same...negligent not to tbh.
Player power would generally suggest that Tella will be playing PL football next season at his preferred destination.

He looked good for us in our systems, as a 2nd striker with a free role or wide striker in a 3.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 8:45 pmI'd love to sign him, but the fact he looked so good for us does rather suggest that Southampton have gone "Crikey, we never realised he was so good" and slapped a big transfer price on him
He's not a winger and not a sole striker.
There's already mumblings of him not suiting how Southampton play.

We must sign Tella. To me, the cheaper option of either Redmond or Townsend is ridiculous.

Carried is a bit extreme, he tired after a long season without rest levels above where he's been before and was being marked by two men which freed up space for players like Benson.
He's only 22

If Martin doesn't want to use that system that suits him, then why would they keep him?

Re: Tella
Swansea tried to play a similar game to us, their possession stats show that, they just didn't have the weaponry we had.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 11:02 amYeah, that might well be what finally sorts this out

I expect Saints to play a similar style to Swansea, in which case Tella would be good for them.
I saw something silly pop up on a site yesterday, showing the 20 most valuable players in the championship. 7 of them were Saints players, all young, I hadn't heard of any of them. All valued between 20 and 28 million. Add that to the experience of Ward-Prowse, Adams etc and you wonder how they ever got relegated

They spent a lot of money last summer on youngsters, and none have justified the fees. Their chairman seems to think that the money doesn't matter, who knows how long that will last, but probably too late for us to get Nathan this window.

Southampton fans are delusional - not many could work out what system they actually were playing last season.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 10:11 am

Re: Tella
This may be a bit of a long shot but I can't see Tella on Southampton's recent social media posts.
With today's telletubbies video announcement lacking context, could we be building up to announcing Tella?
One can hope.

But possibly they had that idea lined up for Tella Tubbies but used it as it wasn’t needed
Sorry
