Pretty outstanding assist by Maatsen last night. Fair play.

Wonder if Kompany is still on at City and Gomez. Knows the system, knows the manager etc.
Yes, brilliant assist.

Fingers crossed Gomez is still on the cards!

Southampton have reportedly rejected the opening bid of 9 & value him double that 18 expecting an improved bid maybe meeting in the middle, if "the price will be close to £9" the bid would have been accepted today or at least negotiations would be underway without the rejection, there's no evidence he's unhappy or would "stink the place out", you are correct with nobody else appears to be interested in him.
All that might be true but it's not how negotiations work.
If you agree that no one else wants him then his price continually drops - if they need to sell.
Just look what happened to Brereton D down the M65. They continually held out for an unrealistic valuation (i.e. one that no one was prepared to match), and after a couple of years he made a pre-contractual agreement elsewhere and they got nothing for him.
I'm not claiming to be ITK, or that we will get him for 9m, but I do believe he will eventually come here, and clearly the longer the window goes on then the stronger hand we have - unless another club comes in for him at an inflated price.

I still think it’s kidology from Pochetino re Maatsen. He’s hardly going to say he’s unhappy with him, is he?!

Look at how many first team players are missing from these teams Chelsea are putting out. Maatsen hasn’t played at all at LB and has been playing in a more advanced role. Can anyone really see him playing that more advanced role for them in the PL with all the good players they have for that position?

Weird the Maatsen looks like he might be cementing a role in Chelsea’s line up. A few on here didn’t think we should sign him due to his supposed frailties.
Lets not get carried away with Maatsen's pre season performances just yet. He was brilliant for us last year and I liked him, but the pressure in top 6 PL clubs is immense and Chelsea have a huge talented squad. Once the season starts he will do well to be close to the first team

Ian Maatsen was great for us and if he gets in the Chelsea team good luck to him.I believe Chelsea will struggle again and Poch will walk by Christmas ad Arsenal are now the dominant team in London

What makes you think Poch who stayed at Spurs for about 5 years and also managed to get PSG to come 2nd in the French league will walk out on Chelsea by Christmas ?

Southampton don't need to sell & Southampton want to get promoted as soon as possible. If you bid close to a figure you usually get a counter offer or some signs/indication that you are somewhere close. From the sounds of it 9 is nowhere close even if Southampton wanted to sell.

According to the Times today, Pochettino says that his squad is unbalanced and needs to be reduced. He specifically mentions the fact that they have 4 left backs, so all hope may not be lost.

Some 'fans' booed Weghorst even though he's still a claret 🤯
I assume these 'fans' will also be booing Mee, Tarky etc. as they all jumped ship when we got relegated 😉

but that was in a LB position - if anyone here had suggested push further forward they would have been told how little they know the game of football!

those decrying his performances have all said - good going forward - suspect at the back

Would love us to get Hamer but I'm guessing that ship has sailed now.

Pochettino: “So far, Ian Maatsen is in my plan. I am so happy with him, can play in different positions”.
“He is a clever player, I am so pleased with him so far”,
He also said today that he still needs to let quite a few players go, squad way to big and will have a lot of unhappy players if he doesn't trim it down so still ore to leae Hes not played LB yet - So will Poch get rid of the wide left players he has and keep Maatsen or is he putting him in the shop window - since poor little Burnley seem the only ones interested - just a thought

I’m wondering if they might try and cash in on Cucurella?

Although getting what they paid will be hard work.

Cynical me is pretty sure that Chelsea will play Maatsen as often as possible till he signs a new contract, then he'll be loaned out

Its up to Maatsen really - he probably needs to leave to guarantee first team football and he's still a very young player with his entire career ahead of him, so you'd think him and his representatives will see through what Chelsea are doing

As an all round player, Lewis Hall would be a much better option than Maatsen if we had the chance of both

Didn't Arteta do something similar with AMN?
Promised him lots more playing time if he stayed and then barely played him?

Same with Chelsea and Hudson-Odoi

Arteta had an interesting interview yesterday. He said their squad is up to 30 players now and they quickly need to trim it down to 25.

I suspect things might start moving quickly with Lokonga

I think the list includes Townsend and Larsen. So 3 more on top of that, probably a midfielder, left back and winger.

As for outgoings, I can see McNally, Bastien and Churlinov (if he's fit) leaving. Personally wouldn't move anyone else out.

In the perfect world we probably do, 2 CM's, 1 LB, 1 CB, 1 ST

Can see all of Bastien, Churlinov, Taylor and Mcnally all leaving. Id also heard for a long time Rodriguez would be off to the MLS although this has gone quiet.

I can’t see us spending much more than another £20 maybe £30 million.
Centre midfield is the obvious spot to sign a big money player. Left back needs attention and then it’s wether we can secure tella and any potential loans to cover centre back and right back.
5 more isn’t unrealistic but I would imagine that requires 2 or 3 of our own going out on loan.

Lokonga is currently injured. This would make the medical awkward. Can’t see much happening until he is fit again. Possibly why it is quiet on that front.

Our current first team squad, from CTs players page. Just to save people flicking back and forward. Pretty obvious plenty need to go but we are triply covered in most positions.

Medicals can be passed if a player is injured. For example, Nahki Wells did that while signing for us.

you clearly haven't seen him play then, he was excellent against Newcastle
No, I didn't watch that. A pre-season friendly between Chelsea and Newcastle on late at night in the UK didn't really appeal.

So based on his performances you fully expect Maatsen to start in an advanced position when the PL begins? Ahead of Mudryk, Sterling, Nkunku, Madueke et al (plus any further signings Chelsea will probably make between now and then)

he played in that team last night with Mudryk and Nkunku and didn't look out of place. He might not start every game but could easily be in their 25. He's taking his chance that's for sure

...heard for a long time Rodriguez would be off to the MLS although this has gone quiet.
I can't see anyone over there matching Jay-Rod's current salary; i don't envisage him playing much, but suspect that he'll be on the books until next summer; at best maybe someone will take him on loan and fund at least part of his wages for the year.
