I just thought instead of posters having back and fourths to just wait until we have seen the documentary. Are you going to watch the documentary btw?Spiral wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 3:56 pmHuman beings are capable of forming judgements on events that are hypothetical but have not yet happened. The entire concept of a thought experiment rests on this idea. We do it so often, almost daily, and so trivially, that it goes unremarked. Your point (and the same point made by others) can be condensed to the idea that you want to defer judgement. You have that right, but recognise that you are asking that of me. You're attempting to plead with the 'heretic'. The way this is expressed by some on here has the mark of the phenomenon I spelled out in the post you quoted. The demand to reserve judgement is a defence of the church. Anyone NOT of this disposition, this state of mind, this religious sentiment (expressed through football) would, I highly suspect, be more relaxed about my judgement, so uninterested in putting up a defence of the church that they'd be not remotely inclined to bother attacking my point at all. It is precisely because people on here are so full of this sentimentality I describe that their rebuttals are so passionate, it is precisely because of this sentimentality that they plead with me/demand I defer judgement, because this premature judgement is believed to harm the church. At this moment, this is the most convenient ground on which to reject what I'm saying, but please do understand that it springs from the sentiment I describe. I think some people who place themselves above religion would be slightly embarrassed to find out they are still being led by a sublimated religious sentiment that exists in all people (even me).

How can anybody form an opinion on Mormonism? Surely we should all wait until the second coming of Jesus Christ and until then just be excited about it.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 3:36 pmYou are entitled to say people need to be wary of how the documentary is portrayed but isn’t it better for everyone to actually watch the documentary first to see the final outcome of it all before making comments. Wouldn’t leaving it at be vigilant be better than having back and fourths with people.
I’m sure if people watch it and don’t like the way the documentary comes across then people will come back on here and say you had a point.
End of the day we as fans are getting to see nearly 4 hours worth of behind the scenes stuff that we would never normally get to see, so until it’s be on we should just be excited about it

That doesn’t mean that things that I deem inappropriate can be glossed over because of the aforementioned positives.
I won’t go into it much further but I’m highly skeptical of any cross promotion of religion like this - it’s a sly tactic and I think Spiral is accurate in his assessment.

BTW I'm posting my views like everyone else on this public forum. I'm not going out of my way to have back and forths with people. The appearance of a back and forth as being something bigger than its parts is what arises when people state their views, but I'm essentially doing no different to anyone else on this thread.

Imagine thinking it makes more sense to judge something before seeing it, then tell others who are willing to watch it first how they should conduct themselves.

Discussing a transfer is completely different, but if you are saying a player isn’t good enough for us before seeing them play for us then you could make the same argument then.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 4:13 pmI hope those that encourage us to wait and see before passing any judgement also avoid from speculating about any possible transfers/team lineups/tactics etc

I didn't say that getting to see behind the scenes of the club we support isn't exciting. There seems to be a lot of people on here arguing against people for things they haven't said.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 4:26 pmWhat’s not exciting about getting to see behind the scenes of the club we all support?

Re: Mission to Burnley
It was just a joke - basically you said that people should just be excited until they've seen the documentary - suggesting that people shouldn't really be able to speculate about the rather obvious theme of the documentary until they've seen it. I don't agree with the idea that we shouldn't be able to speculate about things until they've happened so I made a lighthearted joke about how we should all wait until the second coming of Jesus Christ before casting an opinion on Mormonism.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 4:34 pmWhat point were you trying to make then about me saying it’s exciting getting to behind the scenes. Maybe we're not quite ready for a takeover by gay-hanging, journalist-murdering Arab billionaires just yet. We're already getting into a tizz about a chairman with some fairly harmless if ludicrously eccentric beliefs, and the possibility he might talk about them on telly.

Spiral - "To spell it out clearly, my issue (to be honest it's not so much an issue as a warning to be vigilant) is with Burnley FC being yoked into a religious film without any fan consent."
That's a lot of posts of varying pomposity for such a simple issue. I'm not sure how you garner the opinion of the Fans let alone the consent. How do we do this? Meanwhile I shall stay vigilant.

I also don’t believe that they’re harmless beliefs either but that’s a different debate and will more than likely get the thread locked.

The latest teaser they just released doesn’t feature the chairman or board. It’s all about Vince & the team. Maybe each episode will have a different focus.
