Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Hamer would be unreal signing if we are still in for him.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Not sure how much we may have offered for Hamer but looking at the match today feel we should go in again and include player exchange of people like Bastien, Cork or Vitinho, even Twine or Brownhill if it helps
As RV observed, he is way above any of our current players
Dewsbury Hall also looking good for Leicester

Then why do we pay 14-17 million for a position that was not a priority ? We will play almost the same way as last season maybe a tweak here and there and Muric was as big a part of that then most players. That's why if you did a poll on here which player to spend 14-17 million on as priority to what we need between :
Tella
Hamer
Clarke
Mateson
Fleming
Tresor
Trafford
Trafford would be bottom

How do you know that having another starting quality keeper was not a priority for the management team? We can have all the polls we like on here, we’re not the ones running the team.kenyon6923 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 1:40 pmThen why do we pay 14-17 million for a position that was not a priority ? We’ve been spoilt with two excellent keepers over the last 10 years. Both of them got season ending injuries at various times.

Dewsbury-Hall and Hamer would improve us hugely.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We need 2 quality keepers. Trafford has only been selected as our starting keeper on here. VK knows who will start. The expectation is that with development Traffords price will soar. A lot of money but hopefully not a waste of money.
You don’t buy players in order of need you buy players you can get as and when they become available at a price you are willing to pay.

I was commenting on who , how and when players should be bought, and if you're struggling to grasp that, let me clear it up....in my opinion it should be decided by the manager, and not a poll on here.

Cork: We are already desperately short on experience, as well as numbers in midfield.
Vitinho: Every team needs a utility player and he's practically the only one we have!
Twine: Everyone and his dog knows how much VK and the coaching team rate him and there's absolutely zero chance he goes out permanently this season!
Brownhill: Do you honestly think he'd drop down a division?

You have a point with Bastien though but I still think there would be little chance of him going there... He will most likely go abroad.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I do remember in the early weeks of speculation regarding Lokonga , it was said he wanted to go to Spain. But with the past relationship with VK you would have expected his interest in signing for VK would have been a formality, but clearly not.
I would assume that the delay now is that nobody else has come in for him but VK hadn’t given up hope. Therefore it must be looking very unlikely now even though the clubs seemed to have agreed a deal, there is only such much messing around a player can do.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Realistically, you'd imagine the challenge with Lokonga would be wages on a permanent deal should the obligation to buy be triggered. This is a player Arsenal signed for 17m as a first team squad member and his wages will reflect that. You'd imagine our wage structure would struggle a bit with that and some creativity might be needed to bridge the gap.

Burnley have joined the race for Brazilian midfield sitter Vinicius Souza.
The Clarets are struggling to land targets like Sabri Lokonga at Arsenal and have explored the idea of Souza.
Souza is available and has also been linked with Sheffield United. He qualifies for a permit after his time with Lommel in Belgium and Espanyol in Spain.
Burnley may commit if they can agree terms. Lokong is proving elusive and Vincent Kompany wants extra midfield options by the kick off.
Clarets are also waiting for Aston Villa to sort out their side of the deal for Aaron Ramsey.

So, which goalkeeper would you have signed for less money who would be PL standard and also be a potential investment?kenyon6923 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 1:40 pmThen why do we pay 14-17 million for a position that was not a priority ?
A 2nd keeper was always a top priority.
Let's just imagine that we stayed with the 3 keepers from last season: Muric, BPF and Norris.
Muric is first choice, and the day after the transfer window closes he gets a long-term injury.
I bet you would have been posting that we should have signed a 2nd PL standard keeper during the window.
We need two good PL standard players in every position, and esp. in goal, since we can't tweak the formation or play someone else out of position to replace a keeper. A keeper is a keeper - whereas there's some flexibility in other positions.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I don't think it's wildly unreasonable for anyone to express suprise and some reservations about spending 15m or so on what may well be (initially) a substitute keeper, particularly when a maturer head might have been the natural compliment to the rather inexperienced Muric. It is certainly fair to observe it is a significant chunk of our (assumed) summer budget, that having 2 inexperienced keepers has worked put badly for other clubs in the past, and that we had other more obvious candidates for 15m signings.
Kompany has earned the right, but he's still inexperienced himself and I hope someone who has experience of being in the bottom 3rd of the Premier League is acting as a critical friend to say "are you sure?" at times this summer.
That said, Trafford apart I'm not sure there's anything especially eyebrow raising about our business this summer. Amdouni, O'Shea and Beyer feel pretty logical and plausible for substantial outlays, and the other 3 wide players are relatively cheap beer. It's just unfortunate we've not been able to replace Maatsen yet, or strengthen in midfield where we're obviously short, or recruit Tella. But was never going to be easy.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Met an Ajax fan on my travels a few years ago. Kept in touch. This is what he said about Daramy this morning.
Ha, Daramy to Burnley, I read about it. They are talking about 17 million euro.
At Ajax we can't believe that we will get 17 million! We are really proud of our director.
He doesn't fit in our squad. He needs space to run and our opponents never give space. His first touch and his technique isn't what we are used to with our players.
Last year he played on loan at Copenhagen. The supporters there were really excited about him. This pre season he had to convince the trainer in a couple of matches, but he didn't.
It's the same with Bassey who went to Fulham. In Ajax he was really bad, but I think Bassey and Daramy can make it in England.

He will need assurances that Villa can't offer him less favorable terms because they have first option on him in the future.
It's a crucial point, and probably not easy to agree on.

What happens if he gets suspended, taking into account referees are going to be red hot on time wasting.
In the prem you need top quality cover, and you also need the competition to make players push themselves harder for a starting spot.
Muric is a starter, he deserves it, but Trafford is still a great buy.
Knowing what we need in other areas, shouldn't detract from the deals we've managed to get done.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Isn't that exactly the reason why it's a bit of a sticking point?123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sun Aug 06, 2023 5:21 pmHow does either club or player know what will be classed as a good salary in potentially 3/4 years time though?
No one knows how he might progress, what he might be worth, or how the transfer market might look, but obviously he will need some kind of assurance that they can't have him back on a lower wage than another club might be prepared to pay him at that point.
I would imagine that other clubs and agents will have encountered this issue before though.
