How does either club or player know what will be classed as a good salary in potentially 3/4 years time though?
They don't. I'm not sure why you are struggling with the concept of a player looking after his best interests.
Just to add, it may not just be about his salary. He may want some sort right to veto the buy-back.

Would not be surprised to see THB back with us before the window closes. And got a feeling our transfer record is soon to be smashed for a midfielder. And don’t rule out Maatsen coming back either. And no, I am not in the know.

It’s the clubs the set the buy back price not the player

Isn't that exactly the reason why it's a bit of a sticking point?
No one knows how he might progress, what he might be worth, or how the transfer market might look, but obviously he will need some kind of assurance that they can't have him back on a lower wage than another club might be prepared to pay him at that point.
I would imagine that other clubs and agents will have encountered this issue before though.
Which is why I can’t understand the point of him and Villa sorting it out, buy back clauses are between clubs, clubs agree a buy back fee and then the club buying back speak to the player like they would a normal transfer

It is part of the transfer negotiation which the player will be part of and need to agree to before he signs. Are you new to this?

Why the need for the sarcy comments, the clubs agree a buy back clause, it Villa then trigger the buy back fee then Villa discuss terms with Ramsey like they would any other transfer.
They don’t discuss squad role, personal terms or anything else potentially 2 or 3 users before it’s happening

One presumes a player agrees in advance to a buy back fee, and the attendant terms within it.
Anything else would make him a hostage to fortune. It must be a very complex negotiation.

If I were the player I'd want a minimum wage offer inserted, probably reflecting the salary Burnley are offering and the proportion by which the buy back is greater than the initial purchase price. If I were the club I might want a maximum wage demand to set an expectation the club cannot be held to ransom.
These are big deals and correspondingly complicated these days.

Nixon:
Burnley have joined the race for Brazilian midfield sitter Vinicius Souza.
The Clarets are struggling to land targets like Sabri Lokonga at Arsenal and have explored the idea of Souza.
Souza is available and has also been linked with Sheffield United. He qualifies for a permit after his time with Lommel in Belgium and Espanyol in Spain.
Burnley may commit if they can agree terms. Lokong is proving elusive and Vincent Kompany wants extra midfield options by the kick off.
Clarets are also waiting for Aston Villa to sort out their side of the deal for Aaron Ramsey.
This guy was a monster defensive midfielder in Belgium for Mechelen, not sure how he did last year in La Liga. Another City group player who they just seem to loan around. I’m not convinced by Lokonga anyway, think he’s looked awful in the PL, proper deer in headlights, I don’t see what other fans see.

Denis Cirkin looks a decent shout at Sunderland
Good in the tackle and quick Trippieresce in stature with similar distribution skills.

He came through at spurs, I’m sure Sunderland got him similar time they got Clarke

Haha saying Burnley were faves this morning but sheff united now, the way I’ve just read it is that the player is waiting for our offer as he would rather come to us and if we don’t offer the same or better then he goes to sheff united
But I could be reading it all wrong

Sounds like agreeing the deal with his club isn’t the issue think he mentioned 8 million fee. Just whoever offers best terms to the player I think but don’t think we’ve offered anything yet

Yeah don’t know anything about him, but a 6ft2 CDM to play alongside Cullen would enable us to play with a very attack minded number 10

Watched a quick YouTube video of him playing in Belgium looks decent but most of the links always look good on YouTube so we will see

Presumably he's not top of our hit list but is on it, and ideally we'd turn to him if and when others do not come off but Sheff U have stolen a march. Sounds as though a few things may now have to reach a head.

Reading between the lines it sounds very much like Burnley need to start making some firm decisions about who they would like. Lots of interest in different players but time to start ‘pushing the button’ on a few now.

Certainly in terms of that midfield , where we are looking weak...bizarre that we havent strengthened in this vital part of the squad

How'd you reckon it works? Pace on WhatsApp with Souza's agent? Souza's agent on a Zoom call from the back of the car on an A road between Sheffield and Burnley? Would love to be a fly on the wall.

This reflects why though...do you wait for your top target and hope it comes off or settle for a player less ambitious, who you might get earlier/at all?
Lokonga is an ambitious target. This lad clearly more achievable. Presumably VK really sees something in Lokonga. Tricky balance.

I wouldn't say it's 'bizarre' - we're clearly trying to get deals over the line, but it has to be the right player and, these days, they can be so complicated, what with potential obligations to buy, sell on fees etc, it's not an easy task. Never mind agents holding out for better deals to come in. We're fishing in busier ponds now, and the big boys are right next to us. It's all very well picking up Benson on a cut price deal out of the blue, but when you move a level up, everything is more difficult.

I think the Luton game being postponed has given us a little bit of breathing space, once we play City we have sixteen days till we play Villa and a lot of time on the training ground.

Not even sure they're comparable at all, Souza is a big physical defensive midfielder, wins alot of duels/tackles. What exactly is Lokonga? I'd say more of a box to box player, more headless chicken energetic than calm and technical. More In the Brownhill mould than Cullen. VK will have been ultra impressed with Souza from his time in Belgium, one of the best midfielders in the league the year before last.
In Lokonga there's someone he's previously worked with who's clearly lost his way and looked out of his depth in England so far. I do wonder what fans on here see in Lokonga that's so impressive though, personally I'd have Aaron Ramsey all day long ahead of him. I'd have Ramsey ahead of Hamer too but only because he's 5/6 years younger.
I think Ramsey would be the alternative to Lokonga not Souza based on playstyles.

Interestingly Vinicious Souza made the KRBFC scouting list 1 year ago, Flemming on there too before he went to Millwall.
''I was hoping for Zirkzee, Vinicius Souza, Amuzu, Vrioni, Verschaeren, Sergio Gomez, Muleka, Flemming, Szymanksi types, more established young players around Europe who've performed very well and might cost £5-10m.'

Crying out for someone in the profile of Souza.
I’d absolutely love to get both Souza and Hamer - Hamer is absolutely PL quality.
Hopefully loan a left back and get these two in or two in like that and I’ll be feeling a lot more confident of our success this season.
As it stands we’re so light in the middle…
Reading between the lines Lokonga thinks he’s too big for us or has outrageous wage demands so I’d bin him.

KRBFCs scouting list is completely formulated playing football manager and seeing which players are loosely in our price range that Sports Interactive have deemed to be decent/have potential

I wonder if it was a case of one or the other with Odobert and Daramy?
Hopefully we can get a centre mid or two and a left back this week and that would be us done I think (although, if Weghorst is leaving I really do think we need a taller/line leading striker as an option too personally).
