Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Gnonto impressed me loads every time I watched Leeds last season. He didn’t get a lot of goals (4 in all comps) but was such a threat and looked a ludicrously talented player for 19 - great attitude as well, proper workhorse. I can fully see him in our team, he’d suit it down to the ground. Far too expensive for us though - even with Taylor as a potential makeweight I reckon they’d understandably want £20m plus.
Interesting thought higher up though about him possibly having a loan release clause - that would be a canny bit of business.

The club has shown an exceptional 14 months in player recruitment. It now needs to demonstrate it can manage our costs effectively. From players brought in its clear a number will no longer feature and time to sell ideally, or failing that loan out and get them off the wage bill. Jay, Cork, Taylor, Bastian, Weghorst, JBG all need to be moved on. Some will feel we need their experience but you need to have that in your starting 11, not from the bench, and Cullen, Brownhill, and hopefully Berge can provide this. All the above will be our biggest wage earners in the club

Berge addition would be great - he's a class player with room foor further development

Im sure Ive read all Leeds players , once they were relegated, are entitled to leave on loan if a club matches their wages. Several of them have already left this way over the summer.jedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:28 amGnonto impressed me loads every time I watched Leeds last season. In the current market Charlie Taylor a proven Premier league left back has to be worth North of £10m

Only a premier league club could afford that and not a single club is even remotely interested.
You’re worth what someone’s willing to pay. In this circumstance Leeds might stretch to 3-4m

He's currently worth more than that to us, considering he is the only lb we have gotNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:51 amThat is a crazy valuation.

Unless you count Roberts as a lb
Sam Byrom just gone to Leeds so maybe CT no longer required by them

In theory, given his experience, he should be worth more. But you are right, he is only worth what anyone is willing to pay and if there is only one interested party, it's a buyer's market.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:51 amThat is a crazy valuation.

Suspect only Everton might be remotely interested from the PL. If any interest it will be from the Championship or below, in which case it will be under £5m

In his most recent season in the PL we were relegated and he did not have a great season - albeit he had a few injuries.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:43 amIn the current market Charlie Taylor a proven Premier league left back has to be worth North of £10m
Last season he was 3rd choice left back for us - and I know that’s because of the way VK plays but it’s also the way a lot of premier league teams choose to use their full backs too.
If we got £3m for him I’d be happy. He cost us only £7m and he’s been a good player for the club and served us well.
For a club like Leeds fear that wages could be the stumbling block. They have a lot of crap players on a lot of money and I’m not sure the new owners will want to increase their wage bill without getting rid of some of their high earners. But like all clubs that are relegated they will have the issue that the high earning under performers few teams will want to touch and the better players they won’t want to lose as it’s their best chance of going back up. And then they have the likes of Bamford who will be earning a fortune and now appears to be made out of glass.

If you’re looking to offload a player then their value takes an immediate massive hit.

If there’s a potential outgoing that’s not already wout then you’d assume it being benson, if a big club has come in for him will be hard for benson to say no

The potential outgoing was a left back wasn't it? I think we could see both Taylor and Dodgson leave.

Always fascinated with the suggestion that Dyche might come for Taylor. He seemed to go out of his way to pave Taylor out to me. Erik Pieters played plenty of games when CT was available.

They are both at the top of there games and had premier league interest.

We are pinning our hopes for this club on the owners ability to sell players, to make enough money to pay debts and keep us competitive.
If they can't get 5m for Charlie Taylor, we might struggle.

How many more years is Weghorst signed up for. If its two, then bearing in mind this loan, we are unlikely to sell him next year also

Weghorst out on loan again, must go down as one of our poorest ever signings now? Was really hoping we could sell him.

Weghorst farmed out to a middling Bundesliga side after a second summer where nobody is willing to sign him. But he played for Man United so he must be good!

I've been thinking for weeks that we have had serious interest shown in Benson, Cullen and perhaps Muric; to my mind we need to balance the books and selling such as Thomas, Taylor, JBG, Brownhill and the like won't achieve that.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 11:11 amIf there’s a potential outgoing that’s not already wout then you’d assume it being benson, if a big club has come in for him will be hard for benson to say no
The business model says that we buy in young/showing promise/cheap, hopefully choosing the right ones then sell for a healthy profit, with hopefully a sell-on clause to get a second pay day if they really do reach the top.

Disappointed but not surprised; i'd rather have lent them Jay-Rod
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Wonder if there's some jiggery poker going on with the deals. Lokonga who looked to be a loan has gone quite. Could it be that Berge as a permanent is the other option enabling us to still get two loans in, a left back and perhaps gnonto from Leeds? Just a thought.

As it happens, there is no doubt that is the longer term plan and I think Southampton are showing us what young players with Prem experience and potential are worth.
I’m not sure we will sell many now but we may cash a couple in in January or next summer to keep the cycle going.
