There must be an academic social history research work here. I never went to the Casino. My happy time was in the late sixties in Burnley local clubs - the Cricket Club, Rugby Club and Rose Room. The music was not so exclusively dance but gorgeously soulful sounds. On the other hand Sunday at the Mecca had a Segway about 10:00 that included Cool jerk, First I look at the purse, Devil with the blue dress, Breakout and C'mon and Swim.
Changed my life. Many will have their own story.

I bumped into it by mistake last night, having avoided it during the Proms season a few weeks ago. But really enjoyed it, particularly marvelling at that full sound from the BBC Concert Orchestra that really nailed the arrangements and were note perfect too. The singers did a great job too, glad there were no big names trying to show off

I've never really thought of it like line dancing but now you mention it you actually have a good point. Norther Soul is basically a wacky version of line dancing for squares desperately trying to be cool.

That was one of the books I planned to use, sadly there is going to be any room to deal with Cody’s relationship with various tribes, debunking the Ned Buntline myth has eaten my word count.

Sorry Cobble, thought I’d replied last night (last days of disertation so head is fried).

I got the reference to Twisted Knee, funnily enough Wounded Knee is one of the reference works I’ve had to ditch as I needed it to be my PhD thesis to fit it all in.

If you mean the heart, no one really knows… the coffin was filled with lime before they buried it in an unmarked grave in the corner of Fort Laramie (if memory serves). But there are army records recording the grave was disturbed shortly after.

As for Sitting Bull’s death, Indian Agent had history with Sitting Bull and Will Cody (BB). Very sad, agent wanted to prevent Cody getting any more glory, so while Cody visited friends en route the agent was sending Pawnee Police (the Sioux’s ancestral enemies) to arrest him. Sitting Bull, was asleep when they barged in, and was going with them until he was manhandled as they tried to force his jacket on. When Sitting Bull struggled he was shot from behind. Meanwhile, Bill Cody was crossing the plains with a wagon full of cakes to talk his mate into going back to the reservation.
