David Unsworth sacked at Oldham

Post by jdrobbo » Sun Sep 17, 2023 11:43 am

What on Earth has happened to them?

My first away game was Oldham 3-0 Burnley in 95.

They absolutely ran us ragged (I think they’d just been relegated from the PL). McCarthy (I think) was unplayable. Seem to remember we had Marlon sent off too.

I suppose it’s been a long decline ever since.

Sad really as I’m quite fond of their club.

It's hard for Greater Manchester clubs these days

Seeing I am an Oldham/Skipton hybrid, I have an affection for them, too. They are my favourite other league club. I remember being taken to Boundary Park by my father in the mid-'60s but not being too impressed with the 2-4 home defeat to Shrewsbury. They certainly didn't compare to Irvine et al.

The Northern ex FL clubs seem to way out number the Southern ones. New or re-entries to the FL are about equally divided between "North and South"

A friend of mine went to Oldham's home game last week. From what he told me, their fans will be delighted with this news.

Was watching cricket at Crompton CC yesterday & the disgruntled Oldham fans I overheard in the bar have had their wishes come true today.

They were talking about local derbies with Curzon Ashton next season.

I remember Joey Barton making a very well reasoned and insightful comment about Unsworth when, for a short while, he was caretaker manager at Everton

No hope for the likes BFS or Steve Evans then

The other two are proven managers at their respective levels though

Correct Tony, not the most popular by any means but have decent records, Evans has 8 or 9 promotions to his name and Allardyce is always ready to say how highly he rates himself!
