Positives from today…
Trafford had a good game and pulled off some top saves to keep us in it. His best game for me and he was pretty close to Almiron’s actually. Distribution poor but I’m pretty sure Muric wouldn’t have made a few of his saves & think that's why he’s in there ahead of him.
Berge had a great game bar one delayed pass that squandered a chance. He’s getting better.
Koleosho causing his usual carnage early doors when we saw some of the ball. Solid and hard working defensively too.
Odobert had Tripps worried when he came on. He looks a tricky player.
JBL missplaced a few passes but clearly has a turn on him and some speed.
Charlie had another decent game and Beyer too.
We look more solid at the moment and I’m pretty sure it’d have finished 1-0 without AAD’s brain fart.
Fosters suspension is over.
Im pretty sure AAD and Ramsey will learn quickly from their mistakes.

Re: Positives from today…
Questions from today;
Given how **** Popes kicking is, why did we let them just play out from the back all game.
Also, why were all our passes to players facing the wrong way - by the time they got turned, Newcastle were all over us.
Trippier didn't look great in the 2nd half when Ramsey was going at him, why didn't we double team him early and get Kolo on that wing?

Re: Positives from today…
Can only remember one good save from Trafford but his distribution put us under.constant pressure, needs taking out the team.
Koleosho has some good runs he'll be a top player but I still believe he'd cause more damage from the bench at the moment against tired defenders.
Brownhill is again showing.the step up is too much as is Roberts.
Weak at the back, weak up top.
Team is set up to fail.
Each week is bringing more questions than answers.
Just hope if VK takes us down by sticking to what he believes in that he sticks around to take us back up and learn from his mistake like SD did

Agree they Trafford needs taking out, he had a good couple of saves but nothing that wouldn’t be expected but his passing was way below Muric.bumba wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 11:00 pmCan only remember one good save from Trafford but his distribution put us under.constant pressure, needs taking out the team.

Re: Positives from today…
Oderbert is going to be world class , hopefully not at the expense of us being relegated because Pace & Kompany want to make money by putting Trafford in the shop window.

The stats support that as well. Ranks 5th in the league for passes completed. 100% short range pass completion, 98% medium pass range completion, 68% long range pass completion.
Re: Positives from today…
His short passes are literally 5 yard passed back and forth not all stats tell the full story.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 11:12 pmTrafford has some of the best distribution in the league.

He put us under a lot of pressure today, don't know why people defend him so much he hasn't done anything to warrant his place.
Re: Positives from today…
Unless you're at the game you have no idea what options he has in front of him as the TV cameras don't show much outside the box when the keeper has it at his feet.
On this occasion there was no one to hit with the long ball capable of flicking it on or holding it up.
Newcastle were swarming all over us in midfield as seen by the midfield giving the ball away cheaply on countless occasions.
What do you mean by he hasn't done anything to warrant his place?
Do you mean he's played badly enough to lose his place or he shouldn't have been first choice from the start?
If it's the former I can't see any obvious mistakes he's made. If it's the latter, what did Koleosho do to earn the shirt over Zaroury or why did Haaland start the first game of last season?
The goalkeeper is the least of our worries but I'm at the point I'd like to see Muric start myself just to shut some people up.

Re: Positives from today…
This was not the awful performance some people are making out. These players are learning and this was another game to help them improve. I honestly think looking for the finished article now is very misguided , and that's how it looks when reading some comments. Of course a lot of improvement is clearly needed but despite this we will have enough to stay up.
On today's performance I positively noted:
Trafford is gaining confidence and looking more assured;
Odebert looks like he is going to bring us a real goal threat;
Berge impressed against a team good enough to be in this season's Champions League;
We weathered periods of real pressure and were only ultimately undone by 2 individual mistakes;
Kompany will have taken things away to work on with certain players but I doubt he will be looking at changing the way we play. More a case of reasserting his player's belief that this difficult early period will bear them in good stead against many of the lesser teams in this league.

Re: Positives from today…
First ten minutes then we slowed down and Newcastle took over . For me got to get a settled team on the pitch all this chopping and changing isn't helping the team and Vincent should have a idea by now by what he sees in training each week.

We've only played 6 games, and games 4-5-6 had the same team bar one forced change each week.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 1:17 amFirst ten minutes then we slowed down and Newcastle took over . Re: Positives from today…
first 13 minutes we were much better than a Champions league team on their own pitch, said Champions League team scored a worldie and a penalty to beat us
We lost at home to QPR a few months ago - the improvement is huge already, once it clicks we'll be good

Re: Positives from today…
I'm proud of the team today. It's not the result that we wanted but I think a lot of teams are going to be beaten at St James Park this season.
It would have been easy for the team to fall apart after that first goal but they didn't and put in a shift against a very good Newcastle side who recently put 8 past Sheffield United.
I saw some other thread calling the performance "weak and spineless" but I think it was the opposite of that. Consistently wanting the ball, showing for passes under pressure etc. takes bottle and that's what players like ADD, Beyer, Cullen and Trafford are doing. It's easy to put your foot through the ball and launch it but Kompany wants the team to play a specific way and they are trying to do that. Obviously the execution isn't right yet and there's lots to work on but part of playing that way is being brave enough to play out from the back.
That's going to be hard against teams at the top of the Premier League but hopefully it will be different against teams lower down the table. Now we're through a brutal run of fixtures, we will hopefully be able to pick up some points in the next 4 or 5 games and the table will start looking better.
I think Luton is going to be a really tough game and there's no guarantee we win but they obviously aren't on the same level as teams like Newcastle, Spurs and Villa. I'm confident that Kompany is going to have the team ready to go out and give a performance on Tuesday.
Also Odobert looks like a quality player! Only a couple of short cameos so far but he looks very talented and I'm excited to see him progess!

Another positive was that I could hear the Burnley fans throughout on my stream. Great backing for the lads

Re: Positives from today…
I’d say the main positive is we got away with only a 2-0 defeat.
Re: Positives from today…
Positives from yesterday……Man City, Aston Villa, Spurs, Man United and Newcastle all qualified for European comps, Hell of a step up from last season, Keep the faith UTC

Re: Positives from today…
As posters have said its taking time for these young men to try to adapt to this level of play but they are learning, though its hard lesson. A win will be a real morale booster. Lets hope we get one soon!!!
Re: Positives from today…
The positive for me was parking near the A1 A167 junction, right by a bus stop. Caught bus into centre using my old folks pass.
I even got back OK, after missing the first stop and out running the bus to the next! It was a fair way. I almost faded away!
The positive being that I did the 140 steps up and down and them got my further extreme by the legging it process! Back at car 5.22 and away. Excellent.
