Socks

Post by Happy medium » Mon Oct 09, 2023 3:38 pm

How do you wear yours ?

I started hiking them up above my knees a few years back when JT and some of the other Chelsea boys started doing it and it made me feel soooo cool.
Now, I've torn holes in the backs of of all my socks as well and let me tell you, I feel Uber cool....!

When I go out late at night I tend to wear mine on my hands, always matching my balaclava of course.

I was stood behind some young lad in a cafe queue yesterday, he must have just finished Sunday league and he'd cut the bottom off his socks like all the pro's do, and holes in the calfs, walking around in flipflops.
I'd have got kicked off the park and out of the pub afterwards for that haha

Baw-baggery.

Basically, unless you are an ELITE athlete, it’s just a gimmick, and it makes you look like what you are….

We have a lot of players at the moment with the low socks that people were having fits about Grealish doing.
Foster, Benson, Amdouni, to name those off the top of my head.

I'm not against it to be fair.

Nothing wrong with it but why do they wear them like that?

And why do a lot of players wear their socks just above the knee?

I remember reading years ago about the psychological and therefore physiological advantage of feeling that you look good whilst participating in sport.
I suppose the poseurs amongst us get an even greater advantage from thinking they look great whilst playing.
I used to do a lot of running and it was an article about turning up to races in new kit etc. giving one an edge.
Although I never embraced the theory, I suppose, however small, any advantage is to be used in elite level sports. (Not that I was any near that level I hasten to add!).

Why are they sold in sizes that fit several shoe sizes, ie 9-12 ?

I end up with the heel either half way up my leg or half way down my foot. Shoes don't come like that. If I have size 9 shoe, I should be able to buy a size 9 sock.

Marathon/Endurance athletes tend to wear long socks without holes in them.

Rugby players don't seem to need holy socks.

Me either. When I used to play it was the ones who liked to get stuck in that had their socks down

Much better than the fairly recent fad from a few years ago of having them rolled right up over the knees. Wtf is that about

Do the every day socks (not football socks) automatically follow this trend?

I had 2 pairs which certainly did!

Hoops are the only proper socks.
