Football wants everyone to see players "taking a knee", football wants everyone to see players wearing Rainbow laces / armbands but you don't think football should want people to pay respect to the millions who gave their lives to protect everyone's freedom?
Strange.
Actually I imagine there are plenty who would like to see football keeping its nose out of politics, religion, human rights, war and all that is associated with it.

Judging by the respectful way in which it's impeccably observed up and down the country at football grounds, I'd suggest an overwhelming majority support the moment every November.

That I do not doubt.
But that wasn't really where I was coming from.
Football seems to be claiming moral high ground in plenty of social issues.

Fairly sure it was one of the young lads a couple of rows in front of me in the CFS that started the clapping after the last post. He was clearly unaware of the minutes silence that was to follow, and stopped his clapping when he realised but by that point quite a few more had started to follow his lead. It probably wasn't helped by the terrible PA system which is pretty inaudible in the CFS, or maybe he just wasn't quite listening at that point. As always the last post was impeccably observed.
I don't think it's wrong to discuss whether these traditions should continue in football. The likely answer to any debate like that is yes it should at this moment in time. But those kinds of topics should be brought up in a much more respectful way than what looks like an ill-thought-out and poorly worded comment.

The last post was delivered perfectly and observed impeccably. The announcer should have perhaps been clearer with “ immediately after the last post observe a min silence “ perhaps ? . Just an unintentional thing with the clapping and though unfortunate it didn’t cheapen the occasion in any way ( imo )

I actually agree with you on all of this list except Remembrance Day, "lest we forget".

Meatheads in the cricket field stand starting clapping. They can‘t go 45 minuets without a key, a vape and a pint so no surprise they can‘t stand still for 1 minute.

There are people on here who genuinely worry me.
If there's one time we need to show respect it's towards those who gave their lives to save our own.

Completely agree- that one time being Remembrance Sunday.

Racism and homophobia are issues, or certainly have been, in football. Not sure what the war has to do with it.
It's not war, it's an act of remembrance. Like it or not, football clubs are part of the community. People from our town died in the wars, including my great grandad. If you can't be respectful, then at least have the decency to respect the feelings of those of us who actually appreciate their sacrifice.

You could say the same about the taking of the knee or similar gestures.
You don't like them? So shut up.
Or get rid of the lot.
If people really are that interested in showing their respects, there's plenty of Remembrance services on Sunday morning.

Because we don't really need it, over a week before the event especially, on the Turf.

I don't boo our own players, be it taking the knee or whatever. As for the rest of your post... Well, I'll just leave it at that rather than get the thread pulled. Good day.

I didn't accuse you of doing anything, I was speaking generally, making the point that, as it stands, we can't pick and choose which ceremonies to respect and which ones to boo.
Hence the call to accept them all, silently if needs be, or not have them.
As I said earlier, there's plenty of ceremonies on Remembrance Sunday morning.

I’m not a particularly nationalistic person and don’t like pompous ceremony in general but I find it genuinely unbelievable that anyone could possibly oppose the annual minute’s remembrance at Turf Moor. It’s important and genuinely moving …. The hushed silence of 20,000 people, the plaintive sound of the last post on the bugle and the solemn reading of the “we will remember them” mantra. It’s an important ritual of life for me.
The fact it was perhaps curtailed by applause on Saturday (due to misunderstanding not malice) didn’t lessen its power for me.

You're wrong. I'm in the CFS and the clapping commenced somewhere in the Hargreaves lower
