Chance creation

Post by Vegas Claret » Tue Dec 26, 2023 8:45 pm

It's been miles better recently, shame we couldn't put any away today but second half we played really well. Loads of positives once they started to believe, credit to Kompany for whatever he said at half time.

The two biggest chances came in the first half, I thought. Decent one for Tresor(?) to get a shot away within seconds of the first whistle, then Amdouni should’ve played in Tresor early after a brilliant turn, held it too long and fluffed his shot. Think Brownhill then curled one wide after. All decent chances we should’ve done more with, not to mention the second half near open goals.

We should have created a lot more as well. We got into some wonderful positions and then continously made the wrong decision or just executed poorly.

The best chance and worst miss was Gudmundsson's header

Our biggest problem, we are making more than enough chances to win games, just not making them count.

Whilst it will be rare that we deserve to beat teams due to dominance we could be beating them on goals.

Not sure it was the half time team talk, it was the second disallowed goal that seemed to give us the impetus.

Really should have equalised during that spell, then who knows what might have happened.

that's why Liverpool paid 65 million for Nunez (plus 22 in add ons), it's the hardest part of the game.

Easy apparently according to KRBFC and GhandisFlipFlop - any dosser can bang 49 PL goals in 144 apps for Burnley!

Say all you like about improved performances, but the reason we will go down this season is we are poor at both ends of the pitch - too many soft goals conceded, no cutting edge up front.

Fact is, this team has been learning on the job for half a season and that’s a luxury no team can afford. Our situation now is almost irretrievable.

In the interest of stats over feels, our number of shots & XG going backward a few games

9 (0.97) Liverpool
7 (0.42) Fulham
14 (0.81) Everton
6 (1.05) Brighton
12 (0.78) Wolves
19 (2.6) Sheffield
11(1.44) WHam
8 (0.3) Arsenal
17 (0.5) Palace
6 (0.9) Bournemouth

In our wins against Fulham and Luton, our opponents had more chances and were of higher quality.

This backs up your point, our “passes into the opposition box” is the lowest of all 20 teams.

That is a massive issue. Annoyingly, we look really dangerous in the setup phase, it is the final ball that lacks, or the movement to receive it.

Your dead right, we should have equalised, but then Liverpool I suspect would simply have gone into 2nd gear.

Movement to receive imo

Players unable to shoot straight or not be in the right place for a top in, costs us many points.

Some composure is needed all round. Too much rushing into the wrong decisions. Hit the target first and let the rest come later.

Don’t make stuff up coolclaret. I never said it was easy. I said that 49 in 144 doesn’t tell the full story.

When we get in a good position, its as if we don't believe it, freeze and then theres a poor effort on goal or the opposition have time to smother the attack
