You got the point though. And again I have to say 10 Messi's and we wouldn't win anything. Its TEAM. Horses for courses.

Benson and Zaroury are creating a lot of transfer interest and speculation because they are both very good players and quite a few big teams would be overjoyed to have them in their team .:: I wonder if Larson and Tresor were available it would create the same level of phone calls desperate to sign them

I’d be surprised if we let Roberts go as we currently only have 3 full backs at the club. I’ve also heard Taylor is facing a month on the sidelines which would make our need for an LB even more desperate.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 11:01 amcan't believe we are supposedly letting Roberts leave because Vitinho is no better in my eyes..

Do you not think that they’ll be analysts that have worked their socks off to identify and nullify threats. Benson like Anthony at Man United is a one footed non threat.spt_claret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 10:31 amBut this makes no sense. If you don't like Kompany's tactics or game management, how can you be agreeing with the player selection and saying these players are no good for a system that you don't like? If you want the manager gone and his tactics changed why do you want players gone if they don't fit the tactics (that you think are poor tactics)? I genuinely can't follow the reasoning.
I still fail to see how you can possibly assess a player as not good enough when he's had the sum total of 80 minutes, 10 of which was against a Dyche team in full "sit back and grind the clock down" mode, 16 were against Man City already at 3-0 down, and the only start/45m he's got was Villa where we played a staggeringly physically vulnerable team all round- Delcroix, Cullen, Al Dakhil, Koleosho, much as I think he's decent Amdouni. He's had so little to judge him as not good enough on, especially next to other underperformers, and again the argument isn't "he should be starting" it's "he should be given a reasonable number of chances to do what he did regularly last year before being written off". We get people telling us not to write new arrivals off on the basis of a LOT more failed appearances than he's had, and he showed last year what he can do for US, which matters more than what a player did elsewhere.
As for "there's not an LB/LCB that wouldn't mark him out" he gave Man United problems in the Cup last season with a theoretically weaker Burnley side and scored twice against Bournemouth so that's already been proven false.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
According to L’equipe Christopher Wooh has declined interest from Burnley
Mercato: Wooh (Rennes) declined an interest in Burnley
Back in Rennes after the elimination of Cameroon in the round of 16 of the CAN, axial defender Christopher Wooh received some approaches from English clubs, especially Burnley. An interest that he declined. He will probably continue the season in Rennes.
Starting during the CAN with Cameroon, author of the goal of the qualification for the round of 16 against Gambia (3-2, January 23), Christopher Wooh is back in Rennes after the elimination against Nigeria on Saturday (0-2). He will find a team whose dynamics have changed and competition with Warmed Omari in a position of right axial defender, which Rennes wanted to strengthen at the beginning of the transfer window.
But the Breton club delayed. AliduSeidu arrives rather from Clermont to play right lateral, even if he can also evolve in the axis. Omari has raised his head and Wooh (22 years old, under contract until 2026) will most likely stay. He had some leads in England, but he rejected an interest of Burnley, 19th in the Premier League, who should join Montpellier's Maxime Estève

You don’t seem to grasp that on a discussion board that a rumour then causes discussion which can lead onto other things, there would be no point of the board if people couldn’t discuss things, look at the other thread which is just rumours if you want to read without discussion.Oldparkwood wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 11:54 amNo I'm actually taking the time out of my day to read transfer rumours as per the title of the thread which is getting more difficult!... Re: January transfer window rumours.
This is such a non-argument appeal to authority.
"there'll be analysts". There were last season, they couldn't nullify him. Yes they'll be better analysts, in theory he has better teammates too now, plus again- those same analysts didn't nullify him against PL opposition in the Cup last year, which is you know- actual examples to go off of, not airy-fairy "but there's analysts".
"One footed non threat". He was quite literally an unstoppable threat second half of last season off the bench, and this onefooted onedimensional shite is shite, he could go on the outside and create a chance for a teammate as well as cut in and shoot, he did it repeatedly.
What threat is Tresor? Larsen has offered a threat in maybe 4 games, which has actually yielded productivity twice.
Literally nobody is saying he should be the first name on the teamsheet just that it's ridiculous to be on 12 points at this stage of the season, with our substitutions not working and more often making us worse than stronger, and not give a SERIOUS try of last season's super sub.
Exhausting as hell to keep having to argue against points that are literally based on an absence of evidence, and using that to substantiate actions.

Still want a LB in as top priority though more than even RB, I'm fine with Taylor playing he's far from the weaklink at the back but as the current situation shows we need a proper alternative to him or we have problems.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
The thing that bothers me the most regarding Benson is the fact that we simply don't know if he's good enough to play in PL. Yes, we can speculate that his weaknesses (doesn't track back, lightweight, predictable at times) could limit his effectiveness, but we can't be sure. Why? Because he was never given a chance in the first place.
He played 4 times. Started once and was subbed on three times while we were losing. He played a grand total of 73 minutes. Messi and Ronaldo would struggle to make in impact, let alone someone who never played in PL and was not fully fit either.
On the other hand, Tresor and Ramsey have been awful every time they were on the pitch. No attacking threat, 0 influence on game, lazy and keep making the same mistakes. Why are they given a chance while Benson is frozen?

Just my two pence, but why don't we take a screenshot of a transfer rumour (If you can or able), then as you scroll through the noise, it will be easier to pick out the actual rumours from just general discussion.
I know some people do this already, but if we can make this more of a standard it could be clearer for everyone?

No incoming rumours I see, just the usual guff, slating our existing players (such as the above lies that Ramsey and Tresor have never played well for us, ignoring Ramsey vs Man Utd and Tresor vs Fulham and Liverpool).
Would like to see the Montpellier lad confirmed, that is a weak position for us, height plus the LCB needs to play it with his left to get our flow started down that side.
EDIT - on the Sacha post put up while I typed this, the comment about the owners and finances suggests we have overstretched and need to claw some cash back. Or sell to buy etc.

Interesting comment about restrictions on spending - not sure about the validity of that (especially when you consider what we were willing to spend on Maatsen - maybe the likelihood of relegation has put the brakes on) or just a bit of speculation on Sacha's part.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I'd find it helpful if we split the "transfer window" threads into 3 separate threads:
1) Burnley FC - rumours of incoming players;
2) Burnley FC - rumours of outgoing players;
3) Other Clubs - rumours of transfers.
I've no issues with debates on each of these 3 separate threads, provided people can keep the debates within the three separate topics.
