It doesn't take much to know that 777 Partners football operations are on a dodgy footing - loads have left that side of the operation

I'm not sure on the quality, but Castore was marketed as a premium sportswear brand - they have a range at Reiss. Has this poor reputation just come from complaints from Villa players about the shirts retaining sweat?

I think there were some issues with them managing to provide enough stock for Newcastle, for one?

Yep Castore have done a deal with Unbro indeed , the shirts are very poor please don't try to pull it as they will rip .
They have done a deal with Ireland as shirts start at €82 and a new one out today which i will not buy . What i do understand is the knock offs from China are better quality at €15 a pop , you have to laugh .

In fairness its all about 90% of the population of Newcastle wear and the other 10% are that weird bunch who need to be seen topless

Their marketing etc makes them look like they are aiming for the premium end of the market but then they go and make the awful chav-wear that they do 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not sure they have even been marketed as a premium sportswear brand to be honest.
I know they tried to hit the golf market by hooking up with the likes of Matt Fitzpatrick - at the time i did think that if you are directing your brand in this way then it has to be decent quality and also quite expensive if you want to make it as a success in golf apparel.
But as soon as I went in 2 or 3 of their stores you could see from the price and the poor quality it was a lot nearer to Slazenger than Galvin Green.

Initially they seem to have a scattergun approach of getting into as many sports markets as possible but it seems like they soon settled on the volume markets of football shirts and cheap golf wear.

It’s a massively tough market to crack is sports wear and there’s been lots of mergers and takeovers of brands. Burnley FC might get a good shirt deal right now as Castore see this sector as their main avenue for growing their brand but personally I don’t think they will be around in 3 or 4 years or they’ll be purchased by Mike Ashley (who has a surprising number of brands under his empire)

I’d say their collaboration with Reiss is definitely attempt to market as a premium sports brand.

I went into the Castore store at the Trafford Centre today and their general leisure wear are very nice designs. Much nicer than Umbro. Can’t feel that Umbro (with their heritage) really missed a trick with not doing versions of more iconic kits from the past.

Don’t think so personally - a lot of brands have a premium element or range.
Reiss are largely owned by Next these days.

If that was the only thing Castore were doing then collaborating with Reiss maybe targeting the mid premium type market (Reiss are not really premium as such but it’s certainly not bottom end either !!)

But the majority of Castore sports wear is nowhere near the price they are selling with the Reiss range.

As said above with the way they are going with their stores and golf clothing they are heading nearer to the Slazenger type brands than anything premium.

There’s an article online saying we’d signed a deal with Umbro until 2026?! Good and bad news if true.

Bad:

- From what I’ve seen Castore kits are quite plain and boring
- Quality issues reported although you’d expect they might’ve resolved them next year.

Good:

- I think they do some miles better/smart merchandise I might actually wear
- Umbro have been hit & miss - they deserve sacking for this years efforts though
- We won’t have templated GK kits and training wear that are exactly the same as loads of other local clubs
For anybody who actually has a clue about Castore - they make some very good premium sportswear
I have plenty of it and it's amazing quality

On the PNE site the Castore trackies are £60 whereas the BFC ones in the shop are only £30.

Announced Wednesday that Castore have bought and will continue with the Umbro brand alongside theirs in UK:

https://www.sportindustry.biz/news-cate ... brentford/

Sounds like we will continue with Umbro under Castore ownership

Yes, I was looking at it in Reiss earlier this week and it certainly looked decent and I’d be much more likely to buy it than some of the Umbro gear.

Like I said though, I’d like to see a good range of merchandise to suite all budgets if they do go down this route. Not everyone will want to pay those prices.

I noticed on the Brentford game that there were quite a few new scarves about and they were more like Crystal Palace Blue and the Claret was more Ruby Red & then a logo that I think was Burnley College in white

I thought mmh Red White and Blue
American influence
Next years strip with a few stripes and the odd star or 50

Re: Next seasons kit manufacturer - Castore

Overall pleased it won’t be Umbro again. I’m not a fan of Umbro although think last season they did an excellent job, have been hit and miss... and find their merchandise very basic - bit like football in the 80’s.

Appreciate it’s essentially the same company now but Castore kit and merchandise looks cleaner and much more fashionable to me.

Reported quality issues are a concern though so hope they’ve resolved them.

"This partnership sees Castore set to provide expertly engineered precision sportswear that uplifts both players and fans alike"

Part of the bull that accompanies the announcement
The marketing teams must **** themselves when they get the samples of China, coming up with the bullshit to accompany the different fabric under the arms or the stretchy/not-so-stretchy material that is simply a cost saver.

I don’t know people are so critical of castore. Their shirts look fine and the England cricket stuff is decent.
Yes we can point to poor quality control in the case of the upside down Wolves badge.
Anything will be better than this year’s kits from Umbro which in my opinion were pony. All three of them.

Castore bought Umbro, so likely its just a company name and logo change. Wouldnt surprise me if the quality and designs will be along the same lines as what we are used to.

They've got a lot of stick from fans on social media regarding quality, stock, delivery, etc. I'm surprised they are winning contracts because I hear nothing but bad things.

As for Umbro, remember the club pick the designs; Umbro don't simply give it to them.

Hope they can come up with something better than this season’s offerings then.

Not really. As I said earlier.

Umbro don't manufacture their own stuff. The Umbro brand is owned by Iconix who own a variety of fashion brands (disappointed we didn't go with their other brand Pony rather than Umbro) and just does licensing and marketing for them.

The UK licence for Umbro is held by GL Dameck who do the actual production. https://www.gldgroup.com/about-us

GL Dameck have recently sub-licensed this to Castore
