Muric -7 - saved us from a cricket score.

Assignon -7 responsible for goal 3 but was about best player in a very bright opening 20 mins
O’Shea -6 - kept going at least
Esteve -5
Ekdal -4 - should have seen red for a deliberate stamp.
Vitinho -4

Berge -5
Cullen -5
Brownhill -4 - jogged back for their 3rd

JBL - 3 - the definition of anonymous. Incredible he stayed on as long as he did
Odobert -4
Foster - 4

First 20 mins I thought we were excellent. Energy. Movement. Asked questions of their keeper.
After their first goal a criminal collapse. A lack of fight and belief. An embarrassing surrender and that part is on the manager I’m afraid.

All this talk out “in our hands”. We haven’t been close to good enough.

I can’t do the ratings today as I left after 2/3rds of the game, however Muric (7) aside, being kind, the rest were pretty poor in the 57 mins I watched.

Quelle surprise that a team paid for by an oil state was able to outclass one from a small town. After a decent start, we got done by the sucker punch yet again and there was never going to be much of a way back from there. Obviously there have a lot of good players and are way bettwr than us so quite why they have to cheat so much is a bit weird but yo, that's the Premier league for you.

Looking forward to next season back in an actual sporting competition again rather than this rancid, non-competitive, business market.

Muric 7 no real chance with any of the goals, made some good saves, including the pen. Distribution a mix of sublime and really crap.

Assignon 7 looked actually bothered, got forward well, particularly early on

O'Shea 5 decent header for the goal, not much else decent

Esteve 5

Cullen 5 fighting a losing battle against much better players

Berge 6 when we were good, he was good, but he looked a broken man by about an hour in

Brownhill 6 gave us some bite early on and late on, at least kept battling

Bruun-Larsen 4 almost no chance against the pace of Livramento, although he did get in behind a couple of times from Muric

Odobert 3 odobad

Foster 5 tried but his decision making let him down and he was always going to find it difficult on his own against Stringbean

Ekdal 6 thought he might struggle against their pace but he was strong and had a decent battle with their two up top

Gudmundsson 6 should have started ahead of either winger

Never like losing but feeling pretty chipper to be getting away from this tedious league that actively encourage cheating both on and off the pitch.

Muric - 6 Probably our best player. At what we do he is the best but does unnecessarily give the ball away cheaply
Assignon - 6 Great 1st 20 minutes then got forced back and made a very poor choice which resulted in the 3rd goal. Not as prominent 2nd half
O’Shea - 5 After his recent performances this was a disappointing effort today. Never really got a grip of Wilson and Isak
Esteve - 4 Bullied today. Not certain how bad the injury was or was it just to get an early exit?
Vitinho- 4 Not a left back…true story
Odobert - 3 Absolutely anonymous
Brownhill - 4 Like a dog chasing a balloon
Cullen - 4 Totally owned by Guimarães and Longstaff
Berge - 4 Harsh I know because Sander is a really good player but he wasn’t even close to his levels today
JBL - 4 Can’t beat a man and loses the ball cheaply….not a great combination for a winger
Foster - 4 He can’t play the target man role. Not a lot of movement. After his physical tics today I hope he’s ok

Ekdal - 4 Struggled to handle the front 2 of Newcastle.
JBG - 5 A great professional for Burnley but when he’s the best we use from the bench you can see one of our problems.

We proved today that besides us putting up a fight for the last couple of months we are massively out of our depth with this squad. Newcastle’s front line is a pretty good one but today that wasn’t the strongest side we could have faced and we have been swept aside with absolute ease. There will definitely be some tweaking over the summer but I suspect we will be quite a strong contender next season in the Championship

Muric - 8* - let's be right, he kept it to single figures

Assignon - 7 - I'd mark 6.5 if I could - at fault for the third but at least showed some commitment and kept going
Esteve - 5 - nowhere near his usual standards'
O'Shea - 6 - kept going
Vitinho - 4 - poor

Culled - 4 - huffed and puffed
Brownhill - 4 - puffed and huffed
Berge - 7 - a shining light in an otherwise at times dire outfield effort

Odabert - 4 - pretty much non-existent
Foster - 3 - one of the most bizarre performances I've ever seen in 45 years of going on the Turf. His body language and constant touching of his lips - or whatever the hell he was doing - suggests to me something isn't right. Suspect he shouldn't have been anywhere near a football pitch - staggered he lasted as long as he did. Saw a post on twitter saying he was playing in a different postcode to his team mates - pretty accurate.
JBL - 3 - non-existent

Ekdal - 5 - asked to stop the bleeding when the game was already gone
JBG - 6 - stands out as the one player, Berge aside, who looks comfortable with the ball at his feet. No panic to his play
Fofana - n/a - dog with a balloon
Amdouni - n/a

A really bright first 15/20 minutes with no cutting edge as ever - the first goal went in and it became men against boys in an instant. Assuming we've seen the last of Jay and Benson if they can't get game time after that front line performance.

Muric 8 not much wrong. No chance with goals
Assignon 7 will be a good player
O’Shea 6 at least he kept going
Esteve 5 struggled and looked glad to go off
Vitinho 3 Murphy yes Murphy destroyed him. Hang your head in shame VK for making him play lb
Brownhill 5
Cullen 5 just got over run
Berge 7.cant do it alone
Odebert 3 surprised he didn’t wear flip flops
Foster 3 time to got. Has had more than enough chances
JBL 4 started brightly then zero

Ekdal 6 looked ok
JBG 7 looked good but game was over. Newcastle had already declared

VK 3 got the selection and game plan wrong again Totally out thought by Howe although Eddie had the players

Really really poor defensively, gave the ball away cheaply in dangerous areas and toothless in the final third. Not a great combination.

Muric 7 - didn't do much wrong aside from a few dodgy passes.
Assignon 6 - very bright but not a great deal in terms of end product.
Esteve 5
O Shea 6 - plus 1 for an excellent goal
Brownhill - 5 - Not great. Showed Gordon the space which meant a penno was inevitable. Sloppy in possession
Vitinho 4 - I feel for him a bit. He gets shunted around the pitch. Sometimes he's very good, sometimes he's horrible. At LB he's often the latter.
Cullen - 6
Berge - 7 pick of the outfield players again. Hope we keep him but I doubt it
JBL 5 - He's got quality but it wasn't on show today. A few times his poor delivery led to a Newcastle counter.
Odobert 5 - The boy has pace and talent, but he's not ready to be the main man in a struggling side. Too much being asked of a teenager.
Foster 5 - Got in some great positions, ran hard. Horrible finishing.

I can't give ratings today because when the fourth goal went I went to sit outside on the sun with my lovely cold beer.....I had got so depressed watching our players simply give the ball away to allow them to score 4 goals.
From what I saw I would give:
7 Muric and Assignon
3 Vitihno and Odobert
5 the rest.
I'm thoroughly p!ssed off with watching us commit footballing suicide through naivety without making an effort to chase back when a mistake is made.
And don't get me going about playing players out of position!!!

Muric 7*
Assignon 5
O’Shea 5
Esteve 3 if he's gone off for being winded as it appeared it's shameful
Vitinho 3 Sorry but that is up there with the worst 90 minutes from a Burnley player I've witnessed in 46 years of following the Clarets. Absolutely hapless and criminal that we play him here when he's a bang average right back!
Berge 6
Cullen 6
Brownhill 3 he can't pick a killer pass even if he was presented with a 7 on 1
Odobert 4
Bruun Larsen 3
Foster 4 unfit and wasteful. Did any simple pass over 5 yards hit a Burnley player, genuine question?

Ekdal 7
Gudmundsson 6

An absolute disgrace of a performance AGAIN!!

Muric 7
Assignon 5 - decent for the first 20 but then shocking..the 3rd goal was embarrassing.
O'Shea 5 - I know he's done better lately but he's not a top tier centre half as yet

Muric 8 kept the score down
Assignon 6
Dara 6
Esteve 4 worst game in a BFC shirt
Vitinho 3 good last week, completely awful today.
Berge 5
Cullen 4
Brownhill 3 jogged around, gave the ball away, gifted them a penalty, then when they missed the penalty he gives the ball away for them to score anyway. Wasn’t tracking their midfield runs into our box. The worst captain performance I have ever seen, self sabotage.
Odobert 4 quiet on the right prefer him on the other side.
Larsen 3 hopeless
Foster 3 We all gave this fella a free pass in the Championship when he was poor, settling in period, he starts the season quite well, we were fooled, he’s miles off the level required, can’t pass a football and does nothing but run into blind allies. It’s a shame Zeki hasn’t been credited with the same free pass as Lyle, no bedding in period allowed for Zeki (our most talented forward)

Muric 7 - kept it from being a cricket score, at least tried to get us playing with mixed results
Assignon 5 - unbelievably erratic - sublime to the ridiculous
O’Shea 5 - tried, but he’s v limited
Esteve 4 - got given the run around
Vitinho 4 - ditto
Cullen 5 - outmuscled
Brownhill 4 - looked nowhere near
Berge 6 - good passing again
Bruun Larsen 4 - doesn’t offer enough, really patchy player
Odobert 4 - I don’t see it
Foster 4 - way off it

Ekdal 6 - added a bit of presence
JBG 6 - should’ve started

Bright-ish start, then we collapsed. Absolutely no qualms about going down. Men against boys.

Muric 8 (excellent keeping, but -1 for poor distribution today which may have been outfield players not moving tbf)
Assignon 5 (weirdly excellent for the first 20 minutes, but then Newcastle realised he was really a rabbit and promptly shot him!)
O'Shea 5
Esteve 5
Vitihno 4
Cullen 6
Brownhill 4
Berge 5 (There's a reason he struggles against the better teams)
Oderbert 3 (useless waste of a shirt today)
JBL 4 (As above)
Foster 3

JBG 5
Amdouni 4
Fofana -1

As my mate from Newcastle said after, you murdered us for 20 minutes and looked like it was only a matter of time. Then Newcastle scored from nowhere and we simply melted away like the snowman in that Christmas thing! I said that's the story of about 30 games this season!! After getting ourselves in with a sniff of staying up it was utterly embarrassing imo.

Muric - 8 top performance, saved us from a humiliation
Assignon - 6 started strongly when we were on the front foot but it’s when we are on the back foot he doesn’t look so good
Vitinho - 5 two assists for Murphy
Esteve - 5 found vs top quality forwards
O’Shea - 6 ditto but plus one for a well taken goal
Cullen - 6 toiled manfully
Berge - 6 showed for the ball continually but mins one point for coughing up the ball for the fourth
Brownhill - 5 one off for the penalty
Odebert - 6 had some decent runs and got two or three shots off
Brun Larsen - 4 decent chance early on that Dubravka smothered but after that not at the races. Fatal combination with Vitinho at left back
Foster - 3 started brightly but soon deteriorated badly to make our whole front line disjointed and ineffective after the first goal went in

Ekdal - 6 did ok
JBG - 6 solid but unspectacular, at least halted the landslide

Undone by the superior quality, pace, precision and experience of the Mags midfield and forward line. Once the goal went in they went through the gears. We’ve got two, forward and sideways.

Well, at least I thought we defended corners well today.

Muric - 7 - some decent saves, but he will be disappointed with the first goal and his distribution wasn't at its best.

Assignon - 5 - very good for 15 minutes and possibly unlucky not to get a penalty but thereafter absolutely hopeless and hot-headed.

Vitinho - 4 - kept trying but he scrappy and was exposed by the system for 3 of the goals.

O'Shea - 6 - not bad in the main.

Esteve - 6 - stuck at it OK even if struggled to impose himself on Wilson.

Cullen - 5 - his most ineffective game since coming back into the team and guilty of some uncharacteristic panic.

Berge - 6 - as convincing as anyone on the pitch but in a team which relies on players scrambling well when possession is lost, his languid tendencies are not ideal and this wasn't the ideal time for them to resurface.

Brownhill - 6 - ratted effectively at times and helped us set the tone early on but one of several players who will reflect there was more they might have done to close space.

Larssen- 4 - didn't do enough to track runners for the first two goals and otherwise ineffective.

Odobert - 5 - far from his best and showed his naivety in and out of possession but to his credit he did try and keep going.

Foster - 6 - a little untidy and needs to do more to compete physically in first phase when the percentage ball comes, but he kept persevering and showed his threat at times.

Ekdal - see Esteve.

JBG - 6 - thought he added balance to the team but it was miles too late.

After the good run, perhaps this wax predictable because we've been vulnerable all season when good sides with powerful, quick attackers allow us to have the ball and then hit us on the counter attack - but still it was a shock how evident those old failings were, and how easily we played into Newcastle's hands.

The basic problem is that our players weren't good enough, relative to Newcastle's - but that's not really a criticism of the players, many of whom did first individually, albeit heads dropped, perhaps unsurprisingly, from 2-0 onwards. It is a criticism of the system, which brought to mind the naivety of the opening weeks of the season. Defending on half way with 2 centre backs 2v2 with two attackers ie OK if you can impose your will on the game physically and it has worked OK for us in ggames against lower half teams recently. But against better sides, who are good enough to get controlled possession in their own half when they win back, and have the sort of counter attacking pace Newcastle had, it is a recipe for disaster when both fullbacks and all 3 central midfielders get ahead of the ball. That was the story for the first 2 and 4th goals, and on countless other occasions when we got away with it. Pacey attackers peeled into space, our defenders (mostly, but with some unacceptable exceptions) tried to get back but could never get set and there was only one outcome.

A shame because we started well. Had we got the penalty we should have got perhaps it might have been different. But probably not because that idealism and lack of pragmatism would still have been there. The story of the season really, and that is why we are going down.

Muric 6 - made some good saves at the end to keep the score down, but distribution poor all game

Assignon 6 - started brightly like most, but quickly defaulted to his erratic nature when the going got tough

O'Shea 5 - a championship defender against premier league forwards. A struggle but didn't shirk anything.

Esteve 4 - woeful showing

Vitinho 3 - utterly hopeless. Taylor should play every time if we had a manager to make these sorts of decisions.

Odobert 3 - I don't care if you're 19, 29, or 39, if you're out there with the badge on your chest you work for the team. This lad is talented but is an absolute shirker.

Cullen 5 - tried but was swamped

Berge 5 - tried but was swamped

Larsen 4 - started off with intent, but as soon as the going got tough, away he went.

Brownhill 5 - tried and didn't shirk anything but he's not at this level

Foster 3 - why is he playing, VK?

Ekdal 5 - tried

Gudmundsson 5 - tried

I described our team as looking like a men's football team again after our recent upturn in form, but today we reverted to type and became the weak, timid U18's team as soon as the first setback arrived.

It sums up Vincent Kompany as a manager that in an absolutely must win game, just when it's in our hands again, we ended the first half having kicked off 4 times. This manager hasn't a clue how to get a strong mentality into his players, and with the last of Dyche's players going this summer, anyone expecting us to repeat 22/23 will be in for a very nasty shock indeed.

Summed our season up really after a decent first 10 minutes of possession but no end product. Just totally weak (mentally and physically) and naive, they tore us apart. We seemed to think we were going to win, and we’ve earned the right to think that after recent weeks, but since New Year they’ve lost to the top 3, Palace away, and nobody else, and it showed.
I’ve still seen enough to think we’ll be okay next season and I look forward to it, subject to what the yanks have done/need to do post relegation as part of their great “plan”.

Can't bring myself to post marks. It would end up being flippant.

It's difficult to separate the players from the tactics and strategy, and today the management let the players down who, in turn, let themselves and ourselves down.

Somebody getting in early and calling our player a Lazy Boy?

Anyway…….

Cannot rate today as I left in disgust before the end. Can’t fault the effort, and the start was sensational but without carving out a clear chance. But the heads dropped alarmingly again, and the only conclusion is we aren’t good enough.

Muric, Berge - escape criticism.
Odobert, Vitinho - anonymous.
Foster - some great runs but no end product.

Biggest problem I have is naivety. We set up to play 2-5-3 and Eddie ruthlessly exploited it. The irony is that the main culprit who was absent without leave from his zone (Vitinho) was ruthlessly exploited by players who are far from Newcastle’s star names. Gordon on the other side was handled better (albeit not great). Playing a raw right back at left back ahead of a seasoned Premier League left back like Taylor is madness, total madness, and makes me (along with the Muric delay) question the judgement and decision making. I’m still behind Kompany, but he is currently on a steep learning curve at this level and not there yet. Remember, few elite players make great managers. In time, I still think he will be one, but it hasn’t worked this season, and that is on Vincent.

Started well then imploded.

How many times this season has the whole ground gone up for a pen, and the ref ignored it? Then we look back on the replay later and it's a stone wall pen. Getting fed up with it now.

Muric 7
Assignon 6
O’Shea 6
Estève 5
Vitinho 4
Berge 7
Cullen 4
Odobert 3
Brownhill 3
Bruun Larsen 3
Foster 3

Ekdal 6
Guðmundsson 7

Once again our attacking players let us down. Losing the ball time after time in key areas, and allowing Newcastle to break at will. That was on a par with the worst performance of the season for me.

Muric 7

Assignon 4 - might have been heavily involved in the first 20 minutes but produced nothing and then shocking defensively.
O’Shea 6
Esteve 5
Vitinho 4 - forgot he was playing apart from the numerous times when he needlessly gave the ball away to the opposition.

Cullen 6
Berge 7
Brownhill 3 - ok at getting some challenges in early on but such a lack of ability and composure on the ball at this level.

Larsen 4
Odobert 4
Foster 4 - not sure he is mentally or physically fit enough to be playing. Looks every inch the player many of us questioned last season at the moment. We have been badly in need of a proper number 9 all season. Not going for Gyokeres looks a major error now.

Ekdal 5
