Who stays who goes ?
With the writing on the wall who stays and who goes out of this squad? That squad size is unsustainable in the Championship, could easily make a case for about 25% of them to go..

Re: Who stays who goes ?
Ideally I'd like to see our squad with no loanees in it.
I'd also hope we offload those players we've loaned out who have no PL future should we go up again.
Not much to do there

It’s a hugely bloated squad, even by Premier League standards.

Re: Who stays who goes ?
I would absolutely love to know how the manager has been allowed to assemble such a bloated, unbalanced, and underpowered squad. At a cost of well in excess of £100m as well. Does anybody hold the guy to account?
As for who stays, I’d love to keep the lads we know will get sweat on their shirt, but most of those guys will be going anyway, so I’m not really arsed about anyone else. O’Shea and Cullen never hide so keep those two.

Re: Who stays who goes ?
For me:
Trafford - absolutely sell if anyone is stupid enough to offer even 70% of what we paid.
O’Shea - keep but has a price - could be used to recoup some of the funds required.
Taylor - 50/50 class player but doesn’t suit us.
Cork - can go
Beyer - keep
JBG - keep, good player worth nothing though.
Brownhill - sell - should get a decent fee.
Rodriguez - can go for me.
Benson - keep but he’ll want to go.
Redmond - get rid - why did we bother signing him?
Berge - will need to be sold.
Foster - will have a price, probably sell
Ekdal - keep
Assignon - keep if we can but doubt it.
Ramsey - keep because he’s worth nothing now but if anyone is stupid enough to offer a lot I would be pleased to see the back of him. Worst £15 million player I’ve ever seen.
Vitinho - keep but may get a decent offer.
Fofana - absolutely get rid
Cullen - keep
Al-Dakhil - keep
Amdouni - keep (doubt anyone will pay enough)
Vigouroux - keep
Koleosho - keep if we can
Tresor - get rid if we can.
Esteve - keep
JBL - if he is joining, keep.
Massengo - keep
Delcroix - keep, will be good by championship standards
Odobert - try to keep but will have a price - should be quite a high price.
Agyei - ?
Muric - keep if Trafford goes
Out on loan
Egan-Riley - loan again
Twine - keep
Weghorst - get rid
Roberts - keep but think he’ll want to go
Zaroury - keep
McNally - loan again
Bastien - keep as back up
Churlinov - get rid
Dodgson - ?
Obafemi - get rid (why did we buy him?)
Costelloe - sell

Scary when you see the actual size of the squad written down. Massive summer ahead, we can't afford to balls up the way we did last summer.

Alan and his starry eyed colleagues, allowing Vincent free reign, naively thinking that every player he signs will bring the cash rolling in and us comfortable in the Premier League.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 8:37 pmI would absolutely love to know how the manager has been allowed to assemble such a bloated, unbalanced, and underpowered squad. Brownhill
Massengo
JBG
Benson
Zaroury
Koleosho
Odobert

Re: Who stays who goes ?
Interestingly, the thinking on who goes is largely consistent. Big focus is on making it happen and we ship them out, recouping money and saving wages. But we need to ensure our more prized jewels ie Berge, Odobert, Koleosho, Muric, Cullen, Amdouini stay
Re: Who stays who goes ?
Yep. The nonsense that Alan Pace was spouting over the summer about doing everything possible to keep hold of the most beautiful girl in town just seemed like a cringey soundbite at the time, but it was clearly factored in to the summer activities.

£120m on an entire squad of 25 is absolute peanuts for the PL, Newcastle spent more than half of that on one player Isak.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 8:37 pmI would absolutely love to know how the manager has been allowed to assemble such a bloated, unbalanced, and underpowered squad. Go - Vincent plz.
Re: Who stays who goes ?
Jordan Beyer will be here next season, or VK will be lads, one or the other but 100% not both. You can hang your hat on that, bookmark it or do whatever you want with it. That's all I'll say on that.
I'm not seeing the clamour for Muric's signature that people seem to be anticipating almost as a foregone conclusion.
He's a great keeper, and I love him to bits, but he quite simply is erratic and costs goals.
Berge to a lesser extent. He rightly takes some credit for a recent spell of form towards the back end of the season but for swarthes of it he's been just as anonymous and lacking fight, bottle and urgency as the rest of them. He's played his part in taking two teams down now and he can't hide behind being a junior member of this side.
Great players at champ levelind.
If any of these lilly livered sausages had anything about them they'd want to make amends and we could jettison the chaff which would hopefully give us wiggle room in finances to keep the better ones together.
The chaff being:
Trafford
Vigoroux
Al Dakhil
Delcroix
Assignon (not ours, would keep otherwise)
Beyer (as mentioned)
Taylor (Wages)
Brownhill (don't see him signing on again)
Benson (we've absolutely ****** it. insanity)
Churlinov
Bastien
Redmond
Cork (thanks for everything son)
Obafemi
Amdouni
J-Rod (as Cork)
Roberts
Weghorst
Twine
McNally

Hope we keep:
O'Shea, Berge, Cullen, Koleosho, Beyer, Esteve & Muric.
Hope we actively try to shift
Tresor & Weghorst also JT, Ramsey & Amdouni (if we can get close to the same money back for them). Foster also increasingly close to this category for me as well.
The rest - meh, won't lose sleep over any of them.

Re: Who stays who goes ?
Assume we get rid of a keeper, Roberts Beyer (cos he's saleable and not a first choice) McNally, Berge, Brownhill and Odobert for cash, plus a couple of the squad players, and that Taylor, Cork and Rodriguez leave on frees, and Brunn Larsen, Fofana and Tresor go back to their parent club.
That brings us in a significant cash, and leaves us with the makings of a decent squad. There's plenty of quality, pace and power. It will need building out in midfield and at left back but its a very strong nucleus. What it will need above all else is the additional of a bit of experience and character to create the dressing room ownership that has been missing a bit this season.

What it will need above all else is the additional of a bit of experience and character to create the dressing room ownership that has been missing a bit this season.

Re: Who stays who goes ?
Must say I find the comments about Ramsey a little bizarre. I don't think there's a doubt there's a player in there and he has already performed very well in the Championship at Boro. If he's regained his fitness I'd have thought he might be a really valuable player next season in the Championship and the sort of player we can build around in midfield with Cullen.Poulton-le-Claret wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 10:23 pmHope we keep:
O'Shea, Berge, Cullen, Koleosho, Beyer, Esteve & Muric.
Hope we actively try to shift
Tresor & Weghorst also JT, Ramsey & Amdouni (if we can get close to the same money back for them). Foster also increasingly close to this category for me as well.
The rest - meh, won't lose sleep over any of them.

If we’re relying on performances at Dundee we’re screwed.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 9:56 pmMicheal Mellon scored again and we need to be integrating him in the first team pool.Owen Dodgson has played well for Dundee and is worth keeping as a back up left back.
As for the main question, there are remarkably few players I’d miss if they left this season.
Full reset required, and that may include the manager.

Re: Who stays who goes ?
That is where I really doubt him - fitness. Feels like he has been struggling with injuries already so much in his early career that he is/was a massive gamble. I think he could be a decent player, just can we rely on him to stay fit.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 10:32 pmMust say I find the comments about Ramsey a little bizarre. In all honesty I fully expect him to be here next season, so I am hoping he can step up.

We might have spent more than Everton in one window but what does that mean? They’ve spent a fuckin fortune previously assembling that squad. Same with the others. We’d need to spend another £500m to be close to Everton’s PL spend with Moshiri and we’d probably still be short.BigChaCha wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 9:32 pmWe weren't competing with Newcastle and look who we spent more than below -
Brighton & Hove Albion
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Brentford FC
Fulham FC
Crystal Palace
Sheffield United
Everton FC
Luton Town
Anyone who doesn't think we wasted that £100+m in the summer window, needs to take up watching netball instead!
