Why we are going down
This isn’t Traffords fault or a dig at Trafford but we are simply going down because kompany refused to play the best goalkeeper at the club for the first 28 games of the season, simple as that.

Re: Why we are going down
It's cos we are nowhere near good enough, there are too many players who aren't committed enough and we can't score ot defend
Re: Why we are going down
No we are going down because our team and manager are the second worse in the league over a full season ..if we had played both goalkeepers at once each and every game we would still have gone down

Because when push comes to shove in the grand scheme of the prem we are rubbish.

The rumours about having to play Trafford could be plausible.

Not signing Tella and THB
Signing Trafford,Ramsay, Redmond instead of Townsend and signing Tressor.
Not playing Charlie at left back. Not signing a ball winner in cm.

Re: Why we are going down
The performance today was similar to some of those early capitulations which Trafford was often singled out in without making any direct errors that led to goals.
I think we’re better with Muric, but suspect his impact has been slightly overblown. Even in the better run of results, we’ve still conceded **** goals, been careless in possession and lacked a cutting edge going forward. It’s a lack or experience and knowhow within the team for me that’s ultimately been our downfall.
Even if Muric had played all season, I’m not sure that difference alone would have kept us up. The issues with the squad went deeper than that.

If you keep going you'll find the true answers to 'why we are going down' and it's not as 'simple' as Trafford being in goals and not Muric.

Re: Why we are going down
All of our defenders have had many very good games with the odd “slip” thrown in.
Our MF has been adequate but up front we are so far off the necessary standard for the PL.
It appears that when our front man holds the ball he has no idea where his colleagues will be running to create a good chance. It all appears so off the cuff.
Newcastles movement today was superb. Every forward and MFer knew when they received the ball where their options would be going and it made their play so much slicker than ours.
We should come back up, all things being equal but the season after will be no better without major investment and I can’t see it coming.

Re: Why we are going down
It ultimately is, everything starts from the goalkeeper, especially how we play and again I’m making it clear this isn’t any shade on Trafford, it’s not his fault he got chucked in the deep end. It’s on kompany for picking him when he is nowhere near readyBin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 7:19 pmAh you've expanded on your nonsense opening post.

Re: Why we are going down
Today was like one of our early season performances. Defence constantly under pressure due to the total ineptness of those further forward.
Re: Why we are going down
We haven’t taken care of the ball enough. It’s that simple. If you want to play possession based football you need to look after it.
SD methods were largely successful because he knew being able to defend well we’d overcome not having the ball as much.
It’s as though VK expects his team to have the ball and create chance after chance. We’ve given sloppy goals away, not created enough and simply not made the most of set pieces.

Re: Why we are going down
Not quite that simple, but I do agree it's a huge contributing factor. The rest of the players not being good enough, consistently enough is actually right up there. As is poor tactics, poor team selection and individual blunders which most professional footballers at any level would be embarrassed to make.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 6:56 pmThis isn’t Traffords fault or a dig at Trafford but we are simply going down because kompany refused to play the best goalkeeper at the club for the first 28 games of the season, simple as that.

We need to come up with a team that is a lot more resilient in the Championship instead of trying to play like th 1970 Brazil team. Basically we look like Norwich did on their two last sorties into the EPL.

I'm certain we can put a promotable squad together next season (assuming we go down, of course), but it's still likely to look fragile at the higher level.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 7:39 pm

Re: Why we are going down
Going down due to a combination of very poor management, poor coaching and not having players of PL standard.
I watched it on a stream today, and we were fantastic for about 15 minutes-moving it sweetly and making good runs. Eddie Howe sees whats going on and snubs out Assignon and gets his team to attack Vitinho's side.It lead to three goals. No way are VK and Bellamy able to see things like this and react, and it looks like Jackson and Bellamy dont stand up to VK with team selection and changes during play.
The players started giving it away endlessly and Newcastle dominated the rest of the first half. By then it was all over. 4-0 down and VK makes a change with two thirds of game gone. He just is not the same manager as last year, and I fear how much this has damaged him.
In terms of players, we maybe have two players of PL quality and both are debatable-Muric and Berge. We really are a mess

For a team that wants to play possession based football, we don’t half give the ball away cheaply and press / close down poorly.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 8:02 pm

JBL for their first (I think) was really weak, O’Shea, Vitinho, Brownhill awful when it came to picking a man, Odobert anonymous for long stretches, Foster a shadow of who we saw earlier in the season.
For a game that we needed points from, the ‘performance’ was appallingly bad, after the first ten or fifteen…. This team has no bottle or a leader on the pitch - once that first goal went in, you could see the team deflate.
Simply not good enough and so many problems that need sorting.

I think the squad balance/transfer dealings weren’t good enough. Too inexperienced, too many attacking fwds. I understand the need for resale value but could we not have sacrificed a few of them for a Prem experienced CB, CM & CF?
Maybe I’m being final unrealistic, but it had better chance of instant results and allow the talented youngsters learn around them…

Kompany addressed this a few weeks back. In a press conference he said:Passing Clouds wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 11:00 pmI think the squad balance/transfer dealings weren’t good enough. Maybe I’m being final unrealistic, but it had better chance of instant results and allow the talented youngsters learn around them…
- the club set the strategy (ergo not him)
- the reason for got going for experience is because financially it was not plausible as experienced players will not take pay cuts if relegated (they view it as the clubs issue) and have no resale value as they’re on high wages.
- therefore the approach was to balance younger with our experience (presumably JRod, JBG, Charlie, Brownhill, Cullen and Berge are also decent ages).
I think we made mistakes in summer. I think privately Kompany and the club would acknowledge that, but I also though it makes a lot of sense when he explained it.

The hubris that came from the success of building a new team for the Championship and thinking we could do the same for the Premier League.
There's no warm-up period in this league, you will be playing teams you need to take points from the off.

Re: Why we are going down
Our defense
Roberts and Taylor should have played more.
Muric as our no. 1 all season.
Plenty of games Cork would have been great even just to see out games. We have dumped over 20 points from winning positions.
Tean selection and use of Subs / Game management has been the real issue.
That falls to VK.
Losing plyers like Tella and HarwoodB also.
Even Barnes!!!
Pace has to accept some responsibility.
Are we a Football Club or a Player Farm?
