the first question is obvious - Now why would you want to do that?
It has been though for some time now that Aston Villa have been close to the limits regarding PSR rules - not that is should make a difference given that they are supposedly bound by the much tighter UEFA rules having returned to continental competition

Re: Football's Magic Money Tree
Any reasonable discussion should consider the views and needs of all interested parties, and as we well know the reason there is such commercial interest in the Premier League overseas is because there are passionate fan interests there too, though often (not always, look at Wrexham) that only really applies to the biggest and most successful teams.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2024 10:26 pmIn the above piece NBC freely admitted that they would love a couple of in season games to be played in the US - to them (and many others) it is a logical step in the growth of the Premier League. Of course the Premier league know that it is quite a complex issue, with Richard Masters stating quite clearly last week that it would be a difficult one for domestic fans to accept, so this comes as no surprise to anyone.

this article only really begins to tap into the debate, it needs to go deeper and wider, but the final point perhaps illustrates an inevitable route of travel, because to the vast majority it is this more than anything that counts. this is a fascinating and somewhat disturbing insight into the 777 Partners mindset - how an opportunity to get ahead on Boeings order book (which is easy now given their safety tribulations) saw 777 run with an investment opportunity in Australia, which experienced industry investors thought was highly questionable even with much smaller 72 seater aircraft, was picked up and ran with on 180 seater aircraft - it defied logic and now sees the business in administration, though seems to fit right in with a lot of what new investors in football believe they can achieve in/from the beautiful game

There is seemingly little concern in the boardrooms of these organisations about the the independence and history of those clubs that are acquired to pursue 'higher' goals. So far despite ever growing protests, there has been little that fans have been able to do to stop the acquisition of their club (NEC Breda apart).

Re: Football's Magic Money Tree
From their activities in searching for funds it is not beyond reason that 777 Partners are themselves looking for a partner to join their bid for Everton - So what are they like to partner with. If the A-Cap experience isn't enough to put you off, and let's be honest it really should, then the ex[erience of their co-owners in the football operations should. we have head a lot about the clubs where 777 Partners have the controlling share, but at Everton that may no longer be possible. So what about clubs where they are minority shareholders?

Re: Football's Magic Money Tree
I have long argued that the biggest distorting factor in the financial picture of English Football is not the Premier league but the Champions League and UEFA's payments to the participants. Next season sees not only a revised format, but also an increased distribution pot (and methodology) which will make this distortion even more pronounced (the fact only four English clubs will be involved will exaggerate it further and for Manchester City in particular).

Here we get a lot of detail about this latest lawsuit that has been heavily trailed in the media as a Ponzi scheme run by 777 Partners, a suit that claims A-Cap and it's owner were in on the scam and why this should (not will), finally, bring an end to their bid for Everton.

Looks like a classic case of empty offices filled with obsolete crap registered as trading companies; they take some taking out, as each has to be gone after, individually: when it does go it is the proverbial house of cards leading to the heart… that is also often massively over valued in the paperwork. I once got caught up a similar web; that took years for the revenue to sort out and cost me a business and even my home, before they did- and being under suspicion of being involved, was horrific and caused my breakdown long before my name was cleared… but there was not penny in recompense, there simply was no pot of gold to claim from.

As ever the latest podcast from Unofficial Partner is a fascinating discussion - put to one side opinions about the ECA - there is a rapidly growing level underneath the hyper-elite at the ECA which, as they have rapidly grown in number, are starting to develop their own voice. A couple of weeks ago they all met in in Madrid for a first time event called ECA connect - during this was this event
Incidentally at the same time Mike Smith of ALK/VSL was at a rival event with the, much newer, much smaller Union of European Clubs and being elected to it's first Executive Board, at the moment they are a big deal to the UEC, and a big club (in terms of revenue) but have they jumped on the wrong bandwagon? I note Brentford were part of the discussion below.

It sounds like it is going to be an intriguing few months off the field at Real Madrid - many in the UK love the idea of member owned clubs, but they are not without their complicating factors, if Florentino Perez's final act is the gift of a hybrid approach, they just may start to get their finances under control

Re: Football's Magic Money Tree
It is possibly the most controversial ranking in Football - Sportico have released their annual listing of the 50 most valuable Football clubs in world football. The top 10 is dominated by the usual suspects but no league gets close to the MLS with 20 entrants
World's 50 Most Valuable Soccer Clubs 2024 Ranking
The 50 most valuable soccer clubs in the world are worth a total of $79.6 billion, according to data compiled by Sportico. The Premier League's Manchester United ranks first at $6.2 billion, while Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo FC is No. 50 at $550 million. The top 10 richest teams are all in Europe, but MLS landed 20 clubs overall in the top 50, followed by the EPL with nine.

This is what Sportico have to say about it
MOST VALUABLE SOCCER CLUBS 2024: MAN UNITED LEADS, TOP 50 WORTH $80B
https://archive.ph/GVwS2
Meanwhile The Athletic looks at it a bit deeper, picking out themes and trends, mainly for English readers, interestingly it seems largely accepting of the methodology and the article is free of criticism

It might be a bit further away but I am sure the owners of Leeds and Nottingham Forest want similar, as do the owners of Birmingham City who have announced plans of moving to a 60k+ ground and campus, and we cannot forget the respective merits of Everton and Sheffield Wednesday (under different ownership) or of Sunderland who have a billionaire owner, but as of yet is not prepared to splash the cash.
