Brad Friedel

Post by ClaretsPadiham » Wed May 08, 2024 6:46 pm

On Ben Fosters podcast, says he had a bag of human **** thrown at him at Turf Moor.

Says he and all the Blackburn players could not believe the hatred between the two teams and never realised it was so fierce.

The December 2000 fixture against them lot at Turf Moor was defiantly the most hostile the Turf has ever been in recent times, you could feel the pure hate in the stands and what happened after the game speaks for itself.

Sad times. Have those pathetic excuses for human beings grown up yet?

There was no bag of shite thrown at them.

It was live on sky, they would have picked it up on the cameras.

Stop believing ex players on podcasts. They add VAT on a story every time they tell it.

The thing about the bag of faeces… I have absolutely no doubt that he will have parried it perfectly, or even caught it and disposed of it, such was his brilliance in goal. I hated the fact that he played for Blackburn, because in truth, he was a damn good goalkeeper and a brilliant professional.

I can remember the stand roof being dismantled at Barstewards ground and the police doing a charge through the stand. Very frightening indeed. 🫣

I was with my wife and left at halftime after Jason McAteer scored. Never seen so much vitriol in a football ground. Trouble was certain unfortunately

Arguably the only Blackburn player I'll publicly admit to being an absolutely brilliant player.

In actual fact Friedal was wrong, it was fatty Dunne's colon and anus after Kevin Balls tackle. Easy mistake to make in the heat of the moment.

Thank God someone made good use of this thread.

Brad Friedel is one of the best keepers in the last 30 years IMHO. An excellent professional.

I would add Tugay Kerimoglu to that. Scored some thunderbolts.

Similar to Defour - had circumstances fallen more favourably he’d have played for a top club.

Friedel seems to have done, not sure about the rest of the squad.

A serious question did Burnley fans really smash their own town up after the game ? Or was just one shop window smashed by some dickhead

Liverpool went through a succession of very average goalkeepers whilst Friedel played for Blackburn. It was a very strange decision to let him leave.

Micah Hyde's goal in the cup will forever be one of my favourite claret moments, partly down to the keeper he managed to lob. And our first goal against them in my lifetime!

It’s a strange one for me … I was 16 and remember more about being nervous before the match than the actual match itself.

Think my brain blocked it out

Great keeper who often performed miracles for Rovers . The story about the bag of 💩 is likely well “ a bag of Shiite” that these podcasts usually need a mildly amusing story wether true or not .
Though the ground was a proper derby atmosphere, there was no trouble before or after the game around the ground between rival fans . Pretty sure a lot of the younger BFC fans were pretty lairy in town afterwards though .

It was the shoe shop window.

The police pushed everyone back from under the culvert to the town centre.

Not the best move when most people were trying to get to the bus/train stations.

I don't know if I'm making this up or not but in my mind their win at the Turf was more comprehensive than the bending over we got at Ewood.

Yes, yes, I know. Ignore the goals for a moment. To my teenage mind at the Turf they just looked taller, stronger, faster and just generally better.

Could be that I saw it in on the flesh rather than on TV, and perhaps the undoubted dominance that comes with a sending off is distorting my memory, but still. Anyone else?

I went to both games and they wiped the floor with us in both, however we made some ridiculous errors to make it even easier for them at Ewood. I think even Craig Short, a defender, scored twice.

Ian Moore did put the ball in the net, but it was offside.

Think the nearest we came to scoring in the fixture at Turf Moor was inside the first minute. A quick break down the right wing by Ian Moore and a cross was just missed by a lunging Graham Branch. That was about it.
