Hull City Chairman

Post by Poulton-le-Claret » Wed May 15, 2024 9:12 pm

He is hosting a forum with their fans tonight and has been brutally honest by all accounts. A few of the bits I have picked up:

- Sacked Rosenior as he felt he wasn't using their full attacking potential that he wanted to see.
- He has put a £10m bid in for Delap.
- Basically said their GK (Allsop) hasn't been good enough.
- Called Aaron Connolly a wimp.
- Compared Harry Vaughan to George Best.

I reckon we could use more openness from our Chairman, not sure about a public rant though

My Hull City supporting mate said he will be very happy if they can get him on a permanent deal, but I agree with you, £10m feels very steep!

Is it? Been excellent for them this season. Only 21.

Having said that it’s a lot for a team without any parachute payments for sure!

What's the point in employing a manager when the chairman is clearly much better !

Didn't someone on here say we should sign Hull's keeper?

Could probably get him cheap now.

I've been to a few Hull games this season and Delap has looked OK but I wouldn't have said excellent, particularly in comparison to some of their other players. He is obviously only young though.

It looks like it is Man City who are getting the premium for their players now. Man Utd had it for years ad then Liverpool more recently.

Red flags should be going up and klaxons sounding if your owner/chairman starts talking like this.

In the words of Sybil Fawlty, speaking about the builder, O'reilly

"The reason he's cheap, is he's no bloody good"

The crazy Turk at it again ! Imagine if your chairman showed he knew literally nothing about football and then decided to almost pick the team !

What else has he done over than sack Rosenior that would make him 'crazy'? I thought until this decision he had had a fairly ordinary spell as owner (especially compared to Allam), although i don't know much about him.

That was the previous owner, Allam. He wanted to rename them Hull City Tigers.

That's a joke what he said about Rosenior.

He thinks they're West Ham.

8 in 31 though this year and 4 in 37 last season with Stoke/Preston. A record of 12 in 68 isn’t prolific and if we were spending it I’d be thinking it was a big risk.

(Not to say he won’t go on to be a very good player)

Not just aimed at you as someone else mentioned it too and it’s common discourse, but I find using x number of goals in y number of appearances a really poor way of recognising a players worth/judging someone. It leaves so many questions

How many sub appearances? What were the goals per 90? What else does he bring to the team? What position was he playing? How does his goals scored compare with expected goals scored? What’s his actual profile and does it suit a higher level? What other core attributes does he have? Accurate with shots? Any assists? Expected assists? What’s his potential? Does he suit the team and club?

FWIW I’ve seen him play several times this season and he’s played off the right quite frequently, Hull missed his powerful running and athleticism massively when he was out. He has come on leaps and bounds since men’s football season 1 (first two loans). I’d hope we are in for him with a loan with option to buy if promoted but it sounds like PL clubs are in now.

Kane was pretty shite in terms of goalscoring return in his early loans......

Yeah, because limited sources suggest we splurged on one player means we should risk overpaying on everyone as it's not as bad. Weird logic imo.

Where did i suggest we would be interested in signing Delap?

It was merely an observation on the apparent market value for Man City youngsters

Wolves signed Tommy Doyle from Man City for only £4m a couple of weeks ago.

Well I think it was £14m rising to £19m if he wins the ballon d’or, etc

Taking the reported ‘guaranteed’ number I think it was pretty cheap for a full England squad member and whether it’s this summer or in future, we’ll make a very good return.

Not so sure on Delap, although tbf in-form strikers do tend to go for the most £.

Think, very smartly, they had a pre-agreed fee in the loan contract. Something we frankly f**ked up by not having.

But they also got Doyle for such a low fee because it was part of the Nunes deal, I believe.
