By the way. Steve Albini died last week. He produced Surfer Rosa, as well as a whole host of other great albums, from Nirvana to PJ Harvey. What a legacy he leaves behind.

Ziggy Stardust. I used to like this album both back in the day and quite a number years after. I revisited it a few years ago and found it bland! Yet I still consider Who's Next is a good album.

And I still love from the same era: Free - Fire and Water:

From your username I take it you’re a Springsteen fan so not surprised you have good taste. Sound of Lies is a real beauty of an album …I particularly love the song Haywire but it’s all good. So far as Lucinda is concerned I think her debut is even better than Car Wheels but only because of the purity of her voice when she was younger. As she’s matured I’ve come to think of her as a bit of a female equivalent of Springsteen .

Hi St. Albans

We've interacted on Springsteen threads in the past, I think . I saw him in Cardiff the week before last and it was probably one of the most memorable of all his gigs I've been too. Dying On The Vine is my favourite from the Sound Of Lies but I love every single track. Behind Born To Run and Countdown To Ecstasy it's probably my third favourite album of all time.

Loved that period of Julian Cope along with Jehovahkill which always reminds me of living in a cold damp flat in the early 90s was the soundtrack to which was a.pretty miserable winter in my life.I think i will dig it out later today

Stones Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street. Had them on loop since the new year but I still can't decide which of the three I think is their best. If push came to shove i'd probably side with Let it Bleed until I played one of the other two :)

Love threads like this.

Even though you know what you like (and I am parked firmly in the 80s 90s indie / post punk parking space) if you’re an inquisitive type there’s always suggestions of bands you know the name of but have never listened to and you go off and discover them. And a lot you won’t like but then some you do and it’s brilliant.
The wealth of musical knowledge of other people never ceases to amaze me.

I’m seeing him in Sunderland next Wednesday…your post is reassuring as I’ve felt a bit anxious that , at 74, he won’t be able to bring the magic as much as previously. Mind you the Cardiff set list was absolutely fantastic. Oh and yeah Dying on the Vine isnt too far behind Haywire as a killer track.

Scheffler comes across as a decent fella to me. He has put out a statement saying that it was a genuine mistake and he never intended to cause any harm. Maybe they are just words but I am prepared to believe him for the time being.

There is also the argument that you transform some people into power crazed ego maniacs if you give them a uniform, a badge and a gun.

Sorry Charlie, it’s a “Red Herring”. No such album, no such band - I chucked it in because these UTC music threads end up in a “name the most obscure band/track you can think of” competition, but now having read your other reply (about how you are amazed at the music knowledge on this board) I feel a little guilty…. So have these three on me.

Bob Dylan - Infidels. Blood on the tracks. Street Legal. All very different, all wonderful.
