Sadly not JBL though and obviously Assingnon.
Would’ve preferred JBL to have the have the obligation, he mustn’t have fancied the Championship.

I really like Esteve.
I'm attempting to be positive about Tresor.

Re: Tresor and Esteve
VK said something like 'we had 2 players out of the Belgian league in Benson and Zaroury and Resor had 20 assists in the league', then he implied a season in the Championship might be good for him

Re: Tresor and Esteve
My big issue with him is is general lack of strength on the ball & decision making. He made so many daft decisions trying to turn players on the edge of his box or whatever.
My worry generally next season is we won’t have to worry about stuff like that because we’ll invariably be attacking, or if we do it we won’t be punished because the opposition won’t have the quality to capitalise on the mistake. So I worry he won’t learn.
But I do agree there’s a really good player in there and he will come good in the Championship.

That was what he said, sounded like we wanted to sign them but no option to do so (I thought there was in JBL’s contract but obviously not).Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 2:08 pmunless I misheard it he said "they are discussions we need to have, they both really enjoy being here'

Some interesting other comments, reading between the lines:
said in both cases that they try to show their appreciation to those players, how much we rate them and make Burnley feel like home. Nothing really other than you would expect but a good attitude towards it all.
- Passion Assingnon showed in his last game was not that of a loan player. Fair point, I thought.
- Haven’t had the conversations re: staying yet, expects them to go & take advice from their advisors in summer.
Way I read it was “we do all we can to attract them to the club but when they go off in summer there’s every chance their advisors persuade them to go elsewhere”… may be a slightly negative take.

Re: Tresor and Esteve
I hope we start Tresor on Sunday. He’s been awful but he’s not had a run of games and he’s not alone in struggling. Hes here now and we need to get him firing as he will certainly be expected to be a stand out player in the league we’re about to be in. Clean slate from me and I hope everyone.

Re: Tresor and Esteve
Was just about to post about Tresor. The club have just uploaded a video of him doing some community stuff with Taylor. It was actually really good to see him getting involved in that stuff with a smile on his face and spoke really well at the end.
I posted earlier in the season how we aren't seeing enough of the players behind the scenes and this kind of thing is why it's so important. It definitely improved my perception of Tresor from just a 60 second clip.
Would ge really be doing it at this point of the season if he was leaving? Surely he would just say no

You'd hope that Tresor, a player that's barely featured for us but that got 20 assists last season and played and scored in the Champions League earlier this season, will have a point to prove going forward.

Re: Tresor and Esteve
I’d be amazed if “the ghost” as he apparently called himself wants to be here after Sunday. I was though also amazed he hasn’t played more. He needed a steep learning curve, you don’t get that sat in a box watching the game.
Surely we have to play someone like Tresor ahead of JBL tomorrow? Who knows, set up a goal or two and it could transform him. He certainly has the ability. But this in Vinny, he always gives us a crazy selection, like playing a loan player who is about to depart in a dead rubber.

Fair enough, but how far down do we need to go before that becomes apparent?
I’m aware we haven’t yet kicked a championship ball in anger, but everything I have seen of Mike so far would suggest he’s just not up for it, or to it.

Absolutely. The only players on the pitch on Sunday, should be those who are staying.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 2:47 pmI’d be amazed if “the ghost” as he apparently called himself wants to be here after Sunday. Re: Tresor and Esteve
Decent presser that. Some good questions asked and VK seemed a bit more thoughtful today.
Few bits that interested me:
- bbc lancs guy mentioned we will be seen as a big fish next season with parachute payments etc, Kompany more or less agreed but was quick to point out last season we weren’t a parachute team (we know they went to pay off debt), why is this interesting me now… does it suggest the parachute money won’t be going to repay debt this time? (otherwise he prob would have mentioned it)
- and with that, less downplaying of promotion expectations like we had when he joined, fully accepts that’s the aim.
- squad being in a ‘healthy’ place but some players may have ‘outgrown’ the Championship (Berge I’m guessing is one)… albeit the ‘need’ to sell them (name called McNeil) wont be as intense as the last relegation
- agree with NewClaret above and VK that Assignon has shown an incredible amount of passion since coming here for a loan player, was some poor comments on him last weekend imo
- hope Tresor stays next season

Re: Tresor and Esteve
I'd say that's more matter of fact. It is what it is. When the players are off with their mates, family and agent on their holiday some will no doubt have their heard turned regardless. Only so much we can do.
Re: Tresor and Esteve
One thing that stood out for me was his reaction to being asked about Brownhills future. There was a lot of hesitation around that answer that there wasn't with any other which makes me think there's a very good chance he will be leaving

Sounds like we would like to keep JBL and assignon, but the decisions will rest with the players. No need to sell anyone, but won't stand in way of players progression.

Re: Tresor and Esteve
We’ve not seen enough of him really and certainly not enough in his best position (on the left) with a natural attacking left back to link with. He impressed me at Fulham away and Liverpool at home. But apart from that, such as the cameo at home to Luton, admittedly hasn’t been good. I guess the hope is he can find the form of last season at Genk (28 assists) which took them into the Champions League & Belgian national team. A player I feel will shine when we are dominating the ball again. I recall seeing Genk fans comment on him being a confidence player which perhaps explains what we’ve seen so far too. Natural replacement for Odobert who will inevitably leave, so hopefully he stays.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 3:17 pmVarious posters keep making comments that Tresor will come good and that “there’s a player in there” but I wish I could see anything at all to justify this belief. Re: Tresor and Esteve
Money well spent then.. not. And here was I hoping there was a clause in the contract/deal for Tresor.
Never mind, I suppose 15 million quid is small beer in this crazy world of football?

Looks as though the efforts to pull the plug on the Trésor deal have failed
Re: Tresor and Esteve
Which presumably means Tresor has now signed for a club he knows doesn't want to sign him, for a club record transfer fee. WonderfulClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 3:40 pmLooks as though the efforts to pull the plug on the Trésor deal have failed

c£17m on a winger who might turn out to be good enough for the Championship is a lot of money.

15 million, 13 million and 17 million all quoted within a few posts, nobody has any idea what we paid for him, how much of it was add ons etc etc. Whatever it was we've seen zero return on the investment so far

Re: Tresor and Esteve
BECAUSE he's being played on the wrong wing, if played on the left he can whip in a ball with his left foot on the go, but on the right he needs to stop adjust his body turn angle to put the ball in with his stronger left after he's done all that the defender had the time then to be on him, Kompany for what ever reason plays him in the wrong position

Re: Tresor and Esteve
I think they may be basing it on the fact that he got Belgian player of the season with 20+ assists in a league that Benson and Zaroury hardly got game time in.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 3:17 pmVarious posters keep making comments that Tresor will come good and that “there’s a player in there” but I wish I could see anything at all to justify this belief. Maybe DougCollins is trusting the scouting we did on a stand out player in the Belgian league.
Tresor apparently took a season to settle in at Genk, so who knows what might happen in the coming season.

Up to the manager to get the best out of them.

Tresor looking interested would be a start. I get all players are different but he's barely broken a sweat in the games he's played in so far.

How many times do people need to see young players moving to a new country struggle in their first season then tear it up in their second before they learn to give players a chance?
