Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Sad to lose Gudmondsson. Probably been the most reliable player since VK took over.
Surprised but pleased to hear we may keep Charlie Taylor.

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Both have been fantastic professionals thanks for some great memories.
Re: Cork & JBG leaving
And so it begins.
Not really a surprise. JBG could have done a job for another season I think.
Hopefully they get a bit of a send-off tomorrow.

Sad to hear, but not unexpected. Wish them both well. Both served us very well.
Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Would have liked to have seen JBG stay. Surprised really.
Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Not surprised with Cork but wow what a player he's been!
JBG I thought would be useful in the championship he's been brilliant to watch over the years.
Surprised with the talks with Jay doesn't even make sense to be honest he isn't up to it anymore I'd rather a mobile Obafemi be on the bench than Jay next season.
Taylor is understandable at that level.

Fantastic servants and players for this club, shame about Johann, would have liked to have seen him play a part next season.
Re: Cork & JBG leaving
More surprised they want to retain Taylor than let JBG go. Desperately need a new left back that suits the system imo.
Early indication that Sander might stay (given JBG played central in the Champ)?
As for Cork & JBG, brilliant servants. Cork and Defour are my favourite ever midfield partnership at the club.

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
JBG is the one out of those out of contract that I would have kept. What a shame. I posted on another thread last week that JBG had made the most chances for us this season despite playing nowhere near as often as other players. A quality, intelligent, under rated player who has done well for us in both leagues.
Cork has shown his value whenever he's played despite being overlooked at times from SD and VK. Always maintained that we've been a better team whenever he's played. Another calm and intelligent player who's experience and nouse we'll miss.
Wish them both only the best. Thanks for the memories lads.

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Cork in his two spells been one of my favourite players.
JBG so much talent, just a shame his injuries over the years have cost him playing at full potential. First 6 months of the 17/18 season JBG and Brady were as good as any wingers in the league.
Would of triggered JBGs option but if letting him go means there’s a chance JBL is staying then it’s not a bad deal

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
I really didn’t understand why JBG is being released. He’s a far better player than many VK has brought in. JBG will still be a terrific championship player. I just don’t get that one.

Surprised at JBG leaving and Taylor and Jay in contract talks. Can understand trying to keep some experience but Jay’s body has really struggled these last couple of years and Taylor both hasn’t been up to it in this system and has clearly never been first choice under VK (unless his hand has been forced).

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Was quite noticeable at the end of the Newcastle game, he's exit off the pitch said everything, was clearly not happy, of course no one was happy at the result and almost inevitable confirmation of our relegation, but johann trudged off the pitch as if he'd simply had enough, wouldn't surprise me if he actually asked to leave in the end. However it could be a sign we're hopeful of brunn Larsen staying.
Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Big mistake to let JBG leave. He’s been a brilliant player for us and would still be my first pick out wide ahead of some of the questionable options we have. The very best of luck to him if he’s decided to try somewhere else now.
I think everyone thought that Jack Cork would be leaving but what an outstanding player he’s been. One of my favourites over the last 20 years.

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Echo the comments above - two great players for us in what has been a great period for the club and the fans. Could sense Cork getting a little emotional in that interview - I’m glad the club has meant so much to him.
Re: Cork & JBG leaving
JBG disappointed to see him leave, under used this season.
Cork - no shock
Jay Rod - not sure how he has earned a new contract
Taylor - great, 1 assist per season Charlie.

Flipping gutted!
Both wonderful pros!
To this day, I stand absolutely convinced that at least half of our fanbase didn’t see that we looked and statistically were a better side Corky in the middle. An absolutely magnificent player.

Probably looking for a longer deal than we'd (presumably) be offering him.
Anyway, best of luck to him, been a good player for us, just a shame about his injuries that seemed to dog him.

He doesn't have to ask to leave, his contract is at an end and even if and when offered he can turn it down.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 11:23 amWas quite noticeable at the end of the Newcastle game, he's exit off the pitch said everything, was clearly not happy, of course no one was happy at the result and almost inevitable confirmation of our relegation, but johann trudged off the pitch as if he'd simply had enough, wouldn't surprise me if he actually asked to leave in the end. Re: Cork & JBG leaving
In his interview Corky was very disappointed about his amount of game time this season, especially as he felt he was one of the best in training.
Both leaving us with so many wonderful memories, brilliant servants to the club and both will be missed.
Wish them both the very best.

No, of course. But I get the feeling even after the Newcastle game he made he's feelings known, just didn't look happy at all when walking off the pitch, body language said everything for me.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 11:29 amHe doesn't have to ask to leave, his contract is at an end and even if and when offered he can turn it down.

Gutting to lose them both. Hope we get to see them play one last time on Sunday, if only a cameo appearance.

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Corks interview, he’s clearly frustrated at the fact he’s trained well but not had a chance, such a saw because he’s experience could been vital
Re: Cork & JBG leaving
It makes even less sense if I do that. You've said the club have made a big mistake and then included it might be because he wants to leave - therefore not being a big mistake by the club.

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
If we can find a new, younger Jack Cork for our midfield, I’ll be delighted. He’s been such a good player for us.
Best of luck to both of them and thank you.

Heard JBG expressed discontent at the standards of training this season. Apparently standards had massively slipped. If true, can understand him wanting out but massive shame. He was the one I thought we may try to keep. Cork been a great servant but I think his time is up now. Likewise with Jay.

As for Cork he hasn’t played for 18 months so it was quite obvious he’d move on this summer.

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Taylor is still a very good left back whose never been disgraced in the prem , he’ll have no shortage of decent champ offers . imo he’s been criminally underused by VK , both in the way he’s been asked to play and his appearances. Jay has also been underused , as his movement and that touch of class was so often needed . Maybe time for him to move on though he’d still be useful .
Cork been finished at top level a while though could easily play on , JBG a great servant who could still do a job somewhere and clearly been unhappy . Is he still playing for Iceland ?

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
The worry is both players alluding to not playing enough or being frozen out which does coincide with the rumours about cliques and training standards dropping, even if the likes of cork, JBG and Jay are in their 30s? If they think they are trying at a high level and not getting a chance they have every right to be ****** off

Going to miss both of these guys, key players and great professionals during our good run in the Premier league.
Worrying to hear rumours that JBG was unhappy with the training standards slipping in this poor season. Hopefully VK will review the performance of his staff and take appropriate action....

Re: Cork & JBG leaving
Was there an option for another 12 months with JBG?
Don't have a problem with Jay Rod staying as a squad man. Thought we'd be looking for a left back more in the Maatsen mould though for next season.
