Re: Tresor and Esteve
Pleased with Esteve, not sure on Tresor, seems worse now that we tried to stop it. He must know that!

Has it been reported anywhere that we tried to stop it?Wokingclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 6:32 pmPleased with Esteve, not sure on Tresor, seems worse now that we tried to stop it. He must know that!

Re: Tresor and Esteve
Stephen Ward barely made an impression in his first season when we were relegated from the Premier League and took till midway into the next season before he became a regular starter. I think you would be hard pushed to find anyone on here who doesn't think Ward was a brilliant signing and a great player for BurnleyRileybobs wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 5:41 pmIt’s not fair to judge Tresor until we’ve been relegated, promoted again and then relegated again. He gets another 2 seasons at least for me, but if he’s not showing signs of improvement by December 2026 then I’d be looking to loan him out in the January window.
Tresor has been a disappointment this season but players can take time to settle and make their mark so I think its fair to hold of judgement on whether him becoming a permanent Burnley player is good business or not

Re: Tresor and Esteve
Tresor may turn out to be an excellent player for us. But that wouldn’t detract from the fact that for the money spent he was an atrocious signing for the situation we were in at the time. He was our ‘marquee’ signing of the summer and has barely featured, and been very poor whenever he has.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 6:42 pmStephen Ward barely made an impression in his first season when we were relegated from the Premier League and took till midway into the next season before he became a regular starter. My original point was more mocking the suggestion that it’s too early to make a judgement on Tresor, which obviously it isn’t.

Re: Tresor and Esteve
Ward was signed to help keep us in the Premier League so the summer of the relegation it would have been fair to view it as a poor signing but he ended up being worth his weight in gold. Also Tresor was not our Marque signing at all and I'd say the likes of Amdouni, Beyer, Ramsey and Berge were just as big if not biggerRileybobs wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 6:47 pmTresor may turn out to be an excellent player for us. Re: Tresor and Esteve
That's fair enough, but he's played a total of 412 minutes this season or should I say been on the pitch for a total of 412 minutes, producing 3 shots, 1 of which on target, not enough time imo to make a decision on where he's best position is. Personally I'd guess he's favoured position is an inside left position, but needs to put some effort in to have any kind of impact no matter what league we're in from what I've seen. Yes, clean slate from next season, but needs to hit the ground running, and given he's fee, needs to have an immediate impact.

Re: Tresor and Esteve
Tresor is listed as our second most expensive signing according to Transfermarkt, in the same region as Amdouni. If you don’t agree that he was the marquee signing then can we agree that he was one of our most expensive?Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 6:53 pmWard was signed to help keep us in the Premier League so the summer of the relegation it would have been fair to view it as a poor signing but he ended up being worth his weight in gold. I can’t remember how Ward played in his first season particularly, but like I said, Tresor may turn out to be a good signing in future, just like Weghorst or any other player might turn out to be a good signing in future. But he wasn’t signed for the future, he was signed to keep us in the Premier League and as things stand the transfer was a failure.
Re: Tresor and Esteve
I remember some fans acting as if he'd dropped a Zidane esque performance after he played centre mid somewhere, either away at Stoke or Leicester I think. So his first season can't have been all bad.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 7:02 pmTresor is listed as our second most expensive signing according to Transfermarkt, in the same region as Amdouni. Re: Tresor and Esteve
Stephen Ward had a perfectly fine first season with us in 2014/15. He did indeed play as a CM away at Leicester in a 2-2 draw and he was excellent. He also had an outstanding game away at Stoke in a 2-1 win when many posters rated him as a 10/10 on the ratings thread. Unfortunately he picked up an injury in the early December that ruled him out for a months afterwards.
Whoever made the comparison with Mike Tresor is seriously misguided.

Re: Tresor and Esteve
We offered 9m for Tella and paid 16m for Tresor ? … I would be questioning this with VK as it seemed madness at the time and now seems a complete waste of money

Re: Tresor and Esteve
Tresor is nothing like Tella. He doesn’t have the energy or press or mentality. Robbie Blake is a similarity that springs to mind. Not got the physicality for a winger in the modern game but real natural ability that we will have to accommodate. I’d like to see that happen because the bits I’ve seen have promise…

Re: Tresor and Esteve
My recollection of the situation was that Dyche signed an excellent Irish international left back, but stubbornly insisted on continuing to play Ben Mee out of position at full back, where he produced virtually nothing going forward.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 6:42 pmStephen Ward barely made an impression in his first season when we were relegated from the Premier League and took till midway into the next season before he became a regular starter. It was only when Mee reverted to the CB role that we saw the best of him and Stephen Ward got his chance.
(I'm not generally a big critic of Dyche by the way, but it took him a long time in this instance to realise that square pegs are best in square holes.)

Re: Tresor and Esteve
There’s between 15 and 18 million reasons why expectations were much higher for Tresor to have an impact in his first season than Stephen Ward.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 6:42 pmStephen Ward barely made an impression in his first season when we were relegated from the Premier League and took till midway into the next season before he became a regular starter.
