2014/15 - 30 points, nearly enough to survive and enough growth shown during the season that given another crack at it we could do it. Spent a pittance and invested most of the the PL money into our wonderful training facilities down at Gawthorpe.
2024/25 - 24 points, nowhere near enough to survive and bar a nice upturn in results after 28 games in we finish the season not really knowing if there has actually been any growth at all.
Spent a bunch on what appears to be a lot of fairweather, average players and really left the fans just thinking, 'meh'...
A pivotal summer ahead.
Oh but at least we've got a naff comp in America to look forward to - driving the club forward, apparently.

JJ Watt came up with a couple of nice baseball cap designs, so swings and roundabouts.

Dyche 2014/15 season felt like he’d recruited a team to win the championship in 2015/16, just needed Gray and Barton adding the following season. The group were then better equipped to stay in the PL.
This season has seen farcical recruitment and team selections and you could say we go down weaker than we went up. Can’t keep having closed seasons with big squad overhauls. It doesn’t feel right at the moment. In Dyche we trusted, cannot say the same for VK at all. Hopefully he’s given his database an upgrade and we have a better summer in terms of recruitment. He needs to build a team that won’t need an overhaul if we do get back into the “promised land” at the first attempt.

Re: Dyche 2014/15 vs Kompany 23/24
SD inherited some good players and did a great job but in his last 2-3 seasons the Board starved him of funds to carry on his good work
Like all managers he made some poor signings and was hopeless with loan signings
VK inherited a fire sale and moulded together a very good championship side with excellent loan signings
Then apparently spent £100 million on largely poor signings and produced a worst team at the level we were playing of any season
A fraction of that given to SD in preseason of 21-22- would we have gone down?

Hard to compare given the Prem is a lot stronger now given unprecedented levels of spending in recent years.
Just glad we stuck with both managers and hopefully we reap the rewards this time like we did the last.

if you think the Premier League is the same beast as it was in 2014/15 then I suggest you watch a different sport.

There's absolutely no comparison. Dyche did everything right; signed players in positions we needed, brought in proper PL experience, learnt how to be a PL manager on the job and put out a competitive team.

It is remarkable we’ve managed to get six points fewer than 14/15.
I agree the PL is a different place nowadays but it is still a pathetic inditement of this season.
Just think how bad some of the players were signed were 10 years ago - Sordell, Jutkiewicz, etc - and we still managed more points!

I agree it's gone up in levels but so have we and everyone else.
As an example we've got Belgium internationals in this team who don't even make the squad. That's a long way from when we just had a few Welsh/scottish/Irish players on our books.

More of a reflection of Belgium I think, their golden generation is largely long gone.

Big fan of Sean Dyche but that just shows that all managers spend money on players that don't end up performing.hetheclaret wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 7:22 pmJust think how bad some of the players were signed were 10 years ago - Sordell, Jutkiewicz, etc - and we still managed more points!

True although I agree with other posters that we prioritised infrastructure and non player spending that summer - and it shows how awful this season was, in that we got less points that a year where we actively focused on other things.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2024 7:31 pmBig fan of Sean Dyche but that just shows that all managers spend money on players that don't end up performing.
Re: Dyche 2014/15 vs Kompany 23/24
But would our current side have done any better playing against teams from the 14/15 season?

Bloody nora you're right!
For some reason I had in my head that it was 30.
So we're 3 wins short of that, 9 years on... Damn.

Regardless of what kompany goes on to do with Burnley, I don’t think any seasons in the prem will top 17/18.
From being 3-0 in the first game of the season away at champions Chelsea to defours free kick at old Trafford. Dyche doesn’t get anywhere near enough credit for the actual football we played that season to, it wasn’t just ‘long ball’ as we got labelled with

Re: Dyche 2014/15 vs Kompany 23/24
In 14/15 we were a Championship club that had managed two cracks at the PL and were relegated both times.
Today we're club that's spent 7 of the last 8 years in the PL, and in theory been one of the fortunate beneficiaries of the massive increase in revenue that PL membership brings.
The fact that this team is, officially, the poorest performing PL Burnley team is a damning indictment.
The season has been a disaster.

This is a poor, clueless team, managed by a fantasy football manager.
SD knew what he was doing.

Re: Dyche 2014/15 vs Kompany 23/24
The issue is, that team that won the Championship, never got a chance in the PL because we made wholesale changes. I would have loved to have seen that team, with one or two additions, play in the PL.
For whatever reason, the powers that be felt that that team was not capable of completing in the PL and brought in a whole new set of players, who, as this season has shown, were certainly not capable of competing in the PL.
That's the source of most of the frustration on here.
I still support VK and sincerely hope that lessons from last Summer have been learnt and we put together a team that is not only capable of winning the Championship, but also being competitive in the PL the next season.
