Well, i'm not stupid enough to not see that a kid thats played at lots of levels for England, been at top clubs, played lots of his games for his age, and called up to full international level isn't going to be dross.
just stick to shouting "just hoooof it"

Re: Trafford expected to be in provisional England squad for Euros
He's 21, has played 27 times in the Premier League, won a trophy with the U21's (and starred doing so), had a great spell in League One and is now in the full England squad for a major tournament.
It's fair to say he has struggled with us, I put that on Kompany's decision to play him non-stop more than Trafford himself, but his value will surely have grown now above the (reported) £14m we paid City for him. We cannot carry two keepers of the level of Muric and Trafford in the Championship and we clearly need to bring money in so this will help make that decision for us I think. We might end up making a decent profit here.

i'm sure someone would take him at 20m now

If this can generate a sale of 20m with a sell on or whatever, and enables us to keep Muric for at least another season then it's a "no hard feelings" from me and we keep pushing forward

Or you could sell Muric for as big of a profit as he’ll ever generate this summer and let Trafford have a great season next year and be looking at £30m+
We should commit to the business model. You can make money on Muric now, you can potentially make a lot of money on Trafford in a season or twos time.

Henderson strongly being rumoured to be included if it's come down to a choice between Trafford and Pope and Southgate chooses Trafford then we may as well not bother going

Either way works and it's about time we saw this player turnover profit strategy start churning
Re: Trafford expected to be in provisional England squad for Euros
This is just the long list and contains four keepers. It's not expected that Trafford will make the final cut (three keepers) for the Euros squad so far as I can see.

Re: Trafford expected to be in provisional England squad for Euros
So far while we’ve mentioned it publicly there’s no evidence we’re committed to it at all.
If we knew Benson and Zaroury weren’t going to feature heavily we should have been touting them to top Championship sides last summer when their value was high. Now we’ve let them stagnate for a season, hopefully we involve them next year.

Should support his transfer fee this summer. If he can make the full squad we might even have the chance of making a small profit!
Re: Trafford expected to be in provisional England squad for Euros
I said exactly the same to Boden on twitter a few months back pal. If they're not playing then get them flogged before their value deprecates.

That depends how deep ALKs pockets are and their risk appetite. Given they're not using much of their own money I would imagine it's quite high.deanothedino wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 12:12 pmOr just commit to developing him to realise a bigger profit. The potential is much larger than Muric.
Selling him this summer means we'll have to borrow less which is another plus given how much we've borrowed against the last couple of years.
If Trafford has an average season next year and we don't come back up then he's probably worth half of what we paid at best.

You’d have to think it was envisaged we may be relegated when we signed him, so you’d like to think they’d planned to have to see through some period of realising potential.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 12:24 pmThat depends how deep ALKs pockets are and their risk appetite. Muric would probably sell for as much as he ever will this summer. He's proven himself as a capable shot stopper in the PL who is prone to lapses of concentration, with distribution that can be either sensational or abysmal like it was at Spurs.

Re: Trafford expected to be in provisional England squad for Euros
Agreed re Muric which is why I can see both leaving this summer. Us activating the option on BPF strengthens this idea as he would presumably stick around as number 2, leaving us only need to recruit one keeper.deanothedino wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 12:27 pmYou’d have to think it was envisaged we may be relegated when we signed him, so you’d like to think they’d planned to have to see through some period of realising potential.

We've got 36 players on the most recent squad list (after Cork, JBG and the loanees have been taken out). It wouldn't surprise me if half of those left this summer, either through their choice or ours.

Talk about failing upwards.

I've always said there's a good keeper in there, it was to much to soon with us,he should have been brought through gradually with a settled solid defence in front of him.

Excellent news for James, and for us, I would personally avoid selling him for now as his value is only going up as long as he plays for us and isn’t on the bench. Happy that he does next season, it was too much too soon this.

For the record, I am pleased that Trafford will get to spend valuable time with good goalkeepers and top level coaches. It can only serve to develop him as a goalkeeper.
When it was announced earlier today that he had been included in the preliminary squad, it was probably inevitable that people like you would jump all over it and try and use it as a stick to beat anyone who has criticised Trafford in the past with.
It wasn’t his fault that Kompany plunged him in at the deep end. Then, when even a blind man on a galloping horse could see the lad was struggling, Kompany kept starting him to the astonishment/frustration of many of us on this board you excepted because you are an expert.
Trafford may come good, however none of us know for sure. I hope he does. I’m not an expert like you, that’s for sure and I accept he wouldn’t have played for England under 21’s if he hadn’t got something about him.
Personally I think he could do with better coaches around him in order to develop. More importantly though I think he needs some mental/confidence coaching to toughen him up and have the ability to command his area. If he can develop this side of his game he could indeed turn out to be a top keeper.
Re: Trafford expected to be in provisional England squad for Euros
I’ve taken it for what it is. It’s a call up to the provisional England squad. Furthermore, it should be a good experience for him and hopefully it benefits Burnley Football Club.
Oh dear, I perhaps didn’t respond in a way you wanted me to? Never mind, you will probably think of another cheap shot soon.

Just on the England squad in general, we're really short on defenders aren't we. Has anyone seen much of Bayern this season? I've only seen them against Arsenal and Madrid and Eric Dier was better in those games than any of the lads Southgate has picked other than Stones and Walker. It could well be that he's been toss apart from that, but I can't believe Lewis Dunk would have performed better.

Maybe our best bet would be to move Rice to centre half and bring in Wharton in the holding role who is a fantastic player. With Mainoo as backup.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 2:12 pmJust on the England squad in general, we're really short on defenders aren't we. Has anyone seen much of Bayern this season? Alternatively play Branthwaite at cb with Stones but I doubt Southgate will ever play a Dyche trained centre back regularly
